For the love of Sns, just an additional tip for any that haven't figured this out. About that clutch claw uppercut from the roll; if you connect and fully latch on just enough to jump off immediatly, you will have connected a half weaken. Another upper cut and you will get the full tenderization without having to use the attack animation. For furious rajang you can easily land 2 uppercuts and jump offs without being grabbed off while still triggering rajangs anti claw animation. Another tip for me, is that sprinting to the right distance to roll from is faster than walking unsheathed, so, quickly guard then roll and claw. So you can sprint into position and unsheath asap to allow the move. Happy hunting.
I’m not sure if anyone has ever pointed this out but when you land the mount with SnS the finisher is a three hit combo that actually requires you to hit the button three times to complete it. If you only hit it twice though and wait a second your character won’t finish the combo and then when you push the button again it resets the combo. Meaning you can perform the first two hits over and over. One of the benefits of this is that the monster doesn’t move or attack when you’re performing the mount finisher so it allows you to do more damage but in multiplayer everyone else can also attack the monster freely. It also just so happens that the first two attacks in the combo are with the shield so I believe it’s impact damage so it’s good for hitting heads to build the KO early. I use this method in multiplayer to build up a lot of damage and then complete the finisher before the boss takes too much damage and falls over on its own. It also lets my friends build up damage or charges so when it does finally fall over they are ready with all their big attacks. Highly recommend it.
In-a-nutshell: When a monster's moving: Lateral + Return + Spiral slashes and loop, don't do thrust or roundslash unless you are certained that you can land it. When a monster's down: Perfect Rush Perfect Rush.
Legiana, teostra, lunastra and deviljho are my favorite layered SnS. The guard for SnS is mostly used to turn a fatal blow into a near fatal blow. I usually forget that blocking is a option is SnS XD. Great video.
I just started using SnS and I have watched so many videos on how to use it, at this point I am just watching them to watch them since I know most of the tricks. I found this video by far the most easy to understand and helpful for learning the weapon tho I gotta say. It's crazy you don't have more Subs - the vids are so helpful and straightforward. You earned my Sub brother!
Video is still very useful in the most recent time as learning these small moves makes a big impact on your own gameplay as I just started playing and just spamming. Now applying these new skill moves I have learned and understanding the monsters movements make the game a lot more enjoyable.
Just got this game recently and I really wanted to use SNS because of the Jocat video, but i have never held a controller before, so this video is perfect! Ty!!!
As someone who stays up late working on my videos and putting in countless hours - This really means a lot!! Thank you for the comment. I hope you enjoy the master piece of a game that World is!
yes that works but if u want amour pieces with more agitator raging brachy amour gives more than nergi and u get agitator secret with removes upgrade limit and u can put 2 more agitator on 😁
Perfect rush is very easy is you use a controller. Just enable vibration and press attack when it vibrates during the rush. Helpful if you're using it on a big monster flailing around obscuring your character model
Amazing tutorial and even to this day you are doing great stuff. We few who use keyboard seem to be a rare breed hahaha. Thank you. Just picked up iceborne and after your guide I can now do the perfect rush! Oh yeah its all coming together.
I mean, if you cancel the last lunging attack for the perfect rush with a side roll you can immediately back hop out of the side roll and start a second perfect rush. For the long knockdowns there's just enough time to finish the second perfect rush which will of course launch you away from the monster as it rears up. Also do other weapons have the ability to initiate a slide with a light attack while running down a slope? Because that gives you a lot of speed very quickly, it has saved my ass a few times.
Use your flimsy shield smart. Blocking covers a large frontal angle. The attack and situation that you need to raise your shield is guaranteed to push you back. Position yourself so that the attack pushes you away from further chip attacks or tight corners eg. Nergigante dive or rajang combos
Note about frostcraft, it goes well with EVERY SnS type. Status, Element, Raw. Its fucking amazing. Also thanks for good guide Sky Sensei, I learn a bunch of SnS movesets from you early into my trail and error phase.
i shall learn the ways of sns from being a button mashing pleb who constantly relies on medicine jewels to a beast on the battle field to make rajang daddy proud
So I just started a new play through of mhw. I’ve always been a LS user and this time around I wanted to mess with something new. Messing with charge blade and figured I’d try SnS and I’m have a blast with SnS. I didn’t realize how strong this damn weapon could be. I’m KOing monsters left and right. Not use to that with LS. But damn I’m loving this weapon.
Hell yea!!! SNS is a very underrated weapon! Everyone labels it as the "beginner" weapon but it has quite a bit of complexity to it. The back step is one of the best skills to master!!
Honestly until Master Rank it doesnt matter. Just go with what you like there arent bad things in this game. want insane dps? go for dmg Abilities in Armors Like Crit eye, Agitator, Crit boost, Weakness Exploit... When reaching Master Rank. Early game has lots of Frost monsters so opting towards Frost is not your goal. When you play a slower weapon go for Paralysis when solo or Explosion for playing with friends (since the monsters Paralysis threshold gets way higher when in multiplayer).
I am once again learning from Sensei. Hi! Idk if youll ever read a comment on an old video but im playing through world/IB again and just learning new weapons. Thanks!! Maybe stream mhw for fun sometime again? Its been awhile and im just re-enjoying the story and challenge that a fresh save brings. No decos etc. If you know what I mean.
Any idea how I can figure out backstep on my keybindings? I haven’t changed any default keybindings but S doesn’t work for me for backstep, and I noticed a couple other keybindings are different too. For example mine says to aim slinger with the middle mouse button/wheel, and it utilizes a side mouse button instead of ctrl I think. I can’t figure out how to backstep
Backstep is a combination of keys! While you are guarded (for me this is ctrl) its S + Right mouse click to initiate the backstep! Its a very quick step and it'll go straight into the forward attack unless you initiate another action. :) You can also initiate a backstep during any attack but it has to be during an action. If you are standing still or just running around, backstep will not work :) Hope that helps!
did you ever figure this out? I have the same problem. edit: litterally after alt tabbing back in i figured it out. I think you have to have your s&s out and then use slinger and it should appear in the top right actions tooltip
Im a bit confused. Do you need to have iceborne for perfect rush ? I press all the same buttons like you. After backstep i automatically perform advanced slash.
@@SkySenseiVB Ok, Just got iceborn. Still unable to perform rush. But now i can see mention of that combo in the book (Hunter's notes) But sadly there is no explnation how to do backstep. I mean i can backstep from guard or after w+lmb. But if do that i will go directly in to advancing slash. Something is wrong probably. Backstep is w+rmb but if press those buttons nothing happens. Just a basic attack.
@@noeltage Once you get the back step, its a timing thing from there. You gotta tap both attack buttons (left and right mouse), not just the primary attack. The primary will start your advancing slash. You should tap it just as you are about to land after back hopping :) That will push you into a leaping slash and that's the start of your perfect rush :) If you're still having trouble, msg me on discord, we can go in game and practice :)
@@SkySenseiVB I figured this out yesterday. Nailed half decent rush. Not perfect thou but i got the idea. Implementing this combo in real fight scenario is a whole different story. Mhw is one of the most challenging games i played in recent years. Probably all because i was completely new to the series and my understanding of game mechanics was no on pair.
@@noeltage Its definitely a unique game :) Takes quite a bit of practice. The best players are ones who know the monster patterns really well - usually its those who have put a lot of hours into MHW, or they have experience from previous games. But ya once you know the monster patterns, it becomes easier to see your openings and time your attacks. I would check out The Artful Dodger. They break down monster movement pretty well :) goodluck!! and if you need some pc friends to play with, my discord has a bunch and we hunt every night during the week :)

Yes the attack deals blunt dmg so you often stun the monster during the mount finisher. Useful mid late of the hunt to score the second stun.
