I have the 48 Voice version. And with it I got all the analog synthesis I need in my setup. It's a great synth. Even when it's so deep and advanced, it's an easy synth to learn and program analog synthesis on.
WHOA!! Now that's what I call an opening! Seriously cool way to introduce a synthesizer - by actually synthesizing, and testing the instrument's potential.
Nice. I owned a Supernova 2 rack for awhile. Can't remember what silliness caused me to sell it, but I'll get another at some point. Really nice sounding, and a great interface. Not quite as flexible as the Q, though.
One of the best Supernova II demos on the web! This and your other SN2 demo are partly what inspired me to buy one myself, and make my own demos. :) Keep up the great work, hope you're doing well... long live the SN2!
"Ultranova blows in comparison to the Virus TI" I've had an Ultranova for a year and a Virus TI2 for a month and a half. I am obsessed with sound design. The filters and oscillators on the Virus are awesome. For tweakability its Ultranova hands down. Virus - 5 parameters per envelop Ultranova - 16 Virus - 3 filter routings that define the number of poles on your filters. Ultranova - 6 filter routings, 18 independent filter type/slopes per filter. Virus - 6 mod matrix slots with 3 destinations each Ultranova - 20 mod slots with two multiplied sources each. So... if you want to use your mod wheel to bring in the LFO moding the phaser frequency or whatever in the Virus you need two of the six routings. One for the LFO and one to modify the amount of the LFO. Ultranova - you can do it with one of the 20 slots. I love them both. They are very different. I think their capabilities and shortcomings complement each other.
Nothing sounds like a nova/supernova. It's got a very authentic sound. I found the virus TI sounding exactly like a plug-in synth. For some reason I liked the Virus C more. Anyway, the supernova is really amazing.
correction: uses 'Doublesaw' wave to use two saws in one osc - up to 6 saws per voice before unison. Unison lets you stack ocs's further if you want. Up to 8 voices per note.
I would agree with that, I used to have a lot of the old novation stuff (KS rack, B Station, D Station, A station and Nova) and allthough they sound lush and very smooth they are deff not analogue, I think they have their own character that compliments other stnths rather well, on the market now for a SN2 as well as I sold all my old gear
Biggest differences vs Supernova 1 & 2 is the FM. Opens it up immensely - FM brings in the spacy organs, elec. pianos, harps, DX7-type keys, mallets and all sorts of bizzare madness that only FM can do. It's a whole diffrenet spec from 'virtual analog'. Also the SN2 has extra goodies like dual filters(LP+LP,LP+BP,LP+HP,notch,BR,BP+BP,BP+HP,HP+HP) combfilter, 'supersaw' (saves poly using just one osc to simulate up to 8 detuned saws). More FX, i think the vocoder is on SN2 only. try Google.
Sounds fantastic man. Fair play. Bought one a few months ago and only really starting to find the time to mess with it. How long dod it take you to really get your head around the architecture?
right, it's no longer made. the racks are far more common in the USA than the keyboard, so good luck finding one. they show up on E-bay once in a while, though.
Thanks for the hifi demos. This thing sounds much better than I thought it would. Cops the Rolandish sounds nicely. How do you think the newer stuff like Xiosynth compares soundwise?
Nice synth! I'm looking for one myself. Have you had any keyboard lessons or are you sequencing through a computer? I'm thinking of getting one myself but can't play the keyboard so I'm thinking the rack version would be nice? How many voices on yours and do you mind me asking where you picked it up?
Pretty cool :) Laser Harp sound is not perfect, but that's a serious basis for that sound. If I remember, the original patch (Elka Synthex "Ring Mod" patch) also uses ring mod on Osc2 (only).
MAn i cant get enough of this vid great demonstration. the reason im asking if the supernova II is the same as the pro or its a different board because theres one on ebay which im looking at...Its a supernova II thats the top of the line for this series correct? let me know so i can bid im looking for the most recent supernova series ........thnx im just confused when i read pro vs supernova II.. npo more texts man lol promise. all i can say is post some more vids bra . stay easy culture
Yeah I realise as I'm reading it back that I came across as yet another virus fanboi and that's not my intention. Completely agree that the *sound* is down to personal preference. What I should have said is that I prefer the Virus for it's ease/depth of programming, multi-timbrality, effects (the Ultranova can get a bit noisy when using certain effects in certain combinations I find), etc. to make it clear I wasn't talking about the sound. Heck - I have softsynths I prefer sonically to both :)
Question: are you able to play non-step programmed arpeggios? That is, can you play a 3-note chord, then a 4-note chord and have the arpeggiator follow what you are doing? Cheers. And thanks - -- great video and cool sounds.
i just need to get this sttr8 is this a midi board with some internal sounds are a str8 up digital synth. I already havce the X station 49 key wondering if there is a big difference. Can you tell me after watching this kick ass vid of some of the sick shit u can do on this puppy that my xstation wouldnt be able to do ? Your answer will convince me on getting one.WAITING on YOUR comment. THNX again its a synth right all sounds are internal ? Stay easy Culture
i see you responded between the I and II version what is with the pro version ? sorry never seen or heard of this board. AGAIN is this II version same as the pro? thnx man sorry to spam here just need to know before i make the purchase. again stay easy culture
okay let me see if i got this, the "SN2" is no longer in production?.does Numark make any "SN2'S"? if so in what capacity, keyboard or rackmount?.and Thanks for the intel.
Shaftman dude! what's the story on this supernova-2? i went to novations site they don't have it listed as a product, just OS upgrades. is this thing new? old or what.how much does it cost. gimme sum intel.
Question: how much can you do with velocity or aftertouch? Suppose you were playing a bassline with your left hand on another keyboard ... can you use aftertouch to do many of the things you're doing with the mod wheel in the video?
My mate bought a K-Station some years ago which I've used. It sounded like it should have cost a lot more than the £275 he paid for it. I'd never used any VA until then - I mean, the Nord stuff was too pricey and the JP-8000 just didn't turn me on. Couldn't believe how good the K-S sounded, considering I laughed when I first saw it. The smarmy smile vanished though, as soon as I got my hands on it. Showed me - still use it now...
my studio is the Tascam dm 4800,Motu 828mk3Roland G7, MS2000B,Xstation 49, MV-8800Padkontrol, dj setup DJM-800 with 2 pionners 1000 EFX.. I got to get this board can u tell me if theres a difference between the Supernova II and the pro or is it the same board ? hows the sounds quality on the board and where besides ebay if anyonen knows i can find one !! thnx again for the vid im sold ! now to get one .... stay easy culture
i sold mine years ago...i think i might have made that from scratch so maybe it's not a preset. try modulating osc1 pulse with an EG while it is Synced, and also use the high-pass filter. maybe mix in another pulsewave an octave down; it's been a while since I've done it.
(continuing reply to XY2theGG): ....however veterans looking for a replacement for their old analog poly are probably not going to be convinced. while it CAN do most of the sounds of the old 'fat bastards', it does NOT behave like a VCO synth - It's digital through and through, but the filter can be overdriven so this goes a long way... but the raw oscillator sound is unmistakeably digital as are the fx. great phaser/chorus though - i have a Juno6 and it cops that sound very closely.
I have all 3 synths you mention.. Trust me - the Ultranova blows in comparison to the Virus TI. The Ultranova and Supernova sound different enough from one another, and both can produce some interesting sounds. I wouldn't give up my Virus for anything though.
Shut yo mouth Shaft!. are u tellin me the manufacturers have "Finally" built something worthy of being placed next to my mighty "Modulars?. tell me about this supernova, and how much did it set cha back.and how do U Really feel about?.

Super keyboards like this really make it easy for anyone to "sound" like they know what they're doing:)
Just picked up an ultra... Loving it so far
The Master of all Demo's. Well done. You know your stuff friend. You make that synth Rock, Pure synth bliss. Thanks for posting. LOL .

excellent demo-help me learn new stuff about the 2 pro X i just bought.
thanks. :-)
the phaser sounds pretty cool ...

thanks for stopping by, drooley :-)
this is 100% Supernova2. No sequencing externally. i took some piano lessons as a wee lad.
i have the 36-voice, got it on Ebay a few years ago.
Sounds fantastic man. Fair play. Bought one a few months ago and only really starting to find the time to mess with it. How long dod it take you to really get your head around the architecture?

the arp can be programmed per step like a sequencer. there is no PCM/ROM; all drums come from the synth engine.
good demo

Thanx! the new novation under numark is pointless then as
far as sound is concerned?

Hi matey, what preset is the laser harp on, i have the supernova 2 but cant find the laser harp
thanks
hey i forgot to ask what is the difference between the supernova and supernova II i assume theres gotta be some etras. whats your choice?
thnx again .
yeah its digital I know. but you program it the same way as an analog synth. Imagine how it would be as analog lol.

Looking to sell mine in Australia
a few are presets, but the majority are my personal patches.

my pleasure, sizzle
When I am listening to this sounds I am starting to realize what a ridiculous, kids oriented toy is Ultranova compared to this really great synth...
okay, so I paused it in the beginning and it told me "welcome to a demons"... okay.
