    Perfect timing... we are ready to launch nomadically next month. Love learning from those who are already living it. Thanks for sharing.

    Morning coffee. Gathering local food and cooking. My favorite music. Cleaning . . . of all things . . . cleaning my space! Ha ha!

    No matter where I am in the world....watching my favorite UA-camrs every week feels like home! And I pack a few items that go everywhere with me...when I wrap my favorite silk scarf around my neck or toss my cashmere throw on the bed, that's home too!

    Even when we aren't traveling, we've never stayed in one place more than a couple of years (though we have returned to places again.) So the idea of home has always been fluid for us. I very much agree that having some sort of routine is helpful for finding the familiar and comfortable. That way "home" is dependent on actions you can take, rather than on things you may or may not have with you or places you may or may not be at.

    Hey Guys, We are retired full time slow travelers currently in Albania heading to Bulgaria tomorrow. We agree with everything you said. Some of our “homey” things are: I work out with bands everyday and my wife does yoga; We have a small glass Greek evil eye (Mati) that we carry and hang everywhere we live; finally, and most embarrassing, we carry a small duffel with our full size sleeping pillows. I guess this would be a “homey” thing also, we just wear regular clothes that are comfortable to us. Not a space age or miracle fabric in our bags. At this point, all our clothes are what we have picked up along the way in different countries to replace worn out pieces. We have 2 questions about house sitting. It looks like you are doing quite a few in the US so I assume you have to rent cars. 1. Do you do house sits in other countries that you need to rent cars? 2. You don’t own a car so you don’t have car insurance that covers rental cars, so how do you handle that? Thanks and Happy Trails.

      I love that you don't have "space age" clothes. Great way to describe your comfort! We housesit globally and often we use the homeowners car and their insurance. We'll sign our own liability agreement where we state we are responsible for paying any deductibles. We haven't had to rent a car yet due to housesitting. We are renting a car next week in Boston where our credit card will cover the CDW. We just picked up a non-owners liability policy thru USAA that costs $24 annually (USA only.)

    First off, you both are ROCK STARS! We have binge watched all your videos and are actually seriously of jumping off the gravy train. A question Some of these things don't seem as straight forward as some of the videos make out. Some banks will not do business with a PMB (Personal Mail Box) because they are actually in the USPS system as a business, not residential. Am I overanalyzing this or any suggestions/tips?

      @susanjackson984
      Thank you. Our address at Escapees is actually considered a street address , like an apt suite. It's not a PMB. Your reasoning is right. Some banks won't deal with PMB which is one of the major reasons we went with Escapees so that we could establish domicile. The only bank we've had trouble with is Capitol One. They had no problem with us changing our address on existing cards, but we haven't been able to get new CapOne cards with our Escapees address. No biggie. Lots of other great cards around. What other videos would you like to see? Circle that date on the calendar and get going.

    Great video! And look forward to more videos in the series. As I've traveled, I've thought a lot about how to define "home" as a nomad. I find that wherever I stay, it starts feeling like home after a few days. "Home" really does seem to be more of a feeling than a location. I agree with you about establishing routines as a way to make a place feel like home. And also doing the types of activities that you used to do when you had a house, like hiking, etc.
    I've always thought that fundamentally what makes a place feel like home is that it feels comfortable and familiar. Just like whenever you moved into a new house in the past, it didn't feel like home at first. It took time to become "homey" for you. It felt like home once you became comfortable and familiar with it. I think this can apply with temporary locations as well. Spending time in a new apartment makes it feel more comfortable with each passing day. Becoming familiar with the neighborhood you're temporarily living in, by finding a favorite grocery store or restaurant, figuring out your way around so you no longer need a map, discovering a nice shortcut, seeing some of the same people day after day and interacting with some of them if only by exchanging a simple greeting, etc. It doesn't take long before you feel like you are part of the community and feel like you are "home" when you open the door to your place.

      Yes, exactly! I'm not home until I take my first shower. Then home kicks in.

    Someone needs to do a video on the Schengen Shuffle! There are plenty of apps to help with keeping track but it's still a very confusing process!

    What apps do you pay for that enhance your nomad travels ? ( like all trails)

      We haven't paid for any yet. We use the free version of All trails, TravelFreely, Bubleup, Google. Oh, I do pay for GPSMyCity, which is fantastic.
