- Neil introduces "from Blackpool, Lancashire, the one and only Mr Chris Lowe" and breaks into laughter mid-song as Chris messes up and plays out of tune (proof that he's playing live lol). They both crack up as if it's just the two of them watching TV on a Sunday afternoon, as if the world isn't watching.
"He can't remember the chords," Neil jokes and adds "We were NEVER being boring, particularly in the end."

Another priceless moment that I was close enough to see but not quick enough to record: at the very beginning of the concert while "Suburbia" blasts out of the speakers Neil, partly visible behind the video wall, prepares as he puts on his mask, his face solemn and concentrated, while Chris, private!Chris, spreads his arms wide a mere second before they face the crowds, as if to say "That's it. Let's get the party started", probably bursting with enthusiasm, or nervousness, or both.
The video wall slowly pulls up and public!Chris is back again, with his arms stuck to his sides and his usual poker face back on, the epitome of aloofness and cool.
Now, if anyone has recorded that one true-Chris-Lowe moment of adrenaline and pure joy, they would do the world a great service.

I saw this tour in Dublin a few months ago. One of the best concerts that I've ever had the privilege to attend (honestly, it would rank up there with Springsteen in terms of entertainment - and I've seen him live THREE times). Not a single moment would I change. Perfect setlist. Perfect performances. Amazing staging and lighting. They're easily one of the best live acts around at the moment and it's a shame more people aren't talking about them in that light.
I always thought they backing track was prerecorded so this is satisfying
It is a backing track. Chris plays extremely basic melodies and chords that a child of ten could play.
I'm sure that you may well be a technically superior musician? Or maybe not....
But the question is how many fantastic hit records have you written and produced?

I thought most of the Pet Shop Boys music was pre recorded.
@Steve-ix2un not pre recorded live, pre programmed certain elements yes but with the other guy's are certainly playing live and live singing, this ain't no taylor swift or other certain artists that mime
This is so sweet 🥰Lovely that Neil almost cracks up, and his remark about never being boring is priceless. Both him and Chris are so likeable and nice persons, and it's always great to get a glimpse behind their professonal stage personas. Thank you!
You're welcome! I was only recording this because I knew how cute the end of their concerts always is, with Neil introducing "Mr Chris Lowe" and "We ARE the Pet Shop Boys". But then I saw Chris cracking this huge embarrassed smile (typically licking his lips), shrugging and mouthing at Neil "Ah can' remembah the chords...!" And yes, typical Neil, always coming up with the wittiest remarks and saving the day. 😆During their concerts the introductions to the songs are mostly scripted, so it was pure joy to "peep behind the curtain" and see what lies beyond the Pet Shop Boys™: just Chris and Neal teasing each other and having fun. 😁
@@elenatria that's so true! They ARE the Pet Shop Boys, they have every reason to pronounce it this way! And sure, this is the one and only(!) Mr Chris Lowe! 😁 I've been in Frankfurt last year and I'll visit the show in Cologne in June! Yes, there are mostly scripted parts but they always show a little bit of themselves! (In Frankfurt it was almost the hottest day of the year so far and Neil pointed out "it's so hot!" - everyone agreed 😂)
It makes them more approachable and i love to see that they are just human too! ❤️

They don't need to remember them. Neil has the lyrics on autocue; Chris has his chords on his monitor. Their parts are simple enough for a Grade I novice to play.

Real musicians make mistakes, I would far rather have this then listen to someone lip sync over a prerecorded backing track. 😊

I guess Chris confuses g# minor7 with G Major7, and from that point on he is lost. He makes the same mistake again the second time, then gives up. Being a keyboard player in a band myself, I know these situations quite well! Even though (or maybe even especially if) you have played a certain song a hundred times, nothing can save you from moments like these. It's like thinking too hard about a password, which will definitely result in forgetting it. 🙂
@michaelkuchenbeker1688 That's one legit explanation. He usually looks at the screen because he can't remember everything, but he was improvising just seconds before so maybe he got carried away. 😅 Even Neil himself has admitted that sometimes his mind goes blank and refuses to remember the lyrics. 🤣
@@khv_dv_jungle as I was recording this, all I noticed was Chris breaking into laughter and Neil chuckling while singing and I was like "...Is somethiiiing.. happeniiiing heeere...??? 👀". I would have never noticed the mistake had they not both started cracking up. 😝
My biggest fear exactly, one reason I never wanted to play live in a band. The moment stop playing from muscle memory and start to think, my mind can go blank in an instant…
They're not the wrong chords, though - he was just doing a jazz version... Can't be wrong if it's a major or minor seventh (but best tell the rest of the band first...) 😃

Been to see them many times. This was up there with my favourite gigs. Atmosphere was magic and the weather never spoiled the occasion. Will be down in Leeds later in the year. Can't wait.
