That would be what common sense would say, but a speaker can't put forward a motion to the house. It's not as easy as just a "show of hands", there's a lot of constitutional restrictions at play there. EDIT: It is, however, the constitutional duty for both Speakers to decide whether or not a foreign dignitary can adress Parliament. So he's done nothing but fulfill his role constitutionally.
My mom used to say to and of my father, that if you cut ff his hands he could not speak! My mom had a Jewish grandmother, but was a raving Christian scientist, and my father was a gentle, principled man whose grandfather came from Germany and had no Jewish ancestry as far as I know. I love expressive people, hands and all. Maybe my spirit is Jewish! Or maybe you have a limited idea of the wonderful variation of humanities ways of communicating ?
John is the embodiment of pomposity brought about, it is thought, by certain inadequacies and the need to compensate for the vertically challenged condition he has had to bear. In a way this has contributed to his evident deep level of insecurity that size has had on him and his almost ghastly and unpleasant use of the English language which resonates with no one except himself. It was a cruel blow to John's self-esteem to have been denied a peerage which would have made complete and crowned that journey of his towards the maximum in ostentatiousness. It is hoped that Johnson reviews the honours list, sees sense and puts an end to the conservative dislike of John and to bestow upon him that honour which he has strived for throughout his life and one which he so richly deserves. Nobody, however conceited, short or otherwise, should have been treated in the way the conservatives have treated Bercow
While I miss him as speaker in the House of Commons, has anyone noticed that PMQs has become much more disciplined and less boisterous with the new speaker? It may be because of the new members after the election and/or Brexit finally being decided but I miss the political chaos.

@@daanmollema6366 It was deemed unlawful by the supreme court that created a new paragraph to the existing statute. Bercow assisted in the process to make that possible. So promoted by self interest to see his personal opinion justified. A 1st for the supreme court to make the law, as opposed to adjudicate in the interpretation. It backfired into an 80 seat majority for the Tory's. Hmmm!
All that shows is that A) As dictated by COMMON SENSE, proroguing parliamant for Tory political gains is immoral and unlawful, as the Supreme Court ruled and B) That the British people are sick of all this nonsense and just want Brexit to happen already which is understandable, but a different discussion.

1:12:01 This is so well said.... This causes so many problems down the line if people arent given support and understanding. Great point well made.

If you were confident you were speaking for a majority in the case of Trump, why not put it up for a vote and let the houses decide?

Sure it is, he’s capable of making the decision then he’s capable of asking the house for a show of hands if those in favor.
