In this video, I take you guys with me through my experience with the Ride Like A Pro Class that I participated in on November 22, 2020, from my preparations for the trip, to my thoughts of the class and everything in between. You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
What does PRELOAD mean?
PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

Practice Sessions
Practice sessions are held on a weekly basis (Saturday or Sunday) in Pooler, GA. These sessions are free of charge to subscribers (Preloaders) to my channel only. All riders MUST complete a “HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT” form and submit it via email prior to participating in a practice session. Notification of upcoming practice sessions are emailed 5-7 days prior to a practice session. If you would like to be added to the email notification list, send an email to paying_it_forward_rs@aol.com and include your name, that you’re a subscriber and that you would like your email address added to the group email notification list.

When I went to Motor school, we used short sections of fire hose ( split lengthwise) wrapped around the engine and saddle bag guards (2 layers) and secured it with metal pipe clamps. Your local firehouse usually has a couple feet of old fire hose laying around they can give you. Fire hose is canvas-covered rubber hose, and is very abrasion resistant. Always worked for us. Just an option to try…

30 years ago, we used to use pool noodles for protecting our bikes when practicing low speed maneuvers. Still works! lol

Great video. When you said you were going to Florida I thought you meant you were riding your bike down. I love to see people who instruct on UA-cam come together and support one another. Robert, you are doing your own thing, making your own contribution. You can franchise your own teachings, or just keep doing it for fun and enlightenment. I have Jerry’s videos and they are great, but I’ve learned a lot from watching the way you teach as well. Once you have to teach someone else’s way, your students, to a substantial degree, will lose the originality you have to offer. I’ve been in education since 1988 and have developed programs in various fields. Yes, you can always learn new things, but you are already a master of these skills. Now you can take your own time and come up with new ideas to get your vision across. We need both you and Jerry teaching these techniques and skills to the motorcycle community. It’s all about safety.

It is hard to believe in a 20 or 30 year career, we can reduce the time we spent in our profession down to one 15' X 10' wall of pictures, plaques, certificates and medals. The time sure did go by fast and man, was it fun! God speed my brother in blue.

That's why I always told my Cops, Sergeants & fellow Lieutenants to take as many pictures as possible, because once it's over, you want to have memories. And the perfect unit to get the best pictures was the Highway Patrol!

I had the confidence, and knowledge to ride it due to the 3 motor officer techniques taught by Jerry Palladino. Their classes are so much fun! Every time I see cones.....I want to weave through them.

Motor officers are the best riders in the world. I've watched Jerry's video's and even purchased a few of his CD's. He's an awesome teacher that I've learned a lot from. I always loved it when I had to travel for my job (which was VERY often) and they'd give us fistfuls of money for food and lodging. We'd stay in rooms like that, or we'd rent an apartment for a month. Comfort is nice to have when on the road.
Glad to hear your time with Jerry went well! Jerry's videos (I purchased them years ago) were the precursor to me being able to excel in my slow speed skills from the git-go, and the MSF course was merely a technicality for my license. I did, of course, learn some great things in the MSF course, but the foundation laid in Jerry's videos allowed me to easily grasp and execute what was taught in the class. I'm sure I mentioned that in another video already.
As an aside, I totally spaced out that you are in Georgia. LOL I was wondering how you did a trip from NY to FL in five hours. I'm in northeastern Tennessee, so I'm probably not too far from you. If I get the opportunity, I'd love to come down and ride with you. My friend who recently moved to Tennessee a few miles from me is also a motorcycle instructor. I bet he'd love it as well.

I like the pipe warmer idea for crash bar protection!! I've been cringing at the idea of spending $$ on leather or plastic covers that are likely to get scratched up. I've been practicing but want to push a little harder, so it's only a matter of time before Vinnie drops. Watched from beginning to end. Good stuff.

Yeah as I stated in the video, I wasn’t looking for a gig. I just wanted to help other riders out that wanted the help. I noticed a lot of riders didn’t even know they needed the help because not knowing how to properly control a motorcycle at slow speeds is the norm. Having these skills makes riders safer and if not having to worry about paying is a good incentive to get people to practice, I’m all for that!👍🏾😊

I first found Ride Like A Pro and Jerry Paladino on UA-cam ands thought it looked pretty cool. Sadly I had already left Florida and was back in Virginia. I then learned that Dave Russell in Waldorf Maryland had a franchise and ended up taking his course first. I then went back and took it again and helped Dave teach the class. We became great friends to this day and even met up a few times for so Motor Rodeo's. I later learned Jerry was going to be in Tenn. I think and me and my brother rode our bikes down there to take his class, I really wanted to meet him. Anyway, from those few classes I ended up a Motor Cycle Rodeo junkie and tried to enter any competition I could find. This is a great and wonderful past time learning to better ones skills as a motor cycle rider and I encourage everyone to really learn the skills you see here.

Your a good man Robert, great video. Nice digs, that look like one of the long stay places we used to use on recurrent airline training. And one long stay places we used to stay on Waikiki Beach on line trips. I'm sure your wife would approve. Now that I'm putting down my rice rocket to pick up a 950 lb bike empty weight. I hope I can keep up my skills.. I'm going to take Jerry's course since I am here close. An if I was in Georgia I take your course, whether franchised or yours. I can always alternate between both, for an annual recurrent heavy weight bike training. All of us pilots Air Force or Airline always need recurrent training, always. Same, same here. It's a little bit old school compared to the one you were staying on your way to Florida. But still nice you're overlooking to Darussi Park in Waikiki Beach, get the beachside room and the highest floor you could get them to give you. If you're retired military could go over to the military hotel Hola KOA Coco's the best breakfast buffets on Waikiki Beach. The nightlife ain't too bad either. You could go to tiki bar at night whether you're retired military or not. At least I seen it before. Every Friday or Saturday fireworks.

Awesome video Robert, it reminds me of motor school all over again. I have a love/hate relationship with cones still but, I'm determined to improve my skill set beyond motor school. Like you, I enjoy the challenges that cone exercises present so, with that being said, I ordered/installed some parts on my Ultra to assist me with that endeavor. I purchased the parts come from "The SoftBrake Company," 1. reduced reached clutch/brake levers and an extended brake lever. The levers bring your reach in an inch and the brake pedal down closer to the floorboard for a more natural feel. Can't wait to see your video with Wood Jr., I know it's going to be FIRE!!!

Cool video! Couple things to mention. It looked like you tied the bike down via the cash er bag guards . I learned from watching my local HD dealer load bikes in trailer.
They used a condor wheel chock . Tied down the forks and used the rear passenger pegs/ board bracket. You are a great rider on that course . Took Jerry’s course in March .. I still need more practice. . Keep up your videos

You are obviously very self-assured, as you explained that J.P. told you, how to make your U-Turn tighter, and you accepted his idea to slow down a little, and in fact tightened your already excellent U-Turn to an even shorter diameter. I have been watching your videos for about two weeks now and this video earned my sub. You practice what you preach. Thank you for your service, not just your Motor cop service ( no disrespect intended it is just how I talk) but also your continued service to your community. I am too far from any of Jerry's franchise locations to feasibly attend but I did buy his course and some cones. Thank you for this content, it is sorely needed. I am just now stepping into a GL1500 GoldWing and I need to learn to ride all over again. Oregon has no CC size restrictions which imo they should have. My starter was an S50 Boulevard(805cc V-Twin) and it is simply not the same class as this GoldWing, to me it is scary in the ridiculous sense. that we can take a 5 ish hour course and then jump on any size scooter with out more training.

Great videos, I found you by accident as far as the rider training. You did a review on a headlight LOL, which was an awesome comparison. But I saw you using your techniques and spoke of it. I then looked at your video pages and started with the first one. And upon working my way out from there, I have bounced around a little but what an inspiring channel you put together. I was already watching some of Jerry’s videos at about the same time. But wow, I didn't realize this was all going to take me on this learning adventure. Intervention and a blessing at the same time. I have been riding Harleys since 1987 (mostly old cobbled up choppers back then) I have been on FLHT since 2004. I have 3 bikes currently (91 Springer -1 in 500 paint, 06 Softail with BIG S&S Engine in it.) Current main ride is 2021 Limited I got in Oct at Biketoberfest. Prior was 2010 Limited traded in at 135000 miles. Before that I had 2005 EG Standard (110000 miles) that I made a SG before there was SG models lol and the first FLHT was a 91 Ultra (89000) that was my first touring I got in 2004. The ride I had at that moment in time was a monster long Custom Chop complete opposite of the touring bikes. I can say I have ridden in snow, rain, hail etc. And of course, SUN. I have ridden hard highway miles for days (PA to Daytona PA to Sturgis) In town riding. I ride everyday now being in Fla. I was former PA now in Daytona Beach area is where we live. I was a fair rider in the slow area. The preload and keep loaded technique I had never knew. I just had a natural balance and good luck. In the past few weeks, I have gained so much knowledge in such a small area that is monumental in nature it is hard to describe. Thank you so much for what you do and all you share. Blessings are not always found because you seek it out, sometimes they just are. Thank you again!

She had a auto accident that left her with neck surgery and she doesn’t operate as much any more but does ride as a passenger still. Just this past week I motored through a scenario that I would have had her get off and what not(it is off road lol) And I said let me try something and the whole time she was like… whoa whoa whoa lol but didn’t move an inch and I went through an interesting scenario. And all because of the preload… keep it loaded technique.
We are not to far from Pooler, Ga. Maybe sometime this year I will see if I can work in my schedule and show off my 3 out of ten skills lol.

I had to laugh at 9:42 "When I stop to get something to eat I will go in there and check it again" LOL Never forget the 1st time I trailered my bike. I was way way more worried about my bike in that trailer then I was ever just riding it anywhere! Totally get it, high stress thoughts, so funny!
