I am from Denmark and this video was fun to watch. The buildings look like very old countryside style, from around the mid century. Some of the things they sell in the shops are dutch and german, not danish, and we do not have osterich in Denmark, only in the zoo. But still a fun place, maybe i will check it out one day. They should have smørrebrød too. Nothing is more danish than good smørrebrød.
@@michellemoffett9458 haha..you are absolutely correct 😄 Solvang seem like a interesting place, i would like to see it. But it's not as danish as they make it seem.
I’ve driven through the area many times. The ostrich farm is actually outside the city of Solvang. Closer to the city of Buellton. If you’re in the area, also check out the city of Lo Olivos and the Chumash casino.
My favorite place in California! Thank you you did a great job on this video. I stayed here two days/nights and it was so wonderful. Did a lot of window shopping smorgasbord's, danishes, took pics. I stayed at the Royal Copenhagen Inn and it was so charming! My favorite place also was the Christmas shop which was right across the way from the hotel I stayed at. I didn't visit the ostriches I didn't know they were there at the time.
Just a few minutes towards Santa ynez is a lovely Italian restaurant called Leonardo's. Sitting in a strip mall, it's quality atmosphere and menu came as a big shock once we started eating. Great wine and cocktails we've had a few great experiences there so far.
Some noteworthy restaurants there today are: First and Oak - a Michelin guide restaurant as with seasonal menus. Upscale but not snooty, so no need to dress too nice. Mad & Vin - amazing restaurant with reasonable prices, seasonal and casual in the Vinland hotel Peasants Feast - creative farm to table dishes in a super chill atmosphere. Limited indoor dining. Good Seed coffee roasters is also a fantastic coffee shop with lots of traditional and modern creative drinks.
Hope you enjoy! We're up near San Luis Obispo but go every summer for the last few years. God dang those ostriches pull hard on those feeders! 🤣 Great video
I stayed here a few years back, and while I was there I took a drive to a town that was about 30 minutes away: it was one of the most beautiful sceneries I have ever seen.
We are actually going there this week. Was going last Saturday but something came up. We go there to walk our dog and eat pastries and drink beer and munch on sausages. On the way back to LA pass by Santa Barbara for a nice dinner date with your partner and dog🥰… just don’t go during summer, it’s hot as hell….
Yay! I used to work at Cailloux Cheese Shop. I miss seeing all the tourists come in every day from all over the world. Solvang is definatley it's own experience. A great place to visit. I recommend visiting Los Olivos too next time if you come back to the area.
Thank you for coming to our little village, please come back and enjoy the vineyards and neighboring towns. The best way to do that would be on a bike or a e bike in my opinion.
My husband and I spent a too-brief honeymoon weekend in Solvang. We bought a little cuckoo clock that unfortunately was destroyed by a playful young cat after being on our wall for almost 30 years.
Wow! It Brings back so many memories when went some years ago! Beautiful Danish city😊 oh those danish pastries and chocolate fudge looks so good and amazing💕really enjoyed your video my friend👍👍👍😍
FYI- Solvang is much more than the "Downtown/Disneyland type Mainstreet"- There are many vineyards and estate wineries between Solvang and the next town over, Los Olivos...
A note from a local to the area the ostrich farm is actually not in Solvang it's technically right next door to the city of Beulton. In that it's over a mile outside of Solvang and sits adjacent to Beulton.
Thanks for watching! The availability of vegan options depends on the restaurant/bakery, suggest checking menus online before you go to avoid surprises
Thanks for the tips Micheal! I’m going again this weekend and definitely keeping your recommendations in mind. The first time I went, I didn’t do research so didn’t what places or what to try haha.
I mean as a Dane checking in then yeah, Solvang definitely gets some things right and in others feel more like a mis matched parody of Denmark as well as the Netherlands. Especially with the souvenirs and like the clocks and dresses. Like we had like some dresses for like festivities and traditions but there's like only 1 island where they're still a regular tradition and even then those in the storefront there are again like a parody of such with how over the top it is. But the pastries and snacks do look really good, although the Æbleskiver you tried are only sold and eaten around Christmas back in Denmark. Seriously I have never wondered why the American settlers decided to serve them year round. And I mean you can definitely tell some stuff is represensative of Denmark... but kind of a Denmark that doesn't exist anymore, like one from 130 years ago with like the souvenir dresses and the signage and what not. But the food especially is on point and overall it probably is one of the better places for Danish representation in the US I guess. Especially on the west coast... until an Ole & Steen opens in LA that is lol.
@@travelingtippsI would love to visit Solvang sometime in the near future.....btw I think it'll feel more autentic experience if the residents of Solvang could speak danish with the Danes tourists 😀
Solvang has its charming, inviting aspects. There are, however, too many cars! If only they would convert the main street into a pedestrian zone. That would be European!

Solvang is more like a caricature of a Danish city. It's the equivalent of another country making a mini american city, and then just building old buildings from the cowboy era and having someone dressed as a cowboy and go "yeeeeeeeehaw" and then thinking "yeah, this is a taste of america, no need to go visit the U.S since i've been here". Hell i'd almost call this city a parody if anything else. I remember how we saw a video of this city in our class and everyone was making fun of it because of how off the mark they are at representing Denmark. The only thing that seems to have withstood the test of time are the bakeries. They seem to sell the same stuff that we have here in ours. But things like the clocks, clothes and the porcelain stuff? Yeah no, you won't find that in a Danish house. Also, æbleskiver is only served around Christmas. It'd be like saying Americans eat pumpkin pie everyday, all year round.
