I've had Greenstalks for several years (the company is local to me so I've used them since before they got big) and none of my 9 towers have ever had an issue with tipping. The sections are pretty heavy when wet so they lock together. I have seen people in areas with crazy winds have occasional issues, but honestly the closest I've ever had was when I almost pushed it over while moving it. If you are careful where you push or pull (ie: not from the upper sections), you will be good.

Planted up my new Greenstalk with 47 bare root strawberries in March. Then San Diego got a full winter's rain in March & early April, which drowned & rotted almost every plant! Had to go back to the nursery for new plants. Even though I already added extra perlite to my promix potting mix, I added even more when replanting, and very slightly widened the drain holes. The new baby plants are enjoying a warm May-grey, and then they will get a warmer June-gloom, plenty of time to establish themselves before the hot months. So sad about the dead bara root plants, though.

I have a 7 layer leaf greenstalk filled with strawberries that I love. The base is sold separately (as are the wheels for it) but I highly recommend the "Ultimate Spinner Base" (which is what you have). Don't know if I would buy the wheels again but it is nice to have the ability to roll it closer to the house and cover is when we are expecting a frost. I've heard that because of their weight, they stand up OK to wind, but wheels would also give you the option to move it to a more sheltered location if there was a concern. Greenstalks are also great for people with limited growing space. I prefer the Leaf over the Original style as I would never try to grow something large like full sized tomatoes or deep rooted carrots in one. The Leaf is great for strawberries, herbs, and salad greens.

We very much enjoys your videos, and have gotten a lot of useful info from them over the years.
We have a five tier Greenstalk we purchased last year and successfully grew winter greens in it. We purchased a seven tier (shallower pockets) unit this spring and filled with everbearing strawberries gifted us by a friend who was thining her strawberry bed. Have been pleased with it so far. (Getting lots of juicy red strawberries!)
One thing you failed to mention in your video that is in the instructions is to keep the top reservoir clean so dirt doesn't clog the tiny drip holes in it and the water pans for the lower levels. (I also noted you were filling yours in the video with a little dirt in it.) Hope you will share that in a future video.
Keep the great info coming. Thanks! Ed

I love my GreenStalk! One note of warning - be careful not to have your soil right up against the watering disks. The tiny holes can get clogged and then that level won't get watered. I was having an issue last year with lower levels not getting water, and when I took it apart that was the issue. As a bonus, I also had a family of frogs living in there!

I have my greenstalk near my dragon fruit trellis. I put a 1/4 tube and a adjustable sprayer on top of the greenstalk so it can be irrigated when my drip irrigation goes on. It's a bit hard to fine tune the emitter to get the right amount of watering.
I get lazy and don't really turn the greenstalk much. This year, I'm planting 1 side with plants that need full sun and the other side that can tolerate shade (lettuce, greens, herbs, etc.). So I'll face the sun loving side towards the sun most of the time.
I planted strawberries in the bottom 3 layers so my daughters can pick them.
The spinning base makes it easy to spin, it's expensive but probably worth it over the wheels.
I initially bought this to plant herbs and put near my backyard door but that area didn't get enough sun so I had to move it out further. I think its a great alternative for people who don't have a lot of space but in ground beds are best due to how forgiving they are and less maintenance. City Pickers and patio pickers are another good alternative that self waters.

Last year I started a strawberry tower, this year I did one in lettuce & now one in bush string beans❣️ The leaf size is great for lettuce & beans but I recommend the deeper original for peppers & strawberries.

I purchased a 3 level GreenStalk this spring for strawberries and they are really filling in now with fruit and foliage. I ran a 1/4 drip tube up the center into the reservoir and terminated it with an emitter that is adjustable so as to somewhat fill the reservoir on a given cycle for when we are gone for more than a couple of days. It's in full sun all day so it does dry out rapidly. I also fill it with water from the rain barrel from time to time.

And the strawberry leaves are really good for you too!!! During North Texas' extreme heat last year I had to water not only from the top but each individual pocket almost daily. Currently, mine is in full sun and planted with early spring/cold tolerant varieties of lettuces and spinach. I'm in Zone 5. I'm harvesting from it now. I ordered watering systems for my three GreenStalks (two 5-tier originals and one 7-tier leaf). I just finished setting them up and watering for the first time. I thought I'd share the good, the bad, and the ugly.
    The good:
    1) Easy to set up.
    2) Saves watering time if you have a timer and/or multiple GreenStalks.
    3) You can continue to use GreenStalk supports, insect covers, and frost covers as usual.
    4) If you have a timer, you can go on a trip without asking for favors or losing plants.
    The bad:
If you have different types of GreenStalks hooked together on this system, you'll waste some water. My two originals took about a minute to fill up and the leaf took about two minutes. The originals drained water onto the ground during that second minute. A couple solutions: if you’re there, you can shut off the valve for the full GreenStalks. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to get a longer waste hose and put the end in a nearby planter.
    The ugly:
If you have a spinner base or a normal base with wheels, spinning the GreenStalk becomes very inconvenient. You have to unhook the line from each GreenStalk and move the clips to other pockets (there's one for each tier). This is really my only complaint about the system because I love the convenience of the spinner and there's not a good solution for it.

I am growing in Greenstalks for the first time....and so far I love them! I may get at least 1-2 more that are dedicated to strawberries, herbs/lettuces, and a third that is mixed with dwarf tomatoes and flowers. I know i will be getting one for my mom and MIL for either Christmas or Mother's Day.

I love my Greenstalks. I'm up to six now. They can grow a lot of food in a really small space. I grow full sized tomatoes and peppers in mine. I've even did sweet potatoes last year with good results. This year, I'm trying Golden Yukons and Russets in one of the Greenstalks to see how they do. I'm also growing tomatoes and peppers again. I've got one dedicated to my kitchen herbs, and one Greenstalk currently has collards, a few more herbs, and two yellow pear tomato plants in it. I've got two Greenstalks waiting for the right time to plant strawberries in my zone. I missed the window for them over the winter. S. FL. 10b so I need to wait until this fall now.

Too expensive for me. I made raised soil beds covered with landscape fabric like market farmers. Tweaking the fertilizer schedule. So far so good. Going to get some Camino Real and Sweet Charlie or Ruby Red this fall and make one or two more beds. Didn’t realize how much nitrogen and water they need. Goal is to get a pint per plant. So much learning to do but I have successfully grown carrots this year. Next is increasing potato and strawberry yields. Another goal is how much to grow for fresh eating, freezing and sharing. Broccoli definitely grows better in fall. So fun and learned alot over the years. Thankful for Utube channels like this one.

Love your sense of humor! Lol! So glad you received the greenstalk. I love ours! My only " difficulty" is keeping it level over the growing season. I have them on pavers, on a slight hill. But even on our flat lawn...it tends to lean a little, as season progresses. Rains etc. I just pretend...I am in Italy! Lol!

One important note: when assembling the greenstalk, it is absolutely necessary to prevent ANY soil/debri from getting into water reservoirs. For those of us that fill it by layer by layer because we don't have strength to lift a full section. I cover the drain hole with a small bottle. Then when complete, the top reservoir has to be protected from any debris, I made a cover for it and always check before watering.

Excellent video. You're a great instructor. I've seen a few youtube videos from homesteaders/gardeners that have not done as great a video, so until your video, I'm going to order one for strawberries. Because your strawberry information was also very helpful. Thank you :)

Don't feel bad Brian. I'm not too keen on them. Here in Florida they dry soooo fast and the wild life knock it down, coming hurracaine season it's hard to protect them once the veggies are on it. So for me are not so great. The Lambo, now that's a different story😉

We're growing strawberries indoors with LEDS in a popular Subterranean Irrigated Planter (SIP) box. They put out runners like crazy, produced a decent number of berries, but after 8 months (everbearing) they are starting to turn red, then crispy, and die in the SIP box. I think the soil is too wet; next run I will add 30-50% sand to the mix.

I have three greenstalks and I have my strawberries in one of them. I have herbs in the other and lettuce in the last one. One thing that you didn’t show was the drain tube on the bottom that you can direct anywhere you want to. One thing about strawberries is that you need to feed them every two weeks to get the best results.

    Hi Brian
How ya liking your green stalk now that you’ve had it for a little bit??
If you could do a follow up video about how your strawberries are progressing in your green stock, that would be great 👍😊 also how you are caring for them now that spring is upon us
This is year two on mine with strawberries the one thing I’m not sure of if I’m supposed to divide the plant once it gets kind of crowded in the pocket 🤔🤔
So anyway, let us know how it’s going. If you could let me know your opinion on dividing them.
    Thank you always

The GreenStalk is the very reason why I have mentioned to have your concrete terrace bed wells have their own aperatures in them - planting strawberries in the concrete wall, and they will flourish in that vertical environment, which was previously wasted. Any watering of the terraced plants also waters the strawberries - or one can shower the walls and strawberries for their own water needs.

For those on the smaller stature side, like me, you might consider putting the first container on the base, fill with soil, plant, water then stack the 2nd container on it. Fill plant and water and repeat. Unlike Brian, this planter is much taller than I am and lifting a full container over my head to secure on the top would be impossible for me 😂. I have two green stalks the same height as Brian’s both loaded with strawberries 🍓. Great product. Great company. Happy gardening ❤

@Next Level Gardening Re watering system: I love my GS (I have 3 original & 2 leaf) but their watering system I am not fond of. I only need a watering system for when I am on vacation & away from home. The way the system is currently made I can "daisy-chain" them together, but difficult to detach from one another. There is also a basic design problem that is to lengthy to describe here, I can email you about it if you like. The lid is very handy to keep debris out of the water basin.
