I'm not sure why this cartoon really goes with the song. Maybe it's the edginess and the dire looking situations, and how we still move forward despite how grim things may look. First heard TD when I saw The Keep back in the 80's, and just started listening to it seriously in the past year. Truly remarkable and innovative.
Yes credit to the group. I believe they worked for 3 weeks burning the midnight oil to do this,it launched them in hollywood, and the rest is history!!!
I own this song, but I watch this video about once a week. The music and cartoon amazingly mesh together so well. TD sounds can make anything look good!
Fab, it’s just perfect. Haven't heard that track for yonks, got it on vinyl, got to dig it out! I mailed the link to my daughter half was through viewing and said ‘wait for the spinach’! Thanks to whoever put it up, best 10 mins viewing for a long time!
@kennywowie You are correct. Before computers, one way to make cartoons was to separate the story to many different glass plates. Some were changing faster than the others.
DAE feel like this is a profound tale with Popeye as the Responsible Everyman and Olive Oyl as The Oppressed and the villain as The Opressors and the guy videotaping the duck as The Media?
I'm sure I've commented on this, but man, whenever I need a lift up, this makes my day, always been a fan of Edgar's rip since the early 70s but yours makes it the pièce de résistance, I'm sure he loved it Bravo. Ben PS what’s the day job
this is beautiful, it sounds almost like music from the N64 game Glover, check out its soundtrack if you like Tangerine Dream, I think you will like it a lot. Especially the Atlantis songs.
WHAT THE HELL; some how... this works... how... what is this black magic? Things are actually queuing up to the music! maybe I just need more coffee :S
But it DOES kinda go together. Certain parts where the music changes direction it matches the change of events in the Popeye. Case in point, beginning when birdflies, 0:50, 1:21, 5:33 are just a few,,,,good job!
people help me out please, there is a European group (i think) that also does instrumental music that is avante garde like T.D. and i used to have them in my old playlists but i forgot the name. they were named after a galaxy, something like M31 or similar does anyne know who they are? thanks.
+fenderaxe Hm, TD resurface when the new face of Germany wanted to move away from schlager and american or UK rock music. Could be that you can find this artist under "Krautrock". Was it maybe "Cluster"? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Krautrock_musical_groups
thecardinalx I was wondering the same thing. It seems like the other versions do not have the guitar, and I wonder if this was remixed by someone else or TD themself.
I restarted playing my old music again
I completely forgot about Tangerine Dream till now
the memories were fantastic
the guitar solo at 6:53 is just MAGNIFICENT
I love this genre of music in that it helps me in relaxation of mind and body. Truly otherworldly!
yes,i agree Heywood :)

Great wake & bake material. Thanks.
Pure art. Both the music and the animation.
Wow! What a sound arrangement! Just got goose bumps over and over....fantastic track!
Well, this is going in my "When You're Tripping" playlist
high five to that. good call!
Complimentary music to top animation.its the stuff good dreams are made of.
this is in better synch than Wizard Of Oz and Dark Side Of The Moon!
dat reference.
Yes credit to the group. I believe they worked for 3 weeks burning the midnight oil to do this,it launched them in hollywood, and the rest is history!!!
first heard them in the movie three o clock high, been a fan ever since!
Listening to the music and watching the video makes me feel like I'm high....
grew upwith this music just makes it better
0:49, 2:15 That's pretty damn good animation right there.
I own this song, but I watch this video about once a week. The music and cartoon amazingly mesh together so well. TD sounds can make anything look good!
Thank you for uploading this music. Outstanding Music!

amazing track
That background is like classical painting stills.
@kennywowie You are correct. Before computers, one way to make cartoons was to separate the story to many different glass plates. Some were changing faster than the others.
That freaking duck steal the sandwich!
Despite the simply-looking childish animation on characters, Popeye has a great developement on backgrounds.
Beautiful!
Great video and music.
this is from "Mars Polaris" album 1999 - one of their greatest recent albums
Cool to use a Fleischer "Popeye" cartoon with this music. The Brothers' animation was definitely out there, like this music!
una incredibile storia d'amore..
@kennywowie Look for "traditional animation" in Wikipedia. The part about techniques tells a lot of the old way of animation making..
lol if you're drunk the video and the music sync perfectly...
This is cool, cause I can lesson to TD and my kid can watch Popeye.
Sorry it took me ten years but this is a great comment.
@Islanderview
I don't know how it is you made something so awesome and don't know why you did it. This is a hell of a video.
that is some incredible animation!! just saying.
Holy shit, just discovering this group now, wow! so good!
Well this is uplifting.
Excellent JOB!!!
5 STARS!!!
Still got this episode of Popeye on VHS somewhere. :p
enjoyed it.....
Popeye started the whole PED fascination.
who needs steroids when there's spinach! that is a weird-ass word....spinach.
To lull the other guy into a false sense of security, so he can be caught off guard.
Si hermano y con mucho esfuerzo y dedicación lo hacían. Saludos.
forgot how totally awesome Popeye the cartoon was
There is the best 10 minutes of my life!
TANGERINE DREAM - MARS POLARIS (1999) - Outland(The Colony)
T memory of past times
Congratulations. The cartoon mix well!Great job. please post more!
@Islanderview exelente!!!!!!
DAE feel like this is a profound tale with Popeye as the Responsible Everyman and Olive Oyl as The Oppressed and the villain as The Opressors and the guy videotaping the duck as The Media?
I wish I had commented back when this was like 20k views.... oh well!
sounds like underworld.
It does !
Popeye is a freaking Timex. This is genius.
I'm afraid I have to agree with you. What was I thinking??
Funny how much violence is in this cartoon and no thought anything about it back then. Today it would get an "R" rating.
I'm sure I've commented on this, but man, whenever I need a lift up, this makes my day, always been a fan of Edgar's rip since the early 70s but yours makes it the pièce de résistance, I'm sure he loved it Bravo. Ben PS what’s the day job
It was so epic!
Really good song.
those 4 went to sleep and woke up now they make 8
i've download this track in my ipod.
lol, videotaping the duck? That thing he is winding is an old fashion meat grinder. He is trying to turn the duck into sausage.
I just love the old popeye cartoon
popeye is so ridiculous hahahahhaha
EVE online should have most of tracks from TD..
this is beautiful, it sounds almost like music from the N64 game Glover, check out its soundtrack if you like Tangerine Dream, I think you will like it a lot. Especially the Atlantis songs.
@florinovich
Actually, this is the version on Rocking Mars. I do prefer the album version, however. :)
THE WERRY BEST!!!
ahh just look at those gams! sigh
holy shit
Megaman MUSIC!!!
0:00 to 10:06 is my favorite part :D
POpeye
Why doesn't he just eat the spinach BEFORE the fight?
Because he might not need it
1:33 best part
Score one for the little guy.
WHAT THE HELL; some how... this works... how... what is this black magic?
Things are actually queuing up to the music!
maybe I just need more coffee :S
the BIG THUMBS UP, the TD of old much better, though.
But it DOES kinda go together. Certain parts where the music changes direction it matches the change of events in the Popeye. Case in point, beginning when birdflies, 0:50, 1:21, 5:33 are just a few,,,,good job!

Nie ma komentarzy po polsku, co jest?
oh well, this is surrealistic: Popeye with TD music...
how DID they get that 3D effect with the scenery? Multiple plates being moved in front of the camera? It has always baffled me.
I have an another version of this song on my Mars Polaris (without guitar). Where is this from?
thecardinalx I was wondering the same thing. It seems like the other versions do not have the guitar, and I wonder if this was remixed by someone else or TD themself.
@Islanderview ja ja ja what was that my friend
This song and video makes popeye seem like such a badass. He seemed cheesy till I saw this.
Olha só o velho Popeye tomando seu espinafre para salvar a Olivia das garras do Butus. .
UG UG UG UG !!!!
fantastic, but full dislosure, i am pissed
@Islanderview i think you were thinking of popeye..
is that popeye? wow I've actually never seen the cartoon.
first I was like D: but then I was like :D
Why other versions of this song don't have the distorted guitar solo and other stuff??
Am i not understanding something?
@ciscotie es cierto
@fenderaxe
M83 I believe
@Islanderview who cares? its a great music upload. i dont watch the vids anyway. good job!
Ese video quéeeeeeeee hahaha

@fenderaxe
M83? Not really instrumental though...

I like this. who says everything has to be 'synced'?
He didn't want to use performance enhancing drugs......... (Before the fight)
