I just started collecting vinyl again. I used to own some in the 80s as a teen. I had no idea that you needed to clean records like this. I always used a vinyl cleaning brush and a soft rag. All of this cleaning stuff is making me think I should just stick to CDs and streaming! 😜
Depends on how you like your sound. LP's have character, and you can modify this by means of different cartridges and styli; CD's don't, they all sound as the engineer wants to give you. Then streaming just lacks scope and depth. I have a pair of turntables and six Stylus/Cartridge combos to juggle around for Classical, Opera, Jazz and Rock. Some are warmer, some are sharper; some have mellower midrange some have drier bass or higher trebles. Some styli are better for pristine records and some are crackle and pop eaters; great for trashed pieces. LP's do not sound *better* than CD's but, oh do they sound *different!*
Depends on many factors, if I want to be lazy yeah I will stream and play a cd. But if I want real timbre and a more life like experience it is vinyl all the way.
I thought these wet clean machines were supposed to clear the record of static? If you're using a cloth to dry 'em, does that not cause static to build back up...? I'm only 50 seconds in, but thought I'd mention this. AND, I'll bet you use tap water which can introduce hard water onto your records which might cause further damage...?
Would you care to share your cleaning solution recipe? I use the same system but my solution is 3/4 distilled water, 1/4 isopropyl alcohol (or 96° pure cane alcohol) and a few ml/l of wetting agent or surfactent (I happen to use Ilford Ilfoton that I had in my old darkroom). With the Deep Groove it pulls grime like the devil takes a sinner. Records dry in the VS -DG rack in about 15 minutes, 10 if the weather is not humid.
Thanks! This is probably the best way to clean large amounts of LP's without spending thousands on record cleaning machines. Has your Vinyl Styl Machine held up?
Good method but I prefer to wash the vinyl directly in the sink with a vinyl brush and a label saver. The washing is more accurate and energic in that way imo than the washing machines (spin clean, etc...).
You can't use hard water from the tap. That's NO-NO. Gotta use distilled water to rinse it. I don't like your vinyl styl machine at all. I would rather use suction cups instead. It's much easier to hold & release when you're done.
I have soft water coming out of my kitchen faucet, so it is the perfect rinse….leaves no deposits! I also use soft water in my Keurig coffee maker and never have to clean it because it leaves no deposits. You can prove it to yourself! And as far as coffee goes, soft water provides negligible sodium, in case you were wondering. And no deposits in your body!😂.
Thanks for the video Jim. I’ve got my vinyl styl on the way. Looking forward to using it on some new and used records.
Cool gadget! I just got a vinyl vac can't wait for it to arrive

Do you boo, stick you airpods in and stream your spotify. If shitty compressed less then mp3 quality makes you happy. More power to you.
@@jorgemtrevinoI disagree cds sound dark, dead, and life less to me while records have more of a natural timbre. IMO
Great Video and very informative. I too enjoy Elton's earlier music.
Thanks for the support, much appreciated!
How about using air to blow off the record to dry? An electric air bed pump would work great

What type of cleaning solution do you use? Or what home made mix?

Your making me cringe because of the faucet protruding out so close to the record. 😵
