Alot of "pros" would be out of a job if the gameplay wasn't as assisted and skill cancelling was removed. Most of them aren't elite level manual defenders and rely on getting to a certain spot to do abuse a certain mechanic to score.

Im playing since 2003, i was always pretty high up the online leaderboards back in the good days, i stepped away from Fifa for a couple years but came back in F18. I dont think F18 was a bad Fifa ( but the servers let it down ) but yea you could tell already that Fifa gameplay was going in a wrong direction. As youve said, over the past couple years Fifa has gone away from smart outplaying your opponent to an abusive clown fiesta that supports bad play and carries to many wrong decisions. I was always just someone who outplayed his opponents, i barely use any skill moves and if only the most basic ones which have been in the game forever. For one WL because i was so mad about the game i used the Bridge Move in F21 and guess what, i got my best WL ever in months. I stopped using it again after and struggled again with where i usually see myself at. I actually see myself as the perfect example how a bad game can rek a good player. I know im not top tier but i do know, also because i used to be in contact with a couple really good players, that my understanding for the game and what mechanics are good or bad is really good .. but the abusive, non logical and non readable clown fiesta gameplay reks a smart mind .. as seen in a lot of your videos because youre a really good player yourself. As youve also said in your video tho, we know why EA doesnt bother to much fixing the gameplay / the servers .. because all these bad things give bad / worse players more highlights which they in a good game would never get. Theres only a few % in the community who actually know what theyre doing and going by the Elite percentages its probably only about 5%, the rest are "noobs", just decent players and theres a shit ton of merchants because unfortunatly you can do really really well in Fifa nowadays just by being good at abusing mechanics even up to the highest ranks. Heh, might be nothing but the last time I could compete with Silvers against special card teams was FIFA 17. Now, even 80 rated players in FIFA 22 are practically useless against pay-to-win teams. It's ridiculous. The bounce backs are insane, and inconsistent passes.
For me is the number one problem, In this fifa if my opponent defends only with the cdm’s i quit the game also if i’m winning or the game is a draw and I know it’s toxic but it takes away all the little fun you can have with this gameplay

Don't even make that joke. From gameplay hell yeah FIFA 17 was hella fun. But from a career mode stand point it pales to anything in comparison to FIFA 08 or anything since, it is nowhere near as deep as you'd expect from a career mode of any sort.
I don’t understand why they push a competitive FIFA in the first place. It’s goes against the core ideals that make the game fun. The skill gap has gotten smaller and smaller, rewarding you less for nuisanced, smart, possession based gameplay. The game actively encourages playing “anti-football” which is very demoralizing considering your opponent doesn’t deserve to win that way. In general, it’s made the game less enjoyable to play which has done the exact opposite to what they thought simplifying the game would. I have played less FIFA than I ever have the past two FIFAs (I haven’t played FUT since 20) and that’s not a coincidence.
I think that ea knows that…look at what they have done with rivals and fut champions in fifa 22. They want you to play less and grind the menu. I remember in older fifas up until 19 I actually wanted to play the game, now because it’s unrewarding as hell i struggle to turn on my console.

I play fifa 15 for 2 years in career mode and it's so much fun testing different tactics and players, because when your players really press, your defenders line up as they should and attackers are constantly moving the fun begins. I also noticed that in the new fifes 21,22 the players move as if they had a bag of coal on their back, they react so slowly to input, by this gameplay seems "dirty", not as clean as in 15, 16, 17
The fact you have to put FIFA 17 on some kind of pedestal tells you all you need to know how bad the game has actually gotten since. We've dropped our standards as a community to the absolute lowest. Absolutely nothing can make me touch any FIFA game ever again. I quit this year without even trying FIFA 22. Soon I will celebrate my first year of FIFA sobriety. And it definitely becomes a lot easier over time. I will not be returning to FIFA 23 or any future FIFA if EA doesn't fix fundamental parts of the gameplay like passing or tackling. This game is all about pattern recognition instead of decision making. It has nothing to do with actual football FFS!

I'm constantly thinking that while I play. How can my opponents get away with certain types of passes that don't make any sense, passes that I'm clearly expecting and marking. People think that skill gap is the ability of playing FIFA like Tekken nowadays. Chain a couple of combos together, skill canceling, shot cancel, offside trap, etc. Unfortunately I also have to play like this in order to have some success and it feels like a different kind of game, not football. It makes me sad to like football so much that I feel compelled to eventually come back to this bad gameplay assisted game. This and the lack of quality alternatives on the market..

You are right about everything here, but theres one thing youre missing and that is the fact that when EA went from 16 to 17, and from ignite to frostbite, more than 50% of the skillgap was removed, and while FIFA 16 had the most balanced skill gap and the most balanced esports qualifier before and after, 17 just moved it all straight into its pay 2 win FUT scene, for one reason alone, and that was to make a shit ton of money. Ever since then both the game play and the whole damn esports scene has been about that one singular thing: make more money. And anyone who says otherwise have either never played a real competitive game in their life or ever played football - or both. Because this game isnt about either. Its about selling units and FIFA points, in the most abusive, deceptive way I have ever witnessed - ruining the whole game and thrown real football literally out of the window in the process! I agree with you more than ever. When people say FIFA 22 has a skill gap, they're delusional, this game has no skill gap, that isn't a terrible thing tho. See I personally think FUT Champs kind of destroyed FIFA, FIFA had its issues back then too but the focus was on fun, FIFA 22 can be fun, it's the most fun FIFA since FIFA 18. But the competitive structure brought meta nerds and guys like Tekkz shot to fame, what that did was give birth to meta rats on yt/twitch. No one likes grinding FIFA, FIFA used to be about trying fun cards out. FIFA 22 has some of that, you get way more variety of cards without tons of grind. But the problem is trying them online isn't fun, because you face people absolutely sweating their asses off. We either need FIFA 16-18 or we need FIFA 13-15, this shit where they infuse both is what has ruined FIFA. eFootball has its issues, but at least it's devoid of the structure of Gameplay FIFA has. FIFA is extremely painful sometimes, you do the same passes and skills for 30 matches and random shit happens. In PES, so much dumb shit happens that you really CAN'T do anything consitently. Which can lead to chaotic but fun games.
I think the biggest problem was when they changed from divisions to rivals in fifa 19. In fifa 17, although you already had fut champs, it felt more like if it was it own thing, separated from divisions, so you had one competitive and one casual mode inside fut. With rivals, both modes became full of grinding
The fact that the game goes towards certain formations should be a red flag for development team. 4-1-2-1-2 shouldn’t work as well as it does. The ai on overloads is way to good.
Failed because really its never been solely about the best player, its about skill level combined with who can spend the most time on the game and who can spend the most money. And lets not get started on how Fifa has become a game of who can abuse mechanics the best. Not played FUT this year but previous years in the beginning of the FUT cycle I can go 25-28 wins on WL, then you start hitting people who have spent thousands already. I don’t have the time and will not spend a single £ on FUT and it was probably needed to get to the next level. Finding the best Fifa player in the world would be a free entry tournament, everyone has the same team rating. Even then tactics, AI and RNG should have about 5% impact on a result were in Fifa its probably about 50%.
During a lifetime of playing and growing my understanding of football, I’ve fallen in love with the game. 2 years of playing FUT and it has me switching to Fortnite. That’s how bad FUT 22 is..
I saw an interview with a pro and they asked him what's his favourite skill move. He said shot cancel, like really it's not even a real skill. FIFA has never been perfect but I think people now blame skills for what's happend and I don't think it's the case. I've loved skilling since FIFA 12 but these games don't reward well executed moves just broken ones. Spring the same ones over and over. You can tell a game is bad by the type of goal you concede, if it's the same goal over and over again there's clearly something wrong. El Tornado Crosses and Volley to non stop bridging.
Fifa 11 and 12 were balanced. As I got older I stopped playing fifa as much as I did as a kid for obvious reasons and when I picked it up years later I was astonished by how much it had changed especially the defending. FUT has been absolutely ruined. I remember the days where as long as you were a decent player at fifa and good at trading (buy low sell high) you could have a really good team and even if somebody went the pay to win route you could demolish them, Now it’s just who’s got the most to spend lol. Mind you, I’m not the greatest fifa player but I’m decent. I picked up fifa 22 on a whim and got to division 1 in 3 days with only 3 losses. I’ll put one loss down to insanely terrible lag, the second loss was that fifa cheese where poor passing and dribbling goes unpunished and they get a jammy goal anyways. Only one loss was a really close game and my opponent simply won the match fair and square with no BS. Seasons used to be competitive but it seems that everybody flocked to FUT🤷🏾♂️
Its not only that the gameplay got worse but that the intentions of players changed in a way that is just bad for the game itself. There are a few players that play for the sake of playing. Way to many play just for rewards and some seem to get fun out of pissing opponents of. Sadly every year EA provides more and more mechanics to do that. I don't know if intentional or if they are just too lazy and stupid to program a decent game.
True but I still think good gameplay is key. Its the fact that gameplay became so bad that makes playing the rewards the inky reason to play. I can't speak for everyone but its gotten so bad for me that having fun is borderline impossible. If you could put Giroud as a CF and Rodri as a CDM with lindeloff at CB and get the same results of someone who has Mbappe, Marchinios and Renato Sanchez then there is no point of spending money on the game anymore

Never played a more frustrating game than FIFA. I played fut last year for the first time in years and got Div 1, finished Gold 1 and very close to elite, but the amount of times I was literally screaming at the game because of some random BS really wasn’t worth it. I’m still annoyed at the hours I put into it last year. I’m free now though!
I knew that some mechanics were being dumbed down, i'm and oldschool fifa 11 crack head who used to get into practice for hours and absolute demolish everyone on set pieces, and tekkers, and different ways of shooting, the last time I played a fifa( which was fifa 20) i always missed my shots because all the game asked was for a straight circle, no modificators, and not aiming the ball at the far post, if i just shoot it straight it will be a goal, no need for creativity or resources, just shoot the damn thing straight smh

I could not agree more. Especially on the aspect of taking advantage of all those broken mechanics! Even though there was always something being overpowered (usually pace) the gameplay always used to be better and more realistic than what we have today. The skill gap should be creating situations and not spaming broken actions.
what also underlines your explanation is that in the beginning of this years game the comp. mast. swi. didn't work, so the game actually was still assisted but duping people into thinking it wasn't. And now as soon as they changed master switch to work, they made the IG controls so assisted, more assisted, it didn't matter if the switch was "working" now as it made the same difference, suggesting it worked before when it didn't, same difference basically.

I stopped playing FIFA after 17 because I found that game a bit too much with the 40 game champs set up lol, but i bought 22 and was amazed how shit it is, this is actually worse than of the old FIFA's even FIFA 12 with its genuinely broken finesse shots, but I will say, early on in the year just after the game released there was a sense of skill in the play, you actually had to be smart about how you go about the game but they slowly bastardised over the year
All FIFA's got worse after the money from fut champs, starting pouring in, you need a decent team too overcome the crap gameplay. The frostbite killed it.

But I won in Fifa 17 and I still think it was an AI assisted mess? The main difference for me is that both defense and offense were heavily assisted and the AI was cracked. Personally I think Fifa 18 was a considerably better game. That has nothing to do with results or with an agenda, that's just how I feel about the game. My most consistent results I had in Fifa 20 and that was the worst and most boring game that I have ever played. 19 and 21 especially failed as a football game, 20 failed as a videogame (and entertainment product) in general. Fifa esport didn't just fall of because of the game, it also fell of, because EA didn't give a damn anymore and didn't even use it as promotional content. These days nobody knows when a qualifier is on and EA definetely doesn't let anyone know.

I think one of the reasons why Fifa will never be a competitive esport is because the pay to win aspect. Look at all the top esports out there, you can spend money on those games but it doesn't effect anything in game its all cosmetic. Nothing wrong with it untill the other player has a fair chance to defend the same which is not possible when this game servers have a wide ping gap between 2 players in a match where one player's are moving and responding like messi and other one's all 11 are VVDs who turn like a truck. Even the ai does'nt responds when u have higher ping then ur opponent's. This indeed is the biggest handicap which makes a lot of players feel a lot of matches are scripted but it's nothing more than a ping lottery this game. Fucked up servers that can't take up the load which wasn't the case during FIFA 17. Yes definitely one of the best fifas i've expirienced online. They need to buck up their servers to match up the growing audience,Half of the problems would be solved there itself.

tbh i enjoyed FUT22 in the first 2 weeks a lot. Keepers were useful ( op, but better this way)

The fact you have to put FIFA 17 on some kind of pedestal tells you all you need to know how bad the game has actually gotten since. We've dropped our standards as a community to the absolute lowest. Absolutely nothing can make me touch any FIFA game ever again. I quit this year without even trying FIFA 22. Soon I will celebrate my first year of FIFA sobriety. And it definitely becomes a lot easier over time. I will not be returning to FIFA 23 or any future FIFA if EA doesn't fix fundamental parts of the gameplay like passing or tackling. This game is all about pattern recognition instead of decision making. It has nothing to do with actual football FFS!

People think that skill gap is the ability of playing FIFA like Tekken nowadays. Chain a couple of combos together, skill canceling, shot cancel, offside trap, etc. Unfortunately I also have to play like this in order to have some success and it feels like a different kind of game, not football.

You are right about everything here, but theres one thing youre missing and that is the fact that when EA went from 16 to 17, and from ignite to frostbite, more than 50% of the skillgap was removed, and while FIFA 16 had the most balanced skill gap and the most balanced esports qualifier before and after, 17 just moved it all straight into its pay 2 win FUT scene, for one reason alone, and that was to make a shit ton of money. Ever since then both the game play and the whole damn esports scene has been about that one singular thing: make more money. And anyone who says otherwise have either never played a real competitive game in their life or ever played football - or both. Because this game isnt about either. Its about selling units and FIFA points, in the most abusive, deceptive way I have ever witnessed - ruining the whole game and thrown real football literally out of the window in the process!

I agree with you more than ever. When people say FIFA 22 has a skill gap, they're delusional, this game has no skill gap, that isn't a terrible thing tho. See I personally think FUT Champs kind of destroyed FIFA, FIFA had its issues back then too but the focus was on fun, FIFA 22 can be fun, it's the most fun FIFA since FIFA 18. But the competitive structure brought meta nerds and guys like Tekkz shot to fame, what that did was give birth to meta rats on yt/twitch.
No one likes grinding FIFA, FIFA used to be about trying fun cards out. FIFA 22 has some of that, you get way more variety of cards without tons of grind. But the problem is trying them online isn't fun, because you face people absolutely sweating their asses off.
We either need FIFA 16-18 or we need FIFA 13-15, this shit where they infuse both is what has ruined FIFA.
eFootball has its issues, but at least it's devoid of the structure of Gameplay FIFA has. FIFA is extremely painful sometimes, you do the same passes and skills for 30 matches and random shit happens. In PES, so much dumb shit happens that you really CAN'T do anything consitently. Which can lead to chaotic but fun games.
I think the biggest problem was when they changed from divisions to rivals in fifa 19. In fifa 17, although you already had fut champs, it felt more like if it was it own thing, separated from divisions, so you had one competitive and one casual mode inside fut. With rivals, both modes became full of grinding
The fact that the game goes towards certain formations should be a red flag for development team. 4-1-2-1-2 shouldn’t work as well as it does. The ai on overloads is way to good.

Failed because really its never been solely about the best player, its about skill level combined with who can spend the most time on the game and who can spend the most money.
And lets not get started on how Fifa has become a game of who can abuse mechanics the best.
Not played FUT this year but previous years in the beginning of the FUT cycle I can go 25-28 wins on WL, then you start hitting people who have spent thousands already. I don’t have the time and will not spend a single £ on FUT and it was probably needed to get to the next level.
Finding the best Fifa player in the world would be a free entry tournament, everyone has the same team rating.
Even then tactics, AI and RNG should have about 5% impact on a result were in Fifa its probably about 50%.
Because the Gameplay become less of a priority over ultimate team features.

I saw an interview with a pro and they asked him what's his favourite skill move. He said shot cancel, like really it's not even a real skill. FIFA has never been perfect but I think people now blame skills for what's happend and I don't think it's the case. I've loved skilling since FIFA 12 but these games don't reward well executed moves just broken ones. Spring the same ones over and over. You can tell a game is bad by the type of goal you concede, if it's the same goal over and over again there's clearly something wrong. El Tornado Crosses and Volley to non stop bridging.
Fifa 11 and 12 were balanced. As I got older I stopped playing fifa as much as I did as a kid for obvious reasons and when I picked it up years later I was astonished by how much it had changed especially the defending. FUT has been absolutely ruined. I remember the days where as long as you were a decent player at fifa and good at trading (buy low sell high) you could have a really good team and even if somebody went the pay to win route you could demolish them, Now it’s just who’s got the most to spend lol.
Mind you, I’m not the greatest fifa player but I’m decent. I picked up fifa 22 on a whim and got to division 1 in 3 days with only 3 losses. I’ll put one loss down to insanely terrible lag, the second loss was that fifa cheese where poor passing and dribbling goes unpunished and they get a jammy goal anyways. Only one loss was a really close game and my opponent simply won the match fair and square with no BS.
Seasons used to be competitive but it seems that everybody flocked to FUT🤷🏾♂️

Its not only that the gameplay got worse but that the intentions of players changed in a way that is just bad for the game itself. There are a few players that play for the sake of playing. Way to many play just for rewards and some seem to get fun out of pissing opponents of. Sadly every year EA provides more and more mechanics to do that. I don't know if intentional or if they are just too lazy and stupid to program a decent game.

Never played a more frustrating game than FIFA. I played fut last year for the first time in years and got Div 1, finished Gold 1 and very close to elite, but the amount of times I was literally screaming at the game because of some random BS really wasn’t worth it. I knew that some mechanics were being dumbed down, i'm and oldschool fifa 11 crack head who used to get into practice for hours and absolute demolish everyone on set pieces, and tekkers, and different ways of shooting, the last time I played a fifa( which was fifa 20) i always missed my shots because all the game asked was for a straight circle, no modificators, and not aiming the ball at the far post, if i just shoot it straight it will be a goal, no need for creativity or resources, just shoot the damn thing straight smh

I could not agree more. Especially on the aspect of taking advantage of all those broken mechanics! Even though there was always something being overpowered (usually pace) the gameplay always used to be better and more realistic than what we have today. I stopped playing FIFA after 17 because I found that game a bit too much with the 40 game champs set up lol, but i bought 22 and was amazed how shit it is, this is actually worse than of the old FIFA's even FIFA 12 with its genuinely broken finesse shots, but I will say, early on in the year just after the game released there was a sense of skill in the play, you actually had to be smart about how you go about the game but they slowly bastardised over the year
All FIFA's got worse after the money from fut champs, starting pouring in, you need a decent team too overcome the crap gameplay. The frostbite killed it.

But I won in Fifa 17 and I still think it was an AI assisted mess? The main difference for me is that both defense and offense were heavily assisted and the AI was cracked. Personally I think Fifa 18 was a considerably better game. That has nothing to do with results or with an agenda, that's just how I feel about the game. My most consistent results I had in Fifa 20 and that was the worst and most boring game that I have ever played. 19 and 21 especially failed as a football game, 20 failed as a videogame (and entertainment product) in general.
Fifa esport didn't just fall of because of the game, it also fell of, because EA didn't give a damn anymore and didn't even use it as promotional content. These days nobody knows when a qualifier is on and EA definetely doesn't let anyone know.

I think one of the reasons why Fifa will never be a competitive esport is because the pay to win aspect. Look at all the top esports out there, you can spend money on those games but it doesn't effect anything in game its all cosmetic. Nothing wrong with it untill the other player has a fair chance to defend the same which is not possible when this game servers have a wide ping gap between 2 players in a match where one player's are moving and responding like messi and other one's all 11 are VVDs who turn like a truck. Even the ai does'nt responds when u have higher ping then ur opponent's. This indeed is the biggest handicap which makes a lot of players feel a lot of matches are scripted but it's nothing more than a ping lottery this game. Fucked up servers that can't take up the load which wasn't the case during FIFA 17. Yes definitely one of the best fifas i've expirienced online.
