Kinda sucks Dark Knight for shafted in Endwalker when it has this level of competition. The much cooler cousin, Reaper, all DRK mains might as well reroll.

@@EmarCeeHW For sure theres room for both, but the problem is they didnt put enough work into DRK changes this expansion, which feels bad as DRK mains. Tons of unfixed problems, Blood Weapon duration, Living Dead being not good, No AoE Carve and Spit, 60 second Carve and Spit while other tanks all have 30 second OGCD. I really like the class, but they got neglected. So maybe they will get some changes before release.

I just have to say that I love the fact that the background lore for Reaper is basically “Old MacGarlean got tired of having monsters eat his livestock so he struck a deal with Eldritch Abominations and went to town on the monsters himself”

I really love seeing the connection with Reaper's beginnings in farming as well! Even if the actions look stylish and edgy, stuff like "Harvest Moon" and "Soul Sow" remind you that you just gotta mow hay

My guess is that reaper's headgear is similar to blackmage since they deal with voidsent. Blackmages covered their eyes with an eyepatch and big hat to avoid eye contact with voidsent when hunting them.
It's got a hat but instead of an eyepatch, it has a ninja mask since it's an assassin

My only criticsm, which I suppose is a pretty good "only" criticsm to have, is that the icons are really bad. The colors are super washed out, giving me a much dreaded Red Mage feel.

Does anyone else get old school dark knight feel from this? This reminds me of the old days when DRK was a massive damage dealing monster at the cost of hp. And could use scythes.

Really excited to see if we get any unusually shaped scythes for glamour purposes. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetics and gameplay of the reaper, but I'm not crazy about the scythe as a weapon, so I would love to a more subtle glam for it.

Reaper is DEFINITELY really cool, but I wonder what it's Job Quests are going to be like if we even get them in Endwalker. It'd be funny if Edda was our Reaper teacher and the storyline is her trying to possess our body permanently after somehow becoming a daemon.
Sage and Reaper will have job quests for their first 10 levels.
I doubt Edda will be our mentor as her story is completely done. It's finished after F100 of PotD.

Possibly also Zenos' former teacher.
The website says Reaper is from Garlemald. So the teacher is definitely going to be a Garlean.

Only been playing a few weeks but I main a samurai. Wasn't going to buy this new expac till I got closer too it MSQ wise but def gunna main this when it comes out

As a DRK main, I was upset with the lack of changes that they recieved. It's still fun, but I'm jealous of every other class in the game.
On the other hand though, I like the fact that we basically have a DRK dps now. I'm just torn on which one to play. They both tickle my edge lord itch.
As a Tank main i doubt i will ever fully drop my boy DRK but oh many if RPR has not got me delighted at the idea of giving DPS another shot. Gotta love big weapons where designs can get to go wild later on

First of all, and to get it out already before getting into the meaty part of my comment, the Reaper looks cool as all shit. The change in posture when entering in the enshrouded stance, the moves, the particle effects, the change in its dress when going all grim reaper. All of that? Very, very cool.
Now, as a main dragoon... either I'm missing something, or its rotation seems a bit slow. I mean, you need 50 blue bar to enter into grim reaper mode, and you generate 10 bb with the blue soul reaper attacks, and to use a single soul reaper attack you need 50 red bar, and for that you need to either spend a charge of a 30 seconds per charge skills, or use 5 weaponskills. So, at the start of any given fight you need around 40-45 secs to enter into enshrouded, and after that, it gets a bit slower as you don't have the two charges of the skill that gives +2 soul reaper stacks.
The closest melee dps, dragoon, needs two hi jumps to get into Live of the Dragon mode, the equivalent of the Enshrouded mode. That's 30 seconds because you start any fight with a hi jump ready, and in the next 30 seconds you can use it again. Then you get to use hi jump once again inside LotD, and in the next 30 seconds you get again hi jump ready, so you'll enter, again, LotD in 30 secs.
Now, 10-15 seconds doesn't seem that much, but the Dragoon is already one of, if not the slowest dps, so the Reaper being even slower...
As I said, I may be missing something, and those numbers aren't necesarily what we'll get. Or the tooltips may have typos and the enhanced soul reaper attacks also grant blue bar, that would fix the slowness I'm talking about. It wouldn't be the first time that happens.
Edit: Okay, I'm dumb, I missed Plentiful Harvest. Yeah, that would fix it.
The gauge mechanics are reminiscent of Dual Blades from Monster Hunter
