Check out my review of Final Fantasy VI on the SNES! This was my first time playing through the game in almost 10 years and it was a wonderful experience yet again. This review covers a hybrid of the retail release of Final Fantasy III SNES & the Ted Woolsey's Uncensored Edition hack for Final Fantasy VI.
Thanks so much for all of the support, I truly appreciate it.

Final Fantasy VI, also known as Final Fantasy III from its initial North American release, is a 1994 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the sixth main entry in the Final Fantasy series, and the first to be directed by someone other than series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi; the role was instead filled by Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Ito. Long-time collaborator Yoshitaka Amano returned as character designer and concept artist, while composer Nobuo Uematsu returned to compose the game's score, which has been released on several soundtrack albums.
Set in a world with technology resembling the Second Industrial Revolution, the game's story follows an expanding cast that includes fourteen permanent playable characters. The narrative deals with the themes of a rebellion against an immoral military dictatorship, pursuit of a magical arms race, use of chemical weapons in warfare, depictions of violent and apocalyptic confrontations, several personal redemption arcs, teenage pregnancy, and the renewal of hope and life itself.

Absolutely my favorite Final Fantasy game. Glad you enjoyed the Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition. I put a lot of hours into making it. The game's story hooked me in such a meaningful way! Especially the whole theme with the World of Ruin.
Thanks! And as of now, I completely agree. I will be revisiting FFVII for the first time since my childhood (probably in May or June). Haven't played through VIII, IX, or X yet. But I have a hard time believing it'll dethrone VI. I thoroughly enjoyed the playthrough and I should do myself a favor and not wait another 10 years in between playthroughs!
This is my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time. Played it through on SNES and GBA. I got the pixel remaster version too, but have not played the pixel remaster version yet. I am excited to try out the pixel remaster version in the future!
Same here! Although I do need to replay VII soon as it's been a LOOOOONG time for me.
I'm in the same boat as you! I have all the Pixel Remasters, but haven't played them yet. I'm sure the quality of life upgrades and graphical tweaks will be awesome in a future playthrough!
These older RPG have always impressed me with the sprite work. some very cool and compelling monsters, scenery etc
Yeah man, Final Fantasy VI really pushed that limit between top notch 16 bit stuff, almost bordering on that pixel art look that some PS1 era games retained (before going all blocky). Great looking game!
Great review. Watched all the way through.
Thanks, man! I used to do short reviews (and wanted that to be my gimmick) but had a lot of people wanting longer so I just let it flow now haha
Final Fantasy 3 aka 6 is amazing also the music is amazing and I wish that the real Final Fantasy 3 would get released in the USA in the first place. 😀👍🎮
Agreed on all accounts! Wonderful game and one of the best soundtracks ever. And I agree with you as well, it's a travesty that we didn't see the original Final Fantasy III & V as normal releases here in the states. The only one I can kind of see why they didn't bring it over is Final Fantasy II since that is a bit... rough. But still would have preferred them all!
@@Bitsandglory that's right. 😀👍🎮
Objectively, this is the best FF game in the mainline series (yes, even compared to FF7 as the cascade of minigames weakens that one). My emotional connection to FF4 will always keep that one as my favorite of the series, but I can't deny that FF6 is objectively a masterpiece of an RPG, especially where the characters and story are involved. As a player, I still prefer the Job system overall (which FF Tactics mastered), but when characters have their own unique abilities not replicated anywhere else (aside from Gogo-types, that is), it makes it easier to connect with characters on a mechanical level.
Sorry I missed this video Bits. I have been disconnecting myself from the intarwebs for the last few weeks and missed this.
Job system definitely lends itself to more flexibility & replayability, for sure. It's just a shame that FFIII & FFV don't wow me incredibly, otherwise I'd be chomping at the bit to revisit. But with that being said the first FF & FFT scratch that itch for me! But yeah, I would wager it's going to be hard to dethrone FFVI in my eyes... but we'll see as hopefully I finished up 7-10 before the end of this year!
@@Bitsandglory Yeah, FF1 has been my go-to for the FF Job system outside of Tactics. It's the most simple, yet the most effective use of it. And it's the best iteration of my favorite Job ever: Red Mage! Well, okay, FF14's Red Mage is kind of interesting and unique. And I did play Red Mage (and subclassed White Mage) a lot in FF11 back in the early 2000s.
I'd love to try some of those modded ROMs that add new Jobs and such for FF1, but I'm kind of a dunce when it comes to that stuff. I'm lucky getting the Elden Ring Seamless Mod installed was easy enough with the mod creator's instructions. :)
@@LordSephleon ROM patching is pretty easy, if you need help just hit me up on Discord or wherever! I actually have my eye on a pretty unique FF1 hacks I hope to tackle in the future!
@@Bitsandglory Thanks! I'll keep that in mind, though it'll be quite some time before I go down that path. Currently in the endgame of Octopath Traveler 2 (over 100 hours), and still have some others on my list.
10/10.. shit maybe I need to play this one 🤔
It's a truly GOATed RPG. As Jimmy said in the comments, it's a bit easy - but difficulty is often trivial in RPGs since you usually can counter it by just grinding. But yeah, IMO it's a deserved score. At WORST it's a 9/10.
no maybe about it. don't skip dialogue and i am sure you'll be moved by the end
Felt it was way too easy
Eh, most RPGs are in reality as long as you want to grind. Chrono Trigger is even “easier”, but is still GOATed.
Ultima breaks the game
@@CosmicCosmo1 Absolutely. Final Fantasy VI isn't a hard game, especially with Ultima + X-Magic. But it's not something uncommon to the series or RPGs in general. Final Fantasy V becomes a Gil tossing, Bahamut, mime fest. Final Fantasy II, for as hard as it is, the Blood Sword makes the final boss a complete joke, etc. There's usually always something that can be abused in nearly any RPG, along with traditional grinding.
@BitsAndGlory I just recently played the pixel remastered version and you can really fly through this game with the auto battle feature at 1.5x speed especially after getting Ultima and X magic. Very fun game though definitely the pinnacle of the FF franchise in my eyes. Everything came together for them i this one. The story is still the best and such an upgrade from FF5's abysmal story. They really nailed that component of the game.
@@CosmicCosmo1 I can only imagine how fast it would be with those features haha. But yeah, completely agreed about the story step up from Final Fantasy V. I like V, but that really wasn't it's strong suit. I actually feel like that's been a huge flaw in the series. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy III & Final Fantasy V have pretty weak stories. It's almost like the games that had the job classes / routes, they spent too much time working on that aspect.
