    Tangerine Dream has always had it's "eras", with great musicians that made the group evolve.
    This is a new era, and from what I can hear, Tangerine Dream is in good hands.

      I totally agree with your comment Tim, the band are in fine form. I hope to get a chance one day to see them if they visit the UK. I saw the Phaedra tour in Guildford UK back in the 70's and many more times since.

      @@davef4163 were you able to see them in March of 2022? From what I understand, that’s one of the places they recorded “The Sessions Box Set” that I got when I saw them in the United States in September of 2023, and is in my opinion, one of the best things they’ve put out in decades!

      Totally! To quote (notice the pun): "The band is better now than they've been in Ages". I agree, there's nothing wrong with any of TD's material, but this is most certainly better! (also, there's nothing wrong with Ages, and sarcasm is hard to identify when written down).

    Contrary to impressions this is made AFTER Edgar Froese's death: Details "... is a completely improvised track of almost 30 minutes running time that Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane recorded in the studio of Dieter Dierks, the very same studio where 45 years ago three young men who called themselves Tangerine Dream recorded the albums Alpha Centauri (1971), Zeit (1972) and Atem (1973)."I can hear some Edgar Froese themes from his solo work in this, otherwise it is a worthy successor to his work.

      Been a listener of TD for many years. They inspired me to play and I was able to put together some tunes but not at their level of course. Now eleven years, 8 heart attacks and several seizures later I can only enjoy what I once put together, with the inspiration from above. My memory can't recall the software function of Logic Pro any longer. (Short term memory loss sucks) I'm 72 also and thankful to still be around and enjoy TD. Take it easy.

      I saw them in concert in 1984 (I think) in London. It was right at the end of the analog synth era and each of them had what looked like a 15ft tall stack of patchbays, thousands of cables everywhere. I was probably (almost certainly) stoned so I don't remember any individual piece of music...just the lights going down, silence and then a low bass note building up in the darkness until it was so big that my molecules were vibrating. Like many here I've been a TD fan since I first heard them and I really love that 'TD' is not the people in the band but something that deserves to be kept alive by new players and custodians of the sound and feel of this music.

      I think especially Thorsten has a very good sense of that sound (and is an excellent musician anyway...).
      It was a very strange moment for me to realise last year when arriving at the planetarium in Bochum that those three young people standing at the door and having a chat where TD and that this band which I admired ever since I started consciously listening to music was younger now than myself, LOL. Quite a metamorphosis, but they are doing great!

      I agree he did. And - especially looking at his work with Picture Palace Music on the one hand, and TDs output before Thorsten entered the band (...was it some 10 years ago already?) one can see that he actually brought a load of talent, sensitivity and musical skills with him already.

    It has some interesting segments, but it goes on too long in the same "loops", not really doing much sonically. It's almost like listening to bits and pieces from their soundtracks, like Wavelength, Near Dark, FireStarter, etc. and a bit from Tangram, but I want more from their Dolphin Dance (Underwater Sunlight), Optical Race, and similar albums. Obviously, not just duplicate the original material, but use some of those styles... loved the releases Paul Haslinger was a part of!
    It's nice to see Tangerine Dream "back", but I hope they mix up their soundscapes a bit more. Just none of that nauseous "space noise", like their early stuff (Electronic Meditation) and that era.

    @owenmcgee8496 7 років тому +1

    This actually sounds pretty poor to me: the improvisations aren't good, possibly because Schnauss isn't an improviser or much of a live performer: his albums revolve around beats and "shoegaze" mixing. The bass sequence on this sounds like that on Mota Atma, except it is tweaked quite a fair bit, and were it not for the use early on of the flute sound that Baumann once used I don't think this would remind anyone of the band's 70s output. At about 17.30 a synth sound appears akin to that used during the Logos era, but again nothing interesting is done with it. If Froese's music had some vision, I don't think this does...

    • @PROPHETVberlinschule
      @PROPHETVberlinschule  7 років тому +6

      I don't know what the criteria is for these new 'improvs', except that Edgar apparently asked that they should form part of Quantum Years TD😊
