Переглядів 519Рік тому
So after years of not having a tractor, we decided it was time to get one! We needed a tractor with a loader and I found this Ford 2N Tractor Not running and in need of Repair. Unsure of what it's troubles are, I decided to solider ahead. The 2N is the tractor made between 1942 and 1947. It's between the Ford 9N and Ford 8N. Now the only question is can I fix it? and how bad is it?

Looking good as it is with the potential to be a real beauty like the Oldsmobile. And I'm one of those rare individuals who prefers 4 door cars. I started out with a 66 Catalina wagon and got hooked on the practicality.
@@kevinfiebelkorn4715 I'm a sucker for 4 doors, always hated having to crawl in and out of the back seat of a 2 door 😂
Great video! Keep us posted on the Chevys future
Thanks@@abandonedhistory3383 !!! Fingers crossed, it'll be getting a paint job in the near future 😄
Another great video, awesome car to get running. Greetings and happy Thanksgivings from California Mr. Vintage.
@@The_rusty_corner. Thanks for watching and commenting! This was definitely a favorite project for me! A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours from all of us here in the Great Lakes State😁
Nice intro Austin. Charlie & Violet were so excited!
@@shirlynb148 thanks so much! We really liked how the new intro covers the wide variety of projects I do! Yes, the kids are maniacs 😂
Great news getting it running Looking forward for the next episode
@@ian.M440 thanks for watching! It's definitely fun to be doing some of our more normal content again! Will it run? Is definitely one of my favorite video types to do 😁
Nice demonstration, thank you. I am imagining what tools were available in this era. Chain saws would be much less common, and a lot heavier. this would have been a helpful tool for the farmer.
@@wavekube4343 your most welcome! Yes, in this time frame chainsaws were very uncommon. Many early chainsaws look more like a 5hp Briggs and Stratton with a bar, and are equally as heavy and unwieldy. This buzz saw will handle up to 12" pieces. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe!
Used one of those saws for years to cut up limbs. Faster than the chain saw
@@neilkratzer3182 I 💯 agree! Especially if you have two people. One to feed it and one to catch/throw the drop! Thanks for watching! Don't forget to subscribe, were always working on something round here 😀
Yikes! All i can think about is a tooth flying off that blade. Id never line my body up with it.
@@taylorsutherland6973 it definitely could happen, I have a blade missing a tooth hanging on my garden fence. Typically I don't line myself up with the blade but some it it is for better camera angles for demonstration. Excellent safety point
You appear to have all your body parts. But the wiggle in that feed makes me think of the blade catching a log in the cross feed (as it racks a bit) and throwing it. I did this once on a table saw using a cross feed. A four by four about three feet long was thrown hard. It missed my head -just- and put a hole in the wall.
@@jamesstrawn6087 yes, all body parts accounted for. You definitely want to use common sense and care as any saw can be dangerous.
My first car was a 54 Super 88, two-tone green and white. It looks exactly like that 98 except the engine is red. My engine was green with yellow writing on the valve covers. I miss that car sometimes. The "hang-on" strap for the backseat brings back memories of holding on when My grandad drove us to the beach in it! Nice video!
Sounds like you had a beauty of a first car! Definitely had a lot of fun with our 54 Oldsmobile! You are correct on the engine colors. Ours was repainted by a previous owner. Our car was originally blue and white, but was repainted with the red and given a new interior. Thanks for watching! Don't forget to like and subscribe, if you liked this video, you'll definitely like our new one coming out on the 28th😁
Glad to see you again. It's been a while.
@@kevinfiebelkorn4715 and thank you for watching and commenting! Life has definitely been busy here at our little homestead, but I've got a big new video coming out on the 28th of this month. My goal is atleast one video a month 🙂 fingers crossed, I can do it
I had one of these. Used it once. Then sold it. I didn't have a need for it. I cut all my wood to length as I'm cutting it up. Nice display and video. Great work!
@@Jason1Pa I'm a sucker for the way it used to be done 😂 I probably will use this unit mostly for cutting up slab wood bundles I get from a local saw mill. I actually do like using it better than a chainsaw. I've got a old Home lite XL with a 20 inch bar and a full chisel chain
@MrVintageRestoration I can see cutting slabs up or if a tree company dumps miscellaneous sizes off to cut it with one,but for me Im just down in the woods going at it its better to cut it length and not handle it again.
Listen to your wife. She is a smart lady. You will shoot your eye out
😂 gotta live a little dangerously 😅
@@MrVintageRestorationmy dad was an eye surgeon. He treated “foreign bodies” in the eyes frequently. Use that cord wood saw wisely with safety glasses on. I was in construction as a project director and also was keenly aware of safety glasses preventing eye injuries
@davemilster you are a 💯 correct. Normally I wear my hearing and eye protection. For whatever reason I forgot my glasses when I did this video. Careless on my part, but I got lucky this time
Nice work
Thanks Ian! Fun little project, big video coming out on the 28th this month 😉
@MrVintageRestoration will look forward for that
I have the electric option (extra $35 I understand!). Is the motor serviceable?
@@sarniaspirit I'm sure it needs some service. Most likely just cleaning, oiling, possibly new brushes.
At last. Someone who actually knows how to restore a straight razor. As a straight razor restorer myself I salute you. Nice job. Looks like mid to late 1800s??
@@cheshirebowman4465 thank you for the kind words! Not sure on the date, I never looked it up

I'm going to try my second attempt (and second piece of cloth) using this method. The old RCA radio I'm working on has the cloth mounted on standard corrugated cardboard which has a slight curl to it.
@@SuburbanDon cardboard is tough! Best of luck!
Do you have any for sale?
@@effieabrahamsen6017 I do not.
An original interior with the refrigerator door intact. Such a good find for a restoration.
How much does it cost to have a radio like that restored?
@@KennyJoe01 legitimately, probably $1,500 for a restoration like this.
This is a rare find of a video. Typically, I have seen the restoration videos on the rounded Hehr windows, but this is the first one I have come across that has shown how to restore the older squared off windows. Thanks!
V8 sounds so special.
good restore. needs a real sharpening though
What a cool little gizmo! Even such a simple utilitarian item such as that was designed with care, with those rounded-off fins giving just the slightest hint of art-deco. Built to last and looked good doing it.
So glad to see you back. What a unique yet simple piece of machinery from back in my youth.
Thank you for watching, and it's definitely a interesting yet useful contraption 😂😁

Currently cleaning/restoring an oil lamp but it didn’t come with the foliage so do you just place the fake foliage into the same hole as some of the monofilament lines?

Being a fellow tin canner restorer here in Michigan, Thank You for your how too video!
Thank you for restoring and preserving this beautiful machine! Looks awesome.
Have you tried putting citric acid inside the fount? I don't know where I went wrong with my 335 lantern but I found out the hard way there was a type of rust protector on the inside. I didn't have a tool to remove the check valve so I worked at it for a 1-1/2 days of spraying carb cleaner into the valve to clean it up. After I got the valve working I put a citric acid solution on the inside of the fount to clean up any varnish because I was rather certain the previous owner left it full of pump gas until it evaporated dry. When I was rinsing out the tank all this paint came off the inside of the tank. Internet said using both carb cleaner and citric acid was okay. I hope it doesn't rust away too quickly now.
Can you use any kind of cloth or is there a specific type to buy? Mine radio isn’t functional and I’m just restoring it for the aesthetics.
Radio speaker cloth is a fairly thin fabric. Just google it and you'll find suppliers
I have a Radiola 20 model AR-1440 I’m trying to restore and am needing parts for. Where can I get those?
Unfortunately I am not familiar with that model so, I'm afraid I won't be much help 😞
I have a SmokeMaster 'Custom Made' Prince shape from the same era. The pipe was so used by the previous owner there is a shine from his thumb rubbing on the side of the bowl and over the shaft. Best smoker I own out of all my pipes.
Wowzeeee thats burning super 🔥! Nice Lantern what year is it?
In 1972 my family moved to a 545 acre farm in Missouri. A month later my dad drug my uncle's 54 Olds from the shop where it had been setting for several years after the transmission went out to the farm. He put it out in the lot in front of the barn. I was 5, my 2 sisters were 8 and 10. My dad said, "Here you go, have fun!" We played in that car for hours and hours. I usually got to "Drive" and we went all over the world. Africa, Europe, China and even the moon!!! We put a few million miles on that old car even though it never moved. We named her Ol' Blue and my oldest sister even painted the name on her hood with some old tin paint we found in the barn. In 1974 my cousin came for a 2 month visit. He was 15 and a total car nut. He fell in love with the car and my dad agreed if he could get her running he would sell the car to him. My cousin dragged me to every local junkyard where we collected parts. A new pair of tail lights (the horses had broken the original ones), a piece of side trim, a couple of door handles. My cousin was trying to earn enough money to get another transmission but they were like $15 at the salvage yard and that was a lot of money in the summer of '74. He left and never came back for Ol' Blue. The next year my parents split up and my mom moved to a town 45 miles away and us kids went with her. My dad sold the farm and worse off he sold Ol' Blue to the local salvage yard. Life went on but I always wanted a '54 Olds. Well, three weeks ago I bought 2. They were in a salvage yard full of old cars and they were headed for the crusher if no one bought them. They sat in that yard for 60+ years side by side. Unfortunately one is in really bad shape so it will give it's life to save the other. I got them both home last weekend and the better of the two is now setting in my shop where the restoration has already begun!!!
I love the story! I was always partial to Buicks, but Oldsmobile holds a special space in my heart, because the first dealership I ever worked for was a Oldsmobile dealer. I fell in love with this car, and have had some wonderful adventures in it. Looking forward to getting it on the road again when I get our old house squared away! Good luck with your restoration! You'll love it when you're done!
