What about the connection to the tribe of Benyamin and how they had to capture brides after they behaved so badly the other tribes almost wiped them out? I was told that this is the origin of Tu B'Av. (You can find the story at the end of Judges.) Anyway, the chag was Monday.

Hellow! I was wondering if you guys had another channel where you guy answer general questions.. I have one that i have always wanted an answer for.. What is the Sabbath? I have always wanted to know the meaning of the fourth commandment. Why was it put as one of the 10 commandment?
Why does the commandment starts with remember the sabbath day?
I am hispanic and when i read the ten commandment, some versions translate to Sabado wich is Saturday or sabatico, wich also means rest.. What type of rest does thia commandment talks about..

In Israel they shutdown everything like Sunday in catholic countries. You cannot spend money or go to work...like in Israel all construction stops. You can't light a fire(wood burning, coal, gas or turn on a electric oven). It's real significance is keeps track of time. All along the southern Mediterranean coast Jew lite big bonfires BEFORE the sabbath so that each town westward knew that Jews were still existing and vigilant in their Jewish neighbors to the east all they way back to ancient Israel so that all Jews were synchronized in time. Our Talmud (post bible commentary written over 'bout 1,000 years) has a huge section (called a TRACTATE) about more specific household task banned. While it has a religious component you are required to have a candle lite peaceful family gathering or romantic (for husband and wife or girl/boy friend) Meal called the sabbat dinner with Wine. This dinner starts the holiday. Then on to a Sabbath Service that served as impromptu census of each community.

Ok.. But were those restrictions followed by Jesus too? Since they are part of the ten commandments, should the christians also follow the same Sabbath? The jews have the right day of worship since God was the one that gave them the ten commandments. I have been seeing that since there has been many natural disasters recently, the churches want to get together and have sunday as a day of prayer.. In some country the pope has urge for a sunday law to keep and it seems that the climate change he has been wanting to urge people to understand, leads to having a day for the family to be together and go to church.. That day is sunday. The pope has announced it in several latin american countries.. And is trying to introduce it in the usa..
Why is sunday the day many people rest and not saturday the day the jews rest and keep holly? Their Sabbath is the original day the fourth cammandmant talks about. God spoke to them, and i assume that sarurday is the seventh day, the sabath.. Spanish translation is literal to saturday in many spanish bibles..

First, the names for the days of the week are very late invention (ie the Romans named them). Second the hebrew calendar was also a late invention (after 500BC) following both the Lunar and solar cycles. Jews are the only people required to follow ALL of the commandments. Lastly, the Sunday day of rest was only invented by the Christians by edict to differ from the Jewish Sabbath. Btw,,,the great Spanish inquisition and final expulsion occurred on Tish B'av (tish the month and B'av (i think its 7) our 'bad' day like your Friday the 13th

also.. the latest WANACRY world wide cyber attack that occurred on Fri/Sat did not affect Israel because not only does everybody has Sat off but also Friday afternoon (to prepare (ie shop and cook) for the sabbath

See.. That was what i thought too.. Men changed the day of worship to sunday.. Many versus in the christian bible defend the saturday as the Day of worship... From what ive been reading God intends christians to follow the ten commandments..
      Here is one of them..
      Ezekiel 20 12
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I amthe LORD that sanctify them.”
      Isaiah Chapter 58
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].
      Luke 4:16
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,
      Corinthians 11-1
1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
This has convinced me that sunday has not been the proper day of worship.. Ive beem searching for the answer for a looking time and i feel that i have gotten a response to my question and prayer. I we all make errors but i see that the law should never bee changed.. Does not matter if the person that decided to change the commandment of God had a high authority in this world. He has no right to change it.
I don't know if you are a believer but you helped me out.. Thank you!

To be fair this "holiday" is likely an urban legend and has little to do with the culture of Israel but wanting to create a "Jewish Valentines day". This "event" took place in the exile after the destruction of the Temple which it just seems questionable to me that this would be safe and healthy to do.

According to the Mishna, Tu B'Av was a joyous holiday in the days of the Temple in Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the grape harvest. Yom Kippur marked the end of the grape harvest. On both dates, the unmarried girls of Jerusalem dressed in white garments, and went out to dance in the vineyards (Babylonian Talmud, tractate Ta'anit 30b-31a).[2] That same section in the Talmud states that there were no holy days as happy for the Jews as Tu B'Av and Yom Kippur.[3] The holiday celebrated the wood-offering brought in the Temple (see Nehemiah 13:31). Josephus refers to it as the Feast of Xylophory ("Wood-bearing").[4]
While the Jews wandered in the desert for forty years, female orphans without brothers could only marry within their tribe, to prevent their father's inherited land in the Land of Israel from passing on to other tribes. On the fifteenth of Av of the fortieth year, this ban was lifted.
That same year, the last of the generation of the sin of the spies, which had been forbidden to enter the Promised Land, found that they were not destined to die. For forty years, every Tisha B'av night, the Jews made graves for themselves in which they slept on Tisha B'Av; every year a proportion of them died. In the 40th year, the fifteen thousand who had remained from the first generation went to sleep in the graves and woke up the next day to their surprise. Thinking they made a mistake with the date, they did this until they reached Tu B'Av and saw a full moon. Only then did they know they were allowed to live.

@@greglauren8876 It just shows how ignorate you are. It was the Bnot Zelapchad who requested that because their father had no sons that they wanted to preserve their fathers name and of course to do that you would have to marry someone in your own tribe. It had nothing to do with being an orphan. I am glad you can read the Talmud but think a little. The Rabbis take the place of everyone's father. That is us imitating other religions. To them the father doesn't matter but even men who make mistake their should be mercy don't you think.

@@yeshuachristo2447 There is nothing in the torah about a holiday of Love. Not critical of her either. Just saying. Jews were in exile for 2,000 years and of course they have imitated other practices and sometimes they don't even realize it. That is all.
