I would suggest the analogis WashNPlay. It has goat hair brush instead of pads which get in the grooves better and are easier to clean.

That type of cleaner does very well to clean vinyl LPs. One suggestion I would make is to slow your spinning down. Go slower and give the fluid a chance to soak into the grooves and remove the debris more thoroughly. Speed is not an advantage. On some records three rotations is not enough. The amount of dirt on the record becomes a marker of how many rotations and how quick or slow to turn the record. Not an exact science, but slower is much better.

I have the Big Fudge version and I am very satisfied with what it does for dirty records. I have a UK mono Sgt. Pepper that needed a cleaning, due to surface noise, even though it was pretty clean to begin with. The cleaner did a great job bringing that record back to life with minimal ticks & pops.
I think this is the first review of one of these that's convinced me and reading the comments too I think I'll invest in one soon. I buy a lot of second hand and I'm not up for spending hundreds of pounds that I don't have to spare but at the cost of a couple of new albums this looks like a better option than the simple wet clean by hand that I already do with some of the worst offenders. Good job 🙂
Great video Andrew. I bought this a month ago and cleaned 50 vinyls in one batch. Thought it made a massive difference with the sound quality, especially on the older 80's and 90's vinyls.
Nice review. The before-and-after comparison is the clincher. I have a lot of old shellac 78s, as well as early 10" budget LPs that never had an inner sleeve even when they were new seventy years ago, so I've developed a high tolerance for noise. The expensive ultrasonic methods would not be worth it for me.

I've cleaned probably 10,000 records with my SpinCleans and the biggest tip I can give is this. Wear gloves. Either nitrile/latex exam gloves or even just washing up gloves. Makes it so much easier to turn them in the cleaner, as well as keeping both your fingers from the records and the cleaner from your skin.

@@AndrewDixonMusic I lay a towel under my SpinCleans (yes, I use two, one with cleaner, the other with just distilled water) and bounce the record a few times to knock some water off before wiping, so some water pretty much always gets on the labels. I wipe it off immediately. That said, I've had a few labels bleed color onto the towel, most specifically SMASH labels, as they are red and uncoated, but like I said, I've cleaned 10,000+ LPs and have yet to ruin even a single label.
A couple more tips that I can give for using the SpinClean, which also might apply to your unit are fill the basin about a 1/4" higher than the fill line and a little washing up liquid on the roller spindles helps them turn so much smoother.

I have the "Big Fudge" version of the spin clean. I've owned for a few years. Pretty handy economical way of cleaning your vinyl. One thing to be aware of is if you see any dust or degree on the record after cleaning, it could likely come from your drying cloth.
I have it too! When Covid hit, I spent some time cleaning all my old records..some I thought that were ruined ! Like All Things Must Pass & Concert For Bengla Desh. I thought those records were long ruined so I bought both of them on EBay for about $60. When I cleaned mine they ended up in better condition then the ones I bought (they were very good too). Great product very affordable!
Agree about the cloth thing. It’s crucial the drying cloth is clean and dust free or else you’ll end up putting grit back in the grooves. For the money, this cleaner works great.

I am using same type for 2-3 years and I am very happy with it too
Had one years ago. The main issue I found was it leaves a serious film of dirt and cleaning fluid. When you dry them out with a fiber cloth you are grinding the dirt and fluid back into the grooves. I clean records manually and rinse the with distilled water. Works and sounds much better.
I was wondering about that. It struck me as being similiar to washing dishes in the sink -- but then putting them directly to dry without rinsing them. You could use this machine, but then rinse off with fresh distilled water after spin.cleaning (then leave to air-dry without wiping). A label protector would be a good idea too, as the record will drip over the label when stacked vertically to dry. :0)
The biggest benefit of wet cleaning records is the removal of static, that makes a huge difference to the noise floor.
A big tip, I had an almost identical device, the Knosti Disco Antistat. The drying rack is indeed identical. Be VERY careful inserting and removal your records into/from the drying rack. The white plastic tips on the rack can have sharp edges and will RUIN your vinyl if you are a careless clumsy idiot, like I was.
I upgraded eventually to a vacuum system, so my records are storage dry in seconds.

This was a really enjoyable video, Andrew! Made me fetch my similar device from the vaults. I have never tried mine before, even though it's been years since I bought it. I very rarely play vinyl records in spite of owning a few hundreds of them. Maybe your video can get me going again.
The version I have is a Knosti disco-antistat from a German company.
It has the same features as your machine, but lacks the rollers to alter between 7", 10" and 12" records. Instead it comes with a label protecting cover which you split in two. One half has a suspension shaft meant to go through the hole in the middle of the record. Thus you protect the label and you simply place the whole record inside the main casing. You suspend the record by means of the two ends of shaft onto the notches of the wash casing. (This replaces the rollers on your variant I guess.)
The remainder of the procedure is more or less similar to the one you executed. The description also stresses not to use a cloth to dry the ready washed records. They are to dry in the draining rack for at least 7 minutes.
The antistat mixture can be reused several times according to the manufactorer.

I like the idea of something covering the label, even on a machine like mine where in theory it shouldn't be needed, could be a little extra peace of mind.
Great video and review, Andrew :) 100% agree. I have this cleaning machine and i'm very happy with it. I find it especially comes in useful with second hand records that perhaps have not been played in many years and collected dust. I recently purchased some records at a yardsale that are now as good as new after using the Spincare. I feel sometimes there can be a little snobbery in the vinyl community, this machine is inexpensive, but it's definitely worth having 🎸😊
Thanks, I suppose it's like hifi in general, a small outlay can make a big improvement, and then expensive upgrades beyond that bring small incremental gains...

Going to change the card inner sleeves to poly lined for starters as I've noticed card inner sleeves tend to leave residue on the vinyl.
Enjoy the Stones, I did consider getting it but decided against in the end.
As others have said, this is the same style cleaner as the Spin Clean which has been around since the 70’s. It’s not a super ultrasonic or vacuum system that costs hundreds, but it does a great job cleaning dirty, used records and new pressings with crap in the grooves from the factory (lousy QC). I have a clear plastic Spin Clean I use before playing any new purchase (new or used) and after about 20 records you can see the water is dirty when you dump it but pops and crackles and surface dirt are greatly reduced. One suggestion though, Andrew. After cleaning, toss those white paper inner sleeves and put your newly cleaned records in some plastic inners like MoFi or the ones I use Diskeeper 2.0 from Sleeve City. White paper will cause static and you’ll get paper dust right back on your clean records. If there are custom inners like with photos or lyrics, I slip them empty in the jacket with no record in them. Maybe consider using some outer sleeves as well to protect the jacket surface.
BTW for Spin Clean users, since they don’t come with a drying rack, a bamboo foldable dish drying rack works well to air dry wet records before you sleeve them.

I have a Spin-Clean, which I think does a great job for the money, despite its detractors claims that "all it does is polish the surface" or "it just spreads the dirt around". But when the difference between a Spin-Clean or its very similar cousin Spincare is hundreds of dollars compared to an ultrasonic unit, I find for my purposes, the Spin-Clean has made noticeable improvements in the sound of the older records I've run through it. But it doesn't have a fancy drying rack, which is pretty cool, although you'd have to remember to remove that before you fill the basin with liquid!
Thanks for the informative and common-sense video. I was hovering about buying one of these mchines but your before / after comparisons have convinced me it's the right way to go. I think there's an argument for using a new inner sleeve after cleaning as the originals are going to be contaminated with dirt, paper shards and mould spores. I use "vinyl guardian" available on e-bay which work out at under 40p each and I've been well satisfied with them. Thanks once again for the excellent, sensible video .0)

This is great Andrew, I have all my 45s from year one but they are dirty and need a good clean. Plus all the new records that arrive a bit dirty as well. Don't want to spend 500.00 for a better model but this won't hurt the wallet. Really enjoyed your video, thanks so much for taking the time to go through the process. Take care. P.S. I found this very informative. I use the American version called the Spin Clean. I found that 5 revolutions per side makes a marked difference. And rinse with distilled water after the spin clean. If you find a moldy dirty album I’ve spun as high as 10 revolutions. For the price it is a good machine. Well done.

I was amazed at how effectively this simple machine works! In Germany, where I live, we have the Knosti, which works the same way. I have never owned one. In my opinion, you have to vacuum the cleaning fluid, otherwise you just spread the fluid and the dirt. Even if you already experience audible sonic improvement, as you presented!
For many years I couldn't afford a record washing machine, and I used to go to a hi-fi shop where you could clean records. They had a VPI 16.5 - that was great. Then they also used to have a Clear Audio Double Matrix Professional Sonic, a fully automatic machine. But in my opinion, the vpi was just as good in terms of results, you just had to do the whole job yourself!
I also tried the Ultrasonic from Kuzma and the Gläss Vinyl Cleaner, but these ultrasonic machines didn't convince me; and above all MUCH too expensive (for my budget).
I finally decided on the completely revised one from Okki Nokki - the 'Okki Nokki One 2020' and I am thrilled. I can only recommend it. This machine is still relatively cheap and works just as effectively as much more expensive machines! (I actually wanted to buy the vpi, which still cost 1500 dollars at the time, but was no longer imported just before COVID... so it was no longer available in Europe. I saw that the vpi is now only $999 / €, but that is still double the price of the Okki Nokki.)
I made this (modest) investment because I think that if we spend so much money on buying LPs, you simply have to have a record washing machine (or use one in a hi-fi shop that offers record washing - although that's then very expensive again in the long run!): nowadays I wash all records without exception, new and old. 🤪
For the price those are very pleasing results! Btw, good to see a bit of Iron Maiden on your channel!

I swear by these types of cleaners, preferring them over the cleaners that just put fluid in the grooves and vacuum it out. The felt brushes are the key to working the dirt out of the grooves using mechanical action. I like the built in drying rack, which didn’t come with my original Spin Clean model. One trick is to bring the water level up to the bottom of the channel that the roller bearing spins in. That makes the spinning action go much smoother.
You might have just sold me on Spin Clean over Record Doctor. Been trying to figure out which one to get for last day or so. But that’s a great sales pitch for the Spin Clean type products and they are a lot cheaper!
This is exactly like the Spin Clean. What I like about the SC is that its solution doesn’t have alcohol in it, while this one does. I know there are those who will say that they’ve used alcohol for years to clean their records and never had a problem with it. But I would rather be cautious with my record collection that I’ve spent on hundreds of dollars on records over the years.
You could use the SC solution with this. But after you bought it, putting it together with this system, you’ve ended up spending as much as you would on a SC starter kit. So why not just get the Spin Clean in the first place?
Hiya. Do yourself a favour and get a vinyl vac 33. It’s about £28 and goes on the end of a wet and dry vac. These are found cheaply.
You have to vac off the fluid otherwise the residue drys back on the grooves.

Just tried it now Andrew, its really tight with a standard guage LP and is not freely turning the record.
I have the Knosti Disco Antistat which is similar but has a winding handle to make it easier. Definitely worth cleaning any records including new ones which are often dirty. I would recommend anyone invest in this type of cleaner as it makes a big difference.

Have a similar system called SpinClean which I'm really happy with, makes a big difference to both used and new records. Andrew, I'm curious to know how you captured the needle drops. I don't suppose you have a video that shows what hardware and software you use for audio capture?
I haven't done a video on that but it's something I could look in to doing! But the basics are these: Rega Fono Mini A2D which sends the signal via USB in to my laptop where I record the audio with Audacity software. I've done needledrops of a few of my albums, the one I did of David Bowie's Young Americans album sounds superb!
Hi Andrew I have the Knosti Disco Antistat and it is about the same as you have, but I only clean records when I think it is necessary and that is almost never. In the earlier days people never cleaned their records and most of my records play still fine and were never cleaned, so I do not feel the need of buying a very expensive machine for that purpose.
Sort of looks like the Knosti disco antistat, which is somewhat taller in height. I’ve been using the Knosti for more than ten years now, used it yesterday actually, and still as happy with the result as always. Just make sure you use a proper cleaning liquid. The standard Knosti liquid is not recommended, i have used Tonar audio QS instead which works much better. Make sure not to put too much liquid in the container, otherwise the record label might get wet and eventually damaged.

Works similarly to the spin queen unit which is a bit more expensive, but does the same thing. I wish they would make these motorized instead of having to turn the record manually
Also make sure that you have a good stylus cleaning brush or other gear, as the needle will often pick up some of the random dust and debris loosened by the SpinCare or Spin-Clean that doesn't necessarily come out in the wash, as it were.
Good plan, I do have one of those little pots with a gel inside (can't remember the name of the product) where you dip the needle on it and it removes the fluff, that works really well.
@@AndrewDixonMusic I have one of those as well, my one problem with it is that small amounts of the gel will creep outside of the container, and I have to scrape it off and put it back inside. Then I sit the container on top of my amplifier, and the low heat makes the substance congeal into one clear mass again. Very weird. Also a good idea to give the stylus a brush afterward, just in case any of that gel is still on the needle, but so far I haven't had any issues with residue staying stuck to the stylus.
Great video Andrew, I bought the Analogue Studio version of this and it does a very good job of cleaning records. However, trying to empty and save the fluid for re use is a pain in the backside. They need a drain plug to help with this and there are no filters if you want to reuse the fluid. I bought coffee filters which seem to do a good job. Apart from that these are very good and at £50ish its a no brainer.

@@AndrewDixonMusic Hi Andrew, the coffee filters are not perfect but they do seem to hold back the crud when you decant the fluid into a sterile container. Some of the more expensive machines do come with filters for the fluid but I don't know how good they are. I bought mine because my Clearaudio Matrix cannot accommodate 7 inch records. I'm well pleased with the results this £50 machine produces and whole heartily recommend it to everyone.

@@AndrewDixonMusic I only clean about 10 -15 or so 7 inch records at a time so I cannot throw the fluid out. I store the filtered fluid in the Halfords De ionised 4.5 litre container which I bought from Halfords. De-ionised is basically the same as distilled water and is also recommended for my Clearaudio matrix machine, but I use L'Art Du Son Vinyl Record Cleaning Fluid on that. From experience the fluid does not go off, it just gets dirty and you know this just by looking at it. I've loved vinyl records for 52 years now and in my opinion their care and storage is as important as the equipment you play them on.

If you are going to waste money on a cleaning machine. This is a very good one as it is low cost. It does a fair job but so do many purely hand cleaning methods.

As a surprise, I was treated to the Pro-Ject record cleaning machine with a built in vacuum. This cleaner looks decent however and is a considerably lower price
well worth getting im hoping it will do as gooder job on my old 78 records
I am sure you know, but never use any cleaning fluid containing alcohol. It will eat shellac.
Must be a Yorkshire thing as i,ve just been receiving physio to mend a shoulder impingement issue. Here is wishing you full recovery
That's what I've had! Physio and 2 injections fixed it on the other shoulder but this one needed more.
It's too much trouble for me, because I'm disabled and I only have only one working hand. And it never has done a very good job for me. So I've ordered for Degritter Mark II to instead.
I have the American version of this (can't recall the name) but had a terrible time with the rubber ring coming out of the rollers. It was a pain to turn the records.

Finding my test records have chipped into the edge and chipped away the plastic edge of the in groove, did you notice this? What could I be doing wrong?
My daughter and myself are second hand vinyl junkies and we're thinking of investing in a record cleaner as none of the records we've bought in the last year have ever been cleaned. She sent me a link just 15 minutes ago, and guess what, it's the one you've just reviewed hahaha. Also, have you any idea how lucky you must have been to find that Iron Maiden single in a shop in Peebles. You'd be hard pushed to find an Iron Maiden in Peebles let alone a red vinyl single. Well done you hahaha. I'm about an hour's drive from Peebles.
There was a little record shop then round the corner from the church at the end of the high street heading out towards Neidpath direction, I think this was the only record I ever bought from there. Peebles is one of my favourite places, used to spend time there every summer visiting family.

Lynfa is a spiritualist so we tend to go there to browse in the crystal shop ' The House Of Gaia ' I certainly haven't come across any record shops any time we've been down, I'll need to keep an eye out next time.

I did buy some good 80s 12 inch remix CDs from a charity shop not too many years ago, was on the same side of the road as The Tontine heading down towards the bottom the high street
@@AndrewDixonMusic yeah record shops in small towns like Peebles would definitely struggle. I love Moffat as much as Peebles, and just before COVID a record shop appeared, it lasted about 2 years if it even was that. It was a good wee shop, i loved it, bought some absolute gems from it.
I recommend rinsing the records after cleaning as otherwise the cleaning solution is left on the record. because these are inexpensive, some people buy two, one for washing and one for rinsing. I made my own rinse bucket. Anyone know how this compares to the Spin Clean?

Hi, there's nothing it can do about scratches, they will still be there, and if a record skips due to a scratch that also can't be fixed.
Is it possible for a record to skip because of excessive dirt in a groove? Not sure but sounds feasible, and if that's the case then this should be able to fix that.

Hi Andrew , how did the spincare record cleaner cope with 180g vinyl , because I read a review from someone & they said that 180g vinyl barely fits into the machine , now you cleaned the recently released revolver which is 180g vinyl , did that fit into the machine with ease & clean fine ?
Didn't notice a problem at all John, most records seemed to be most difficult to spin on the first rotation and then further spins were easier, maybe the lubrication of the liquid helped. But yeah, 180g no problem.

Looks like a spin doctor. When you run out of cleaner, keep the bottles. A solution of distilled water, a drop of dawn dish soap, and alcohol. The ratio is online.

With the Iron Maiden record, the real noise starts AFTER that part that you showed.... Did it clean that up too?
Yes, the whole record received a similar clean up, but I decided to focus on the start as I could emphasise the point better on a quiet part (and avoid copyright issues!)

The Spincare machine is great to use for cleaning our vinyl, however, we have issue with the two pads that apparently click in. Once a record has been cleaned and it’s taken out the machine to place on drying rack the pad/s are pulled out with the cleaning pads, so not great. Has anyone had this issue?
Hi Andrew , after you cleaned your vinyl records , did you notice any dry water marks & possible staining from the cleaning fluid on the playing surface , that’s my only concern about buying this type of record cleaner

@@BeatleJohn813 I left the room for a couple of hours before returning, I've read elsewhere that they're dry much quicker than that.
I have moved on to Liquinox in a 1% solution. It is be far the best product to use, and bet money Liquinox is in VPI fluid

Oh yeah first wipe down with a velvet cloth I bought a yard at hobby lobby for like 4 bucks and cut my on rags.
What on earth do people do with their records that require these machines? I started collecting records aged 12 in 1973. I bought my final vinyl record in 1987 when I bought my first CD Player. I held onto my vinyl collection and it was carefully stored in the attic until 2021 when I retired. I was watching the vinyl resurgence from a distance with some degree of amusement and scepticism- the prices being charged were outrageous! I decided that maybe I should buy a new turntable as I was upgrading my HiFi and would have more time to spend listening to music. Why not bring the vinyl out of storage and listen to a few old classics? I bought a Technics SL1500C. I dusted off the boxes of albums and with just a light use of the record cleaning brush I was back in action. My albums were in immaculate condition. When I see the condition of records that people are buying 2nd hand it sets my teeth on edge! Why spend money on something that clearly has not been cared for? What state are the grooves in? Was it played using a rusty nail? The very idea of attempting to "clean" such a disc and then play it on a decent turntable with a quality cartridge.... ARGH! NEVER! Why on earth would I risk my equipment in such a way???!!!!!
Sometimes even new discs straight from the factory benefit from cleaning, certainly the copy of the 2022 Beatles Revolver I got last year had quite a bit of surface noise that regular brushing wouldn't shift but a proper clean did.
Silly question but what about using a hair dryer to dry them?
I'm sure someone will try that, not sure I want to be first though! 😉
That's disappointing,the "Revolver" record having those issues,brand new from the factory,considering its expense.Good news though,that your gadget improved its sound quality.
Those machines work, but I prefer the Disco Antistat with its goat hair brushes and the clamp system.
Just the cleaning fluid that comes with isn't that good.
There was an invention 40 years ago called the Compact Disc, solves all that crackle and pop
Not necessarily true, if a cd has significant marks and scratches on it then it will affect the sound and sometimes you can ‘hear’ the scratches.. 😝
There's a lot of old albums that have never been on CD and are not on any streaming/download services either. Same for 12" remix singles or songs that were exclusive B-sides on a 45. Also a lot of early CDs got disc rot and can't be played anymore. Records can't get disc rot, but cassettes/8-tracks can get dropouts if they've been stored near a magnet.
Sometimes CDs have to be cleaned as well if they haven't been handled correctly. I once made a mistake lending some CDs to a friend who hadn't handled them carefully so they were unplayable when he returned them. Following a party in his home beer had been spilled on some of them and there were signs of greasy fingers all over the surfaces. But after having cleaned them I was able to play most of them again except the ones that had been scratched.
I'd rather have a bit of crackle than sacrifice the dynamic range and bass that is missing on many CDs.
@@ianz9916 I love the sound of vinyls but it's a well known fact that vinyls have a lower dynamic range than CDs. Vinyls have a dynamic range of 55-70dB, whereas digital music can go up to 90-96dB.
Need to use vinyl gloves to keep finger prints off records
I had a similar machine.. Got rid and got a Project VCE … miles better
Great video everything proven vhs tapes more fixable then that thing is now days everything proven broken vhs tape itself is fixable with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's everything proven am whiching vhs movies at all and know that broken vhs tape itself is fixable with Scotch tape yet I have fixed one myself

One at a time, the drying rack holds several.
Shame it isn't automatic. 3 spins ain't enuff. 5 minute cycle may bring it close vaacuum and ultrasonics

What's needed is a machine that improves the quality of the album. I pop a Wings vinyl in the machine, which 3 rotations later pops out with Linda McCartney singing in tune, Henry McCullough allowed to solo longer, and Billy Preston now on keyboards.
In my cleaning system, the living room is the machine. The LPs are stacked on the floor along the walls, which have rising damp. As long as you keep the damp topped up, it reaches to the run-out groove all the way to Never could be any other way on Sgt Pepper.
Great that you kept the Goldfinger 45 in the family, a relic of a tremendous renaissance in Britain. It goes without saying there should be a boxed Corgi gold Aston Martin db5 on the shelf next to it.
I used the Knosti disco-antistat for over 4 years until i recently upgraded to the Humminguru.
How are you getting on with the humminguru? A mate of mine is interested in getting one.
@@AndrewDixonMusic Hi Andrew, it's ok. It's easy to use and i can just switch it on and leave it to clean. it does a good job for the money. Your friend should watch a few youtube videos, there are some good ones out there. My collection is well cleaned and looked after. So i don't need anything as good as a degritter or similar to turn VG in to Mint- haha. It says not to use a surfactant but using one lowers the surface tension of the water and you don't get droplets of water left behind on the record.
