@@SushiBurritoPapi Well some languages are more foreign than others. The phrase “it’s Greek to me” doesn’t come from nowhere… whereas we basically use both the Latin alphabet and versions of most Latin terms.
I'll give you an example - the word "eukrasia" means absolutely nothing to 100% of English speakers unless you're familiar with Greek medical texts. On the other hand, its Latin equivalent is the word "temperament" as in, e.g. someone having a nervous temperament. From the Latin word and not the Greek you get the sense that the word refers to one's physical condition and how "in balance" they are, eukrasia meaning that they have an eu- "good" + krasia "mixture" (referring to the four humours), basically a good mixture, i.e. in balance. Hopefully people will get used to it but you have to admit, the Greek isn't always as easy to understand.

When you started talking about putting shields on people that stand in the fire on purpose to get more DPS, my first immediate thought was "so Sage is going to be best friends with Black Mages then?"
One small distinction to make about the healing boosting spells: Physis seems to boost all incoming healing _magic_ by 10%, while Krasis seems to increase all types of healing from any action by 20%. So Physis won't boost a melee DPS self-healing, but Krasis will. I think.
Also great to hear that Sage will be on the more complex side, since I'm starting to get a handle on Astrologian as my first healer and that already feels like a lot to balance (cards, seals, regens, healing, DoTs, dealing damage yourself), but I'm enjoying it.

Sage looks complex and loaded with most of the thing Scholar has minus the anti-synergies (looking at Dissipation that locks out the fairy abilities).
And on top of all the stuff Sage has, it also looks like mana will never be an issue as many of the jobs skills restore mana as well (which makes me wonder why White Mage's Thin Air skill got nerfed so hard and not left unchanged).
Overall, as a newer healer player I'm really looking forward to going through the story to get to the point unlock Sage.

Coming from a healing point of view, it doesn't look as complex as some people are thinking of. Some thoughts: Toxicon doesn't appear to be doing more damage than Dosis, outside of the aoe component which is minor, nor does it look to heal more. But it is instant, which looks to be the main reward, where you get an instant cast. Useful, but not something that will get people intentionally fishing for procs. Only a nice reward for having to cast a heal.
Likewise the Kardia bit is set it on a tank (with min/maxing at some point possibly to cycle through some dps) where if you cast a dps spell you also get to do healing. So a regen effect, more than anything. Nice to target compared to the fairy, but again, nothing major. A newbie healer can set and forget on one of the tanks and be fine. Note that all the effects are the same heal, and only on cast.
Eukrasia is like Aspected heals from ast. Press button to add shields to your heal, plus being instant. And to upgrade the dot. Neat.
Addersgall abilities look almost identical in function to a scholar's Aetherflow abilities, which isn't terrible. More MP generation, no excog, but effectively able to keep the succor buff up longer for tanks. Not bad.
The big thing that I like is the addition of Phlegma and Pneuma to break up the dps rotation. Add in some random utility and that's the class. I imagine when people get more time to play around with it it'll start looking a lot less complex, because it really is very similar to other current healers and people seem to have learned those just fine.

I'd like to share a bit of my own thoughts on SGE as someone who's been largely a healer main since 2.0. (Until DNC stole my heart that is). I'll just be going over the more interesting points of their actions.
Kardia: A great, new way to maintain sustained healing on the tank in most circumstances. What I'm really interested in seeing is how shuffling your Kardia targets in harder content will allow us to further optimize our healing rather than just leave it on the tank and forget it.
Eukrasia: A great tool for mitigating hotbar bloat moving forward. That said, as it stands it will largely just be used for DoT management. One thing about healing is that healers rely on OGCD healing first, GCD healing second. As with SCH during ShB, GCD barrier healing is fairly rare and often times completely unused in casual content. It's only more challenging fights where barrier management becomes a more important resource, particularly during prog. I'm interested to see if there are more tools that will become linked to Eukrasia in future expansions. Off the top of my head, I'd like to see a Eukrasia version for Dyskrasia (AoE) and Toxikon potentially.
Phelgma: If you're not a healer main, you don't understand the pure bliss I feel seeing another DPS button for healers. Being on a 45 second recast means it's ultimately not going to have a huge impact on the DPS button spam situation, but it's a great start. I just hope SGE's popularity encourages us to step a little more into the DPS realm in the future.
Adder's Gall Healing: Seems to be a hybrid of SCH's Aetherflow and WHM's Lilies which is fine. The actions here are almost 1-to-1 replicas of SCH's Aetheflow heals with the exception of the MP restoration on the heals rather than on the Aetherflow button. I worry a little if we might run into a similar situation the SCH has where we might not need the healing and thus sit on 3 Adder's Gall without being able to spend them at times, since we aren't getting a way to dump a stack, but we'll have to see whether or not that'll be true.
Zoe: I see this and I worry deeply for SCH. With Zoe, you can cast a double-potency Eukrasia Prognosis that can still crit heal for a MASSIVE barrier potentially on the party. This seems like far more than SCH can hope to apply and while this is incredibly niche, having a gargantuan barrier on the party like that could be a game-changer for Savage prog, but we'll just have to wait and see.
Haima/Panhaima: These are some of my favorite actions in the entire game. What a cool way to introduce sustained barriers for a healer. It's not going to eat the entirety of an attack, but it gives you a way to soften the blow of several attacks in a row. As you mentioned, if we start seeing more situations where bosses pump out several instances of raid damage back-to-back, it will be great. Even outside of that, though, the added healing afterward for unused stacks means there's quite a bit of forgiveness on it too.
Pneuma: Yet another incredibly awesome action. What's so perfect about this is how it's DPS neutral with Dosis, meaning we neither gain nor lose DPS for using it (outside of AoE but that doesn't matter as much). This means our DPS isn't punished for using it, and we can save it for when the healing is needed rather than using it on CD like how Assize is used. It's going to feel great to use this.
Adder's Sting/Toxikon: So much of SGE is looking really solid, but this is the one area that is DRASTICALLY undertuned. SGE is basically stealing DRK's The Blackest Night mechanic which is a fantastic thing. It means that theoretically, using barriers correctly can reward you with DPS neutrality, but this is NOT the case for Toxikon and it's actually very severe. Toxikon is the same potency as Dosis III (330) yet requires twice as many GCDs as it, meaning it's a 50% DPS loss. Against single targets, this means when you're forced to move, using Eukrasia Diagnosis > Toxikon is the same DPS as just straight up losing a GCD. You are better off overwriting a Eukrasia Dosis III at 15 seconds or less in times where you need to move. Sure if you have no other options, you may as well, but Toxikon is basically not actually netting you any advantages for using it.
Even in AoE scenarios, Toxikon is actually a loss to even use outside of spending pre-pull Stings. Dyskrasia II's potency on all enemies is 170 where Toxikon's is 330 with a 50% fall off, this means 330 potency for the first target hit and 165 potency for all remaining enemies. Remember that it takes 2 casts to perform this. So Toxikon is actually doing less damage against multiple enemies than 2 Dyskrasia IIs, and it actually gets worse and worse the more enemies there are since you're losing 5 potency for every extra enemy hit.
What I'm ultimately trying to get at is, NEVER use Eukrasia Diagnosis with the intent of gaining Stings because it's not worth it outside of pre-pull. Your OGCD heals are vastly superior, and you should only rely on Eukrasia Diagnosis for when you truly need it specifically, either because you're out of OGCDs, or because you're in prog and are worried about a tankbuster. I sincerely hope that either Toxikon's potency is buffed to 660, or it's turned into an OGCD action by launch to resolve this issue. Either of those changes would completely resolve the problem.
All-in-all, with the exception of Toxikon, SGE is looking like a solid step forward for healer design. I think it's still an extremely safe take on a DPS-focused healer and they could stand to push the envelope further in the future. I just hope the reception they get for SGE showcases that and influences healers for the future.

0:33 For me the big difference between a shield/barrier healer and a pure healer is how people play them. With a "pure" healer you DPS until the tank gets low then you take a break, heal up the tank and go back to DPS'ing.
With a barrier healer IMO it's the opposite. You front load the tank with shields and "proc" style heals THEN you start to DPS. Once the shield's and barrier's break, you top off the tank as they start taking damage then reapply the shields (while their HP is still relatively high), then go back to DPS'ing.
When I'm not running my scholar and I run with someone who struggles with their scholar the thing I see is they try to play their scholar like WHM. Wait until the tank is at low health THEN try to heal them up and a shield healer doesn't work that way. As you guys play Sage keep that in mind.

I play a fair amount of SCH and ya that is pretty much it. Shield the tank up at the start and start DPSing until you have to renew everything. SCH works great when you know the fights and get proactive.

As always this reminds me of the tank that told me I healed too much because he was still at full health after a wall-to-wall trash pull. ...I was on SCH and had cast maybe 3 shields during the fight, and my fairy kept him topped while I spammed Art of War.

no? It's quite opposite actually, at least for me... Whm and diurnal ast can actually have tank always top with regens, single target ogcd shields, some strong healing like star or assize. It's pretty rare for regen healer to have tanks on low hp and it's mostly "everything is bad so I will spam my cure2/benefic2". For shield healers (sage is kinda copy of sch) - they have a good bunch of mitigation and strong abilities so they dont care much about tanks hp. Yes, you can spam adlo and keep tank high, but why if you can let you mitigate works? Soil is amazingly strong ability, same with excog (10% mitigate on target for sage), seraph/haima and tether/soteria, you can easily ignore tanks hp while he is not low and then up him with lustrate and keep damage.

    • @qaztim11
      @qaztim11 2 роки тому

@@SapphireDragon357 The fairy skills get memed on regularly for obvious reasons but the fairy tether paired with an excogitation, fae ilumination and an emergency tacttics shield tanks so much damage that you barely even have to heal.
SCH is a very powerfull class when you know a fight very well and can use all of your tools

Toxikon II is a dps loss most of the time unless you use it for mobility, then its DPS neutral at best. It requires SGE to use a GCD to apply the shield and then use Toxikon II. That's worse than two Dosis.
It's essentially a mini-blood lily. With the exception that the "shield being absorbed" can be sabotaged by the Tank using mitigation, Darkest Knight, another healer putting on a shield or your own shield applying a critical effect. A combination of these things might make you miss the Addersting needed to use Toxikon II when needed to move.
In all, its a very clumsily designed ability.

Toxicon isn't a dps increase over your single-target spell. It's actually a loss since you lose a GCD to cast the shield unless you're doing it during times you can't hit the boss, and you know that damage will eat the shield. Toxicon isn't going to be used much since single-target shields aren't that necessary most of the time.
