there's also the fact that in korea, some trainees (particularly foreign-born) have to face contract talks alone because they can't afford legal consult and their parents live abroad. with the age/seniority dynamic in korea, the hoobae doesn't have much negotiating power with the agency, so it's almost a "sign this or walk" situation for this child who knows nothing and just has a dream. so many aspiring idols end up penniless and without prospect because things don't pan out with fame, and they have no legal leverage to move to a better situation.

This episode hits close to home.. I follow a kpop artist that's been like my favorite kpop artist ever since hearing them years and years ago.. But they've been locked into a contract with a company that hasn't let her even do a comeback in 3 years, now. And, in my opinion, she's been in her prime. I get sad about it. Should be on top of the charts, making new music, etc. I only hope she's treated well, during the 3 years of doing.. whatever they're doing with her. ☹
