Pride and Prejudice is so brilliant. You can know everything about the story, have been familiar with it for your whole life, and the writing will surpass your expectations. And yes, I adore Jane Austen and yet her story is tragic. 😭
I recommend Sense and Sensibility first as it feels the most similar to Pride and Prejudice, but my second favorite as far as writing is Persuasion! It’s quicker and a bit more moody :)

The only Jane Austen I've read is Northanger Abbey, which I feel like is kind of the "off the beaten path" one. I read it for a class my very first semester of college, so it's certainly been a minute! But I remember the social commentary being so sharp and funny! I might need to jump on the Austen train too.

I am coming here simply to say I finished Somewhere Beyond the Sea earlier today and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I know there are many who feel the messaging is "heavy handed" and "preachy" but given the state of American politics in particular - it absolutely felt like a balm for my soul and was the perfect end to my reading year

Ive been enjoying Anna Dorn's books: Exalted and Vagablonde. She does unlikable characters pretty well and theyre very millennial-coded. [I just turned 30 so im a younger millennial and i think im part of her target audience.]

Agreed! Plus the sense and sensibility book Emma wrote about filming the movie is also so good. It's a script but then has diary entries. I loved it!
