    Just letting you know the wheel on the cabin is also suppose to move! Maybe put some oil on that part also so it fully works!

    I've never seen an oil rain lamp before. That looks so cool! Outstanding work.

      Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoyed it! Rain Lamps were popular in the 60's and 70's. They typically have a statue of Venus in the center, but other examples like this mill exist as well

    Currently cleaning/restoring an oil lamp but it didn’t come with the foliage so do you just place the fake foliage into the same hole as some of the monofilament lines?

    What were you spraying the lamp with to get it to clean up so nicely?

      A cleaning products called L.A.'s Totally Awesome. It's a fantastic cleaner and is available in most dollar stores. It's got a very strong smell so try not breath the fumes or use in tight quarters

    How do you replace the light bulb? Do you have to pull it through the wire to put it in?

    • @MrVintageRestoration
      @MrVintageRestoration  2 роки тому +1

      In the case of this lamp once you remove the top you pinch the metal clips on the base socket and remove it. Change bulb and reinstall. Every one can be a little different. Some you just unscrew and replace from the bottom like a typical bulb. If you have issues feel free to contact me via email or in a post on our Facebook page. Happy to assist!

    I have been struggling trying to clean/restore a lamp and the guts look just like this. I am having trouble with how to get to the motor to clean.... more info/explanation of products used, troubleshooting would be so appreciated. Can I find that somewhere? Thanks!!

    I just cleaned mine, took it all apart, the fan in the motor looked good and spun, put it all back together, added 4x16oz of mineral oil…. But it’s not coming down from the top. Any ideas? I didn’t clean the tubing in the side that transports the oil to the top and couldn’t get into the top reservoir because my top just had the screw to the chain. I don’t know what to do.

    • @MrVintageRestoration
      @MrVintageRestoration  10 місяців тому

      Some times it takes a while running for it to start. Also if the mineral oil is cold, it will pump slowly. You will want to check to make sure all the tubes are clear. Depending on how it was stored, it's always possible a bug built a nest in it or it could just be plugged. Hopefully this helps, 🤞

    My pump is identical. What kind of oil did you use to lubricate it when you disassembled it?

  • @N1RuffinFan

    I restored a rain oil lamp. Though the motor works, it doesn't pump oil to the top. It has and external gear pump. I'm thinking the mineral oil is too thin?

    • @MrVintageRestoration
      @MrVintageRestoration  2 роки тому +3

      Typically my experience is that they don't pump well when the mineral oil is too thick or too low of a level in the lower reservoir. It may also take a minute of being on before it moves enough oil to work. It's also possible your pump may be worn out? Hard to say. Good luck with it!

    • @N1RuffinFan
      @N1RuffinFan 2 роки тому +1

      @@MrVintageRestoration thanks. It's actually a new pump. It's as if enough pressure isn't building up.

    • @pyrodork

      There may be a restriction in the hose to the top reservoir. Also if the hose diameter is too small, that will reduce the volume of flow.

      @@N1RuffinFan Did you get it to work ? I bought a new pump also and it pumps if I keep turning it off and on but something isn't right about it.

    • @N1RuffinFan
      @N1RuffinFan Рік тому +1

      @@kimberleywood581 yes, I did. I replaced the hose to the pump also. I think it was starting to dry rot and allowing air to get it and not build up pressure. It does pump, but oil comes down more on one side than the other.
