Now it's clear to me! Great vid.
I loved this vid!! I actually owned a buckskin for 9 years, but never specifically knew the difference between a dun and buckskin. This was really interesting, thanks!

thank you, very helpful
When I was young I owned a "zebra" dun named Happy. The good old big sky days!
Echo is stunning!
It's so cute when he turned to look at you ❤
Couldn’t tell at first until I saw that tell-tale dorsal stripe! Good video 👍🏻
A buckskin is also a bay with just one cream gene. If it were two cream genes he'd be a Perlino (even paler!).
Thanks a lot. Very informative. Both beautiful horses.
Yay! I got it right! (Probably because I took care of a Dun fox trotter but I wasn't sure if I was told wrong lol) this is very helpful though.
Very cool, I have a horse out of Holleywood jac 86. He is a well marked Red Dun. I new nothing about Duns when we got him. Thank this was nice
I didn't know that before; thanks!
Thank you so much.
The obvious difference is the dorsal stripe which signifies dun factor.
Hey, my favorite trainer with my favorite breed and favorite 2 colors of horses.
my horse is a dun and she also has the dorsal stripe and the faint zebra stripes on her legs
I love horses my favourite animal
Gus is so adorable!
I wanna steal him. :P
yes we always called them lineback duns. I didn't know about the frosting though.
This perfectly answered my questions. Thank you very much! Now I need to look and see if you have a video explaining the difference between red roan and sorrel. I read the roan has more white hair running through it but it would be nice to actually see what they're talking about.
sorrel is just another word for chestnut afaik. some use it to refer to brighter/lighter-colored chestnuts, and chestnut for horses that have darker mane hair than their body but are not bay (no dark points elsewhere on the horse). but that difference is pretty fuzzy and for the most part superficial, it's really up to your personal interpretation. popcorn (one of the horses featured often on this channel) is what i would consider a sorrel/chestnut.
red roans are a loooot different. they usually will have a pretty fair amount of frosting on the body of the horse, with the "points" remaining chestnut colored. imagine a siamese cat, the effect is similar (but not always so significant!)
Sorrel is just the older term for chestnut. It's medieval.
I understand the newest trend is to call them red horses. Sheesh!
Hmmmm I guess my horse is a sun and I always thought she was a buttermilk buckskin 🤣
1st- buckskin. 2nd- dun.
Can I know
How many different colour phenotypes are possible from a mating between two Buckskin Dun horses?
I sm so confused with mine. He has the frosting on the mane, as well as the lines on the leg but he is missing that line on the back… would he still be a dun?!🤔
I had them swapped😊
buckskins have strip down the back they are tan color with black points and dark mane and tail some have zebra stripes on legs.
I think my horses just have confusing colors 🤷♀️
Buckskin
2nd is Dun
My horses son looks like a perlino but maybe he’s not 💁♀️ idk at this point 😂
Um my dun does not have strips and she isn’t a buckskin….
Got it right new ra ra
Sun is like brindle in a pee bull
Echo is a buckskin, and Gus is a dun
more deer color
Duns are a grayish white roan. Most buckskins usually have a black stripe down their back and 4 black socks up to their knee and they’re more of a golden honey tan than pale. Much more beautiful than a dun in my opinion. I love that black vertical stripe down their backs they’re one of the only few breeds that have it naturally. Very distinguishing and handsome on a saddle horse
Since I was 5 years old
Line down the spine of the horse...buckskin..all other dun
Plain and simple....
Get to the point..! needless jabber jabber jabber...
