Robert is telling you guys the right way. Since finding the channel ( I've been riding for 23+ years) and practicing the exercises he teaches, I can stick my bike anywhere I need to. U turns are now on demand. If you ride with regular people all the time, try suggesting a practice with several of y'all and try out some of these techniques. When you pull up with 10 bikes and everyone puts their bikes together in a straight line and dismount at the same time, people can't help but watch in awe.

I'm seventy four years old, and I've been riding since my early teens.
I had to sell my 2017 HD street glide, because of health problems, and weakness.
I thought that my days on two wheels had come to an end.
I went as far as buying a three wheeler.
Well it didn't take long to figure out that three wheels doesn't feel the same as two!
I've found a two wheeler that I can handle, in the Indian Scout Rogue.
I put money down on it, and around six months later it arrived.
Your videos are really helping this old man get back on two wheels.
    Thanks

Great Job...We done this in school, Only different is the first rider would stay forward and the other riders will go behind. We stay on the bike until the final rider is in place and we back at the same time. Then dismount together.I taught this in a course and we pulled it off (Only once) on a lunch group ride.

“Combat parking” - very apt description of always being ready to include the way you park your vehicles. Folks laugh at me for that approach. Trained that way so it’s tough to do any thing else. Always great tips Robert and blessings to you and yours. 🤜🏼

I found your channel after a 28 year hiatus from riding. I also just got my motorcycle endorsement again. Your channel has given me so many great tips and training advice. So, as I work my way back into slow speed maneuvers - your instruction is simply amazing and I find myself repeating your words as I practice. Thank you.

Good work again Robert! I just want to say thank you as I am 64 and overseas with the military (I teach) and I have been following your channel for about a year. I have worked my way through your course and am a much better and more confident rider as a result, and I first rode in the 1970's. No one was teaching any of this stuff back then, and now, if you can't do a u-turn in 18-20', it's not because the information isn't available to learn from.

Damn.. am I the only guy that discovered your channel.. and now I’m binging every single episode?? Great content, Lieutenant. I just retired myself. 30 years of Law Enforcement. My last 9 years as Lt.. Those last years in brass almost killed me (mentally). Not gonna lie, I miss working the street. I miss helping people. I miss being an advocate for victims. But I don’t miss that Lt. job. 😩
Been riding since I was 16. I noticed that my skills eroded after being off the bike for 18 months. I been practicing all these slow speed skills. Thanks again, brotha . My confidence on my Road King has gone through the roof in the last couple days. Feels good to be the boss of my bike .

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle . Yes I am sir. I know I ride an electric bike. Built almost like a chopper.
I'm the boss of my bike. I just wish the oncoming traffic would let me make my left hand turns without any problem.
But no. I have to go to the corner, and make my turn. A right hand turn is no problem.
I'm in my own lane. Out of everyone's way. I obey all traffic laws. I ride with traffic. I wear a helmet on my head. Goggles on my eyes. A reflector vest at night. And my headlight and tail light on.
Sometimes they let me make my turn. And sometimes no. I guess they expect me to do the same as all the traffic law breakers, and do the same thing as them.
Well I'm not going to. I follow the rules of the road. I use my hand signals for right, left, and stop.
But I guess they don't know that anymore. But maybe. Just maybe. Once I get my direction turn signals installed.
Hopefully that will change everything. At least I hope so. Maybe I should wear a sign, that says. I follow all traffic laws. Let me make my left hand turn.
Don't hit me. And don't honk me. I have a horn too. I can honk back.
Ride safe sir. I'll do the same. Carry on.

my favorite way to park my bike is at a truck stop right up against an idling truck while the driver's asleep. i know no one will mess with my bike that way. a couple of my bike's have gotten run over that way but i still believe in the practice. on a serious note isnt it just easier if you have two spots open just to pull in to spot one ,u turn into spot two? then you only have to back up about 8 inches.

I’ve recently found this channel and have started incorporating these practices into my normal riding. It’s been super helpful at building a bit of confidence for someone who can’t flatfoot my bike. Now I need to take it the next level and start practicing in the evenings with cones in an empty parking lot.

Be careful if you follow the curb line in wet parking lots. I downed my ZX14r in a mist covered parking lot because the space I chose to turn and park in had an unseen hazard waiting for me: diesel fuel. A vehicle with a fuel leak used that space just prior to the light rain that was falling as I pulled in. Halfway through my turn at approximately 2-3mph the front tire instantly washed out. I held it up but the combination of a turned front wheel and residual momentum started to strain my left knee excessively so I let it down as easy as possible. End result: Knee - GTG; Ninja - $1500.00 worth of scraped fairings, mirror, lever, grip and pipe.

I’m a teacher/musician living in China and recently bought a newer bike (‘19 Suzuki GW250). It’s tiny compared what you ride but for me at 5’6 and 150lbs it’s fairly heavy and not the smallest bike. I found your channel and have been practicing with your voice in my head - while I’m in the middle of a u-turn I can hear you yelling “keep the rpm’s up! , stay in the friction zone!, rear brake!” and it always works! I’m going to make an audio recording for my practice sessions and take it with me. Soon my Chinese friends will be learning to be the bosses of their motorcycles too. I’m thankful for people like you and I’m going to pay it forward here.
Be safe and continually blessed. 🙏🏼

Just a couple items I would like to comment on. The demo shows the m/c way into the space. He mentioned to park near the front the space, only lightly. One wants to make the m/c visible to vehicles driving down the lane. In the State of California, ( not sure about other states) when parking on the street The rear wheel or fender needs to touch the curb. This law is heavily enforced in the beach cities. So if you're coming to California keep that in mind. If you have skirted fenders, or low saddlebags, might want to think about parking somewhere else .

Great info! I’d be curious to see how you handle some other situations - like parking in the left aisle of a busy parking lot (I usually avoid this if possible), or in a parallel parking spot on a busy road. I always worry that cars behind me get confused when I turn left to back into a parallel spot on a street, or my nose will often be a little in the lane if I were to back straight in - especially if I stop early enough to not scrape my pipes on the tall curbs in LA (I also ride a Street Glide)

I’ve been riding for 20+ years. Much of it on smaller displacement bikes and I developed some bad habits as well as some techniques not conducive to successively handling a large Harley Davidson bagger. But I would be better at parking a semi than my bike. I had scheduled to work with a local instructor when I purchased my big bagger, and he passed away from COVID. Then our Harley Dealership permanently closed. I felt like Karma had targeted me and won. Then I remembered how accomplished my best friend and husband is as a rider. I didn’t want to share my struggles, but I’ve got to use what I have to succeed. Thanks for your content, because I know nothing I learn is wasted.

Good video Rob. I always park my motorcycle that way. As you know I have a similar background in that I learned to ride a motorcycle being trained from the ground up in PD motor school as an officer. On or off duty riding your personal bike that's the best way to park a bike. For the civilian rider, (police too) visibility is of the utmost importance. You can see much more pulling out of a parking spot parked like this than you can duck-walking the bike backward into oncoming traffic out of the spot. I don't do a lot of group rides but in the few, I have done on my personal bike, I always find this is a skill that is largely lacking. A lot of people will pull in a spot "head first" and they'll look at me like "what are you doing?". You ride how you've been trained and just as important, how you PRACTICE or lack thereof so folks, get out there and practice! He just gave you the training objectives. Ride Safe!.

Regardless of whether I'm riding in a group or alone, in a packed parking lot or an empty one, I never park up against the curb. However, I've seen motorcycle clubs pull into a parking lot riding in single file as well as staggered and cruise in just like you did parallel to the curb, but instead of turning, they just stop perpendicular to the painted lines sometimes three or four abreast in each parking spot. Sometimes they do this out of necessity if a parking lot is full, but I've also seen it done as a courtesy which goes a LONG way to presenting a more conscientious and socially acceptable view of motorcycle clubs. Too often bikers and motorcycle clubs come off as owning the road, and nothing says, "Screw you!" like a bunch of bikers taking one spot per bike and making the four wheelers walk a marathon. Something to think about...

    • @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle
      @BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle  Рік тому +1

This would actually be 2 motorcycles per spot.

    • @shnarklevonbarkle110
      @shnarklevonbarkle110 Рік тому +1

@@BeTheBossOfYourMotorcycle When the parking lot is packed already, there's really no other option other than parking perpendicular to the lines if you have a large club. If there's a bike in each spot and one on every line that doubles the capacity, but parking perpendicular easily quadruples the capacity. It also displays a sublime level of courtesy and common sense.
A prime example of its efficiency is in noting the difference between an on-track start verses a Le Mans style start. In the former, we see the pack take off practically as a solid mass while the starts that begin with the bikes parked off to the side is a confused mess often accompanied by collisions. I can see how practicing improves the likelihood of something more ordered and coordinated, but for those clubs that are in the habit of having a few snorts at the bar before hitting their next stop, it might not make that much difference.
I prefer the look because it reminds me of those tight formations flown by the Blue Angels. Then again, for those who like to admire shiny custom motorcycles it makes it difficult to gain access to those bikes in the middle of the pack.
If two clubs show up at the bar simultaneously, the club that parked perpendicular will be downing their first drinks and getting their appetizers delivered while the other one is still parking.
