I like the fact that you're not a sponsorship bimbo, i.e. you actually use all the products you endorse and not just for one episode. Motul, Avalon King, J&J salvage, etc.
Hey, I just bought the Turtle Wax headlight restoration kit at O’Reilly’s. Told the guy at the counter about your comparison video and he’s going to try it too. He also going to check out your channel.
BG makes high quality brake fluid, power steering fluid, motor oil, and transmission fluid right in Wichita. I was in the plant about 8 years ago. Is there a reason you don't use their stuff. I understand BG flunked marketing class, but are there other reasons?
I am really enjoying this short update format. Most people think you can rebuild a car in a day but you are really showing its one roadblock after another. Looking forward to the next update.
Jay Leno just did an episode on his 1999 C5. Talked about how it was one of the best performance values out there. Derek on Vice Grip Garage has a C5. Watching you fix this one up. Hoovie has me checking out Autotempest for 2002-2004 C5’s every day.
My buddy bought a C4 7 years ago. Paid 1800 for it from a pawn shop. All he did was put on new tires and a radiator. All in under 3K and he told me that it was the best 3K he ever spent. Convertible just like this, slightly older 1988 model and only had like 20k on the clock when he got it. And it's the best P magnet that he's ever owned.
As someone who worked in the parts world back in college. I can say those temp sensors fail all the time in the trucks, but not the cars for some odd reason. So many dudes came in with oil temp problems, but it ended up just being a sensor
I would have given those rotors a little psssht psssht of satin black after wire brushing them. While I like open and airy wheels they also do a great job of showing off rusty rotors.
A story to go with your tight oil plug....I bought a new 1978 Chevy short bed truck with a 350 V8 stick and when I went to do the first oil change the oil filter was on so tight that the metal cap wrench I used twisted the stock filter like a cork screw and so the only way I could get it to finally come off was to take a large screw driver and hammer it through the base of the filter and beat that with a hammer to finally get it to turn off.
my $.02 on the paint, please keep it green it reminds me of an old ford cortina my grandfather had in england, it always looked like it was going fast just siting there
Makes me miss my old c5. Fantastic platform to start learning mechanics on and very reliable. Possible to see you attempt some painting on this one? I know it’s time consuming and not an easy thing to do but I think it would make for some great content.
Might as well. The panels are already trashed. Find the factory paint, sand, mask prime, paint, clear, bake. Wait a month and sand/compound/polish or sell if you can't wait. Do as good a job as you can, either way itll still look a million times better than trashed clear. Might not be perfect but it's still the factory color and a stickler can get it redone professionally if they really wanted to.
They really did make that oil change about as neat as it can get. Everything is accessible and nothing for the oil to drain onto. Turing into a drive-able car!
Hey, I found your channel this week because I also bought a C5 recently. Really curious what you find about the fans. Mine got warm once in traffic and when I looked into it the internet said that in stock configuration it can get as hot as 230 degrees before the fans will kick on high. The easy way to correct this is by turning on the AC. Looking forward to seeing more of this car. =]
Yep my 1988 V6 Fiero is similar. It can get close to 230 before the fan comes on and that's normal. And like you said if you're concerned just turn on the AC.
What a great car for the price. So cool that you have the chops to swap out the wiring harness. But dude, 10 minutes is just not enough JRGo! Especially with the Rat Vette. Can't wait to see a paint correction, please keep the green, I love it. Thanks for the fun.
Why not wait to remove the sensor until you had drained the oil? Would have made a smaller mess and allowed just a bit more time for things to cool down.
Good video and some great content!! Is there an issue with the transmission? I saw that the TCC solenoid or torque convertor clutch solenoid was disabled on the error codes. I used to own a GM product with an automatic transmission and when my TCC solenoid went out a quick fix was to just unplug it. If I remember right one of the symptoms that it caused was a bucking issue when cruising in high gear at a steady speed. Thanks for the great content and all of the videos.
I think there’s still an issue with the oil temp sensor and its wiring. I have a 2001 manual C5 and have never seen the oil temp low message. It will display the temperature in degrees even when it’s in 40s and your shop has to be warmer than that.
I skip forward or mute thru the intro/outro music and the 'Next time" just because it got annoying to me after watching so many of his videos. Not unusual behavior for me, I do that with most channels I follow, I skip any intro, get right to the action. Love the content and can't stop watching.
Maybe kinda of a weird comment but your action music (2:43) the way it starts is kinda startling... I personally live in sort of a war riddled part of the world and in headphones it sounds immediately like an airsiren which we get if attacked by rockets... Any chance to change or edit that one a bit? Thanks... Cool vid as always...
Please do one of those cheap/weird clearcoat fixes you see on UA-cam. I had a couple of spots on the rear bumper cover of my amazint '10 VW CC that needs help.
Should he have a new wheel brace for getting those new lug nuts off if he gets a puncture? Good move checking the fans, surprising how many rad sensors go out and you find out too late if you dont keep an eye on the gauges
Why a wrap? A wrap creates two problems: 1) they immediately prompt questions of what issues with the paint and finish are you trying to hide with a wrap and 2) why were you too cheap to get the issues fixed with a good repaint?
That Fram oil filter though. 🤮 At least you replaced it with something decent. What's the deal with Motul? Stuff is great for bikes but Amsoil 4 life. Stuff is liquid gold.
The Vette content is great.
🥈 I love working on it!
I like the fact that you're not a sponsorship bimbo, i.e. you actually use all the products you endorse and not just for one episode. Motul, Avalon King, J&J salvage, etc.
I don’t know about you, but I could really go for an ice cold liquid ice right now. ;)

I don't think J&J is a sponsor

You were so correct on the lighting in your shop. It is so clear and bright. Much brighter than any other youtube shop.
this is my attainable dream car, so so happy you bought one and are putting out tons of videos. you the best man, cant wait for more!
C5s are EXCELLENT cars 💯
Don't forget to save for gold chains and Hawaiian shirts.
Love this C5 project.... Great content my man......
🥇 boom! Thanks Josh!
Same can you also do a Lexus flip
I enjoy the projects and since I'm semi-new, I enjoy the collaborative efforts to meet from all the car channels.

Starting to see the gem emerge from the rough. Nice job on a simple fix and the interior is looking great!
He should try fixing the paint, sand it and diy respray would still look amazing

I wish this video was longer. I love watching the progress on this car.
I get satisfaction out of seeing vehicles get repaired. This one is no exception
Great video. Love this series on the Corvette. You are very fortunate to have found the work that makes you happy. Congratulations on your success.
I'm pretty sure the Fram filter was the cause of the temp. sensor failure! LOL🤣
I would have given those rotors a little psssht psssht of satin black after wire brushing them. While I like open and airy wheels they also do a great job of showing off rusty rotors.
I'd say those spacers pretty well cover them.
Great that you are fixing each thing that is wrong. Please change diff fluid as well. No one ever does.
I like this series your doing now on the Corvette. Would enjoy more like this in the future when you can. 👍 You certainly have a lot going on now.
Corvette videos oddly satisfying, keep em coming

Love how this turning out, I’ll just fix all the mechanics and leave the paint as is but that’s me 🤷🏻♂️
my $.02 on the paint, please keep it green it reminds me of an old ford cortina my grandfather had in england, it always looked like it was going fast just siting there
If I could work on the Corvette with Watch JR Goes I would drink the cold Bartle Skeets and pack up the Hash Pipe with Rocky and get all schmoked up
"Thanks GM"
*drips all the oil*
You're welcome.

Love Ratvette! The C5's with the pop up headlights and the green and tan are my favorites.
You are supposed to tighten the oil plug only to the point where you see stars and feel faint...VGG
That engine bay is begging for a pressure washer.
You’re the best JR . Sending you much success . Love the new shop .wow

Gm cars are so easy to work on, Liked

Can't wait to watch the clear coat repairs.
Thanks for rescuing this vette, it deserves it.
Great video as always, love the C5 Vette videos. But can you see if you can find a 4th Gen f body Camaro/ firebird/ Trans am to work on?
Great project. My brother had a "project car" sat in the backyard behind the garage for a year or more. Pushed it out - field mice - YUCK!
The Corvette is an awesome budget build JR Go!!!
Such a fun little project car! Can't wait to see what it looks like in a few weeks.
Why not wait to remove the sensor until you had drained the oil? Would have made a smaller mess and allowed just a bit more time for things to cool down.
kick on the AC will bring up the fans..
Ah man such a short video…. Was hoping for more!?
Ratvette is an awesome name for that car. I hope that sticks to it.
I'd really love to see this Vette cleaned up and painted :) it's a beautiful car
Turn ac on and the fan should kick on. Also the temp for low fan is 220 something and high
like 240
Good stuff JR! I do have to wince when I see that Fram oil filter peeking out there. I'm glad that you removed that bad juju. :)
my 76 chevette was rock solid. i actually miss the car, the gas mileage the most lol.
They're great until you wear the engine out.
0 - 60 ?
@@CR7659 those engines were great. Many are still running pumps or tractors on farms all over
@@longjohn77 I test drove one for a girl that had blown a head gasket or something, the oil was brown and it had no power at all.
for gods sake add the TPMS sensors
Was going to comment on the Fram filter of death. Glad to see it being replaced.

Thanks for the great content and all of the videos.
Those lug nuts on that back tire are CLEAN!
You got it done good job. Get a set of Crows feet wrenches for the next over head tight spot.

Man you and hoovie are my go to love all the content
I always take my gloves off before the oil starts to drain because I love to feel hot oil on my hands.
"EEE'IN" the wire harness. Big fan of the Sub-Titles too.
Looking forward to this installment👌
You should put Fumoto valves on all your cars. They're amazing.
Liking this ratvette series. ☺
My newest game: When I hear "...and I will talk to you...next time" I high five the screen.
I skip forward or mute thru the intro/outro music and the 'Next time" just because it got annoying to me after watching so many of his videos. Not unusual behavior for me, I do that with most channels I follow, I skip any intro, get right to the action. Love the content and can't stop watching.
Kinda cool your c5 has a trans temp gauge... never heard of the cars coming with that.
Keeping it honest is one of your shows keystones, keep up the good work.
Love the colors attention.
Lmao Ratvette 🐀 love it ! Lol
Yep, perfect name.
It had the orange can of death on it, a fram filter
Giving new meaning to the phrase rat rod.
Maybe kinda of a weird comment but your action music (2:43) the way it starts is kinda startling... The fans are right here yo....they kicked in.
Should have some sort of emblems made for the Ratvette theme
I like how they remind you that you're in a Corvette and that it's made by Chevrolet. Given the age of some of the owners ........
Keep up the Corvette stuff man it's my favorite car!
Should he have a new wheel brace for getting those new lug nuts off if he gets a puncture? Good move checking the fans, surprising how many rad sensors go out and you find out too late if you dont keep an eye on the gauges
Good grief DITCH the Fram junk filter, GO WIX!
The vette is ANGERY
Fram: Harbinger of the End Times.
Looking good JR
All that’s left is to beat it like it owes you money.
Are you going to MAACO paint the car? Can you get by with just a new clear coat?
A satin red wrap would look great with that interior.
Why a wrap? A wrap creates two problems: 1) they immediately prompt questions of what issues with the paint and finish are you trying to hide with a wrap and 2) why were you too cheap to get the issues fixed with a good repaint?
You forgot to put the lock nuts back on the rims.
Don’t forget to put back some locking lug nutz
I would never... 😂
The time to put on a glove is *after* drenching your hand in used motor oil...
That Fram oil filter though. 🤮 At least you replaced it with something decent. What's the deal with Motul? Stuff is great for bikes but Amsoil 4 life. Stuff is liquid gold.
Have you ever had a no start becouse of the temp sensor ?
Past Participle army clocking in.
What are you gonna bring out to C&C?? So many choices!
🎶R-a-t-t V-e-t-t, Rat Vett🎶
LOL ... chewing the the problems 🤣 LOL great share.
Yay Ratvette!
Great one , remember support the BDS
Step by step, its getting there
Really fond of the Ratvette! Great job as always dude!
I bet the vette loved going from a Fram to a WixXP. Man I don't even know who in their right mind would put a Fram in anything... sheesh
What does a oil temp sensor do, only for the driver info?
*The factory recommends Mobil 1 though*
Definitely Ratvette! But...soon to be smokin the tires Ratvette...for cheap $$$$!
Ratvette, I would call it Mighty Mouse.
Your oil temp shouldn’t be reading low.
Jr can you and Josh do some more hard fixes with a appearance of Gabe would be nice
