I was so nervous when I saw this because as a queer woman KJ Charles is like a niche, precious thing in my particular section of the community. So I was so pleased you enjoyed her even if the rest of her stuff isn't for you (though I do think you might actually enjoy the Simon Feximel one as it's a paranormal mystery). Slightly more bummed about Everytime I Go on Vacation as I just bought that...
I had the same feeling....at the start...I just kept saying...."Please dont say anything negative".....😂😂 Because I love KJ Charles...and I second your recommendation.
I'm so happy you finally read a KJ Charles book! She is one of my favourite authors and I recommended her earlier in the year when you asked for subscribers' recs! Most of her books are mysteries, historical with a mixture of queer characters and incredibly well written. I'm glad you gelled with her writing style!
Just dropped by to say I was also OBSESSED with the Nancy Drew games as a kid (and still till this day, TBH). Maybe that's why I enjoy your channel/reads so much!
@@bmvanloo ....I didn't know they were available on steam...I might finally have a reason to try that out! My little laptop isn't able to play the discs anymore. I don't have a desktop computer
@@kelleyeasterling They do! The older ones typically go on sale when Steam has a sale, too! And I think they have a few bundles, making them even cheaper.
I actually think you might enjoy the A Charm of Magpie series and The Will Darling Adventures from K.J. Charles. In my opinion the mystery element is stronger than the romance in both of those series, personally.
I absolutely agree with this! Especially A Charm of Magpies. It does have a romantic angle but I think the atmosphere and sus magic situation would be appealing to someone who likes a good mystery
I love love love KJ Charles! I’m currently working my way through her backlog and I was so excited to see an indie author get the nod. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I second the recommendation(s) that you might like The Magpie Lord/A Charm of Magpies. It’s not officially a murder mystery but it totally is 😂
I once got really invested in a certain librarian at my library’s staff choices because every time I picked his up they were bangers… imagine my heartbreak when I found out he was copying Goodreads reviews 💔💀
as soon as Heartstopper was mentioned I was hoping it would be If You'll Have Me! it was one of my favourites of last year and it's criminally underrated and just so adorable 🥹
Weird suggestion, but you might enjoy following KJ Charles on Goodreads. She writes great reviews that are so helpful when deciding if a book will match your reading taste. She also reads a terrifyingly large amount of books so there are always new reviews to read even if you're not super interested in reading the book she's reviewing.
Death in the spires was a 5 star read for me! I picked it up as I love dark academia, not knowing anything about the author ( so low expectations) and I was so surprised! I LOVED it! Great recommendation!
Pausing the video just to comment this: I read a KJ Charles book earlier this year (January 2024) and I loved it! I was so surprised to see a book by her here! Now I want to read Death in the Spires so bad! Lol the only reason I did read that book is because I really do adore historical romance but a mystery from this author sounds great too!
Excellent work by the Peoria (if I heard them right) librarians! Fun video! Will seek out "Death in the Spires" after hearing your enthusiasm for it, Meg -- thanks to you and the librarians! 😊
I haven't been as up to date with the videos as I used to be, so I don't know if this is already on your radar, but The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett is a very interesting fantasy murder mystery with some great interviews.
I really want to read everything I go on vacation some dies ever since Kayla read it and I was hoping you’d enjoy it but now I’m unsure if I should read it 😬🏝️
Did our sweet baby Angel Dida have to wear a cone of shame at all after getting spayed? I feel like she would get into some extra trouble with a cone on haha 😈 I love what a little troublemaker she is
I really love Finlay Donovan series, but I couldn't get into Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies. That book is so pretentious and horrible and nothing like Finlay Donovan, even though it tried so hard to be. I don't like any characters, the mystery is just stupid

They seem so passionate about their jobs, yay for them!
When you said we had Patreon members who are also librarians I knew they were gonna knock it outta the park with this one 🎊🥳 🎉

Your first „Year of Recs“ video feels like yesterday!!
Nothing warms my heart like a librarian sharing their love for books with others, especially kids 💗

I got so excited the second Death in the Spires got mentioned! It is one of my favorite books of the year, so I'm glad you enjoyed.

I still have some of my CD roms!

They both did such a good job of giving away just enough of each plot to entice you to read it! So smart!

What a great idea to get book recs from librarians on your Patreon, I love that 🥹🫶🏻
I'm wearing your Winterween shirt in the second clip!
This is such a great idea and fun that librarians sent a video to you to get book recommendations. Happy reading!!
as a huge kj charles fan, i am excited ❤
the fact that nobody talks about the book called Hidden Signs of the Universe by Olivia Cooper speaks volumes about how people are stuck in a trance.

Yeah, she is one of few author on GR who gives her real opinion in her reviews....
Great video, your kittens gotten so big now 🥹🥰
I LOVE this idea! Very excited to watch this… Great idea, Meg!

You *might* like the Will Darling Adventures by KJ Charles??? There is romance but there's also a lot of mystery and action too!! Highly recommend. 🥰
I've read and loved a handful of KJ Charles books and now you've inspired me to read some more!

i clicked so fast! i love how none of these are books I've heard of but still sound awesome
Love love love this video idea!!!😊
Can we get a 2nd channel where Meg just plays Nancy Drew games? 😂
so happy this was such a successs!!

Oh my god Peoria librarians in a meg video?! Never expected that but I love it.
I loved Every time I Go On Vacation!! 😍😍😍

ahhh my boyfriend grew up near/went to college in peoria where these ladies work!! fun little coincidence
I had an audio arc of death in the spires and enjoyed it
Ah Meg! I think we were in Bath at the same time 😂
I'd love to do this but social anxiety is so real
Many libraries have online forms you can fill out.
I was gonna recommend this too, you can always email your library and see what happens
have you already asked chatgpt?
Nancy Drew Games mention! 🔥🚨🔥🚨🔥🚨🔥🚨🔛🔝
K J Charles next book release in 2025 is “All of us Murderers” sounds like a murder mystery
