Scott Hoying Vocal Range (D2 - G5)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Scott Hoying is one of the solists singers of the Pentatonix group. He has an amazing technique, with solid low notes, strong high notes in chest voice, amazing control of the melismas and very connected falsettos.
Voice Type: Baritone.
Lowest note: D2 (I Should Tell Ya Momma On You)
Highest note in chest voice: G#4 (Love Lockdown)
Highest note in falsetto: G5 (Performing "The Chicken Song")
Vocal Range: (D2 - G5) 3 Octaves, 2 tones and 1 semitone.
This is the vocal range demonstrated by Scott, maybe he could hit lower or higher notes.
You can find me on facebook: FunVocalRange
He belts an A4 in his wake me up cover and the always be my baby/baby i covers
His falsetto is so on point tho!
IKR!
I wish I had falsetto like that but unfortunately mine is juts weak and soft :(
With all the sources and realistic facts we got here so far, it's safe to say he's baritone. A smart one, so he can switch up which part of his range he needs to utilize for the song.
With that said, for anyone else that's a baritone here, you should pick up observing other popular baritones on YT, and take notes on their approach to certain notes and the textures of their voice. If you just got here, definitely list Hoying on your observation list. Next up, I'd say John Legend and Aloe Blacc - both baritones, but different textures - both utilize the full lengths of their range and deliver power on the higher end.
For those on the Ed Sheeran bandwagon, don't even bother. Voice-wise, he's not really up to par with the more solid vocalists out there but no doubt is he a great overall musician. He's a true lyrical baritone btw. And to those who say Ed is a tenor, then watch some of his videos where his voice cracks. A TRUE tenor would NEVER EVER crack around Middle C. Actually, in the classical world, a "tenor" who cracks around Middle C should be ashamed of themselves lol.
He can hit D2? Awesome.
BigRedCatFTW It's throat note.
I love that he's a baritone just like me. Shows that you don't have to be a tenor to have great range :)
In fact, we have exactly the same range0.o
If you truly have the same range as Scott Hoying, you can call yourself a lucky bastard and enter a talent show.
Ella Here well mine is Eb2-G5 so I guess I'm gonna enter a talent show
It's also notable that Scott can probably go higher and lower, but doesn't want to risk it in live performances.
sivan i doubt that tbh
exactly!
Probably not lower than a D2, he was lowering his larynx to get that down there...
Baritone, Baritone Baritone!!!!!! This guy has provided proof that Baritones can move mountains once again and for all.
This is exactly my vocal range. Talk about relevant searches, great video!
He has such an amazing vocal range. He can barely sing base though. (As he did in standing by). He can sing high notes to. So amazing!
You need to take an ela class
***** a what class? I know that's not that amazing. He only covers 3 octaves. Mitch and Scott both sound very cool. Even if it's only 3 octaves. It doesn't even sound like Mitch in his vocal range video when he hits his lowest note!
Ginger Wallace English language arts class. Your spelling is so bad
***** Oh ok! Lol I'm 11 so it's a little bad, I have better spelling, and grammar now!
+Ginger Wallace He has 2.3 octaves. Falsetto doesn't count tward full voice range. 3 octaves is actually very good. 2 octaves is average he's in the middle. Still very good
In chest voice you missed a couple notes. In This Christmas he sings a high B and in Call Me Mabye with Luke Edgemon he sings a high C, and both of those are without falsetto. Amazing amazing voice.
Thanks for posting this video!
didnt know he could do D2, i thought it wasnt him haha
Plus, now, add in the entirety of Pusher Love Girl...Haha...
I agree with the current top comment...Amazing video...Thanks for putting it together! Makes me appreciate Pentatonix all the more...
You can actually hear the extreme amount of strain and tension above f4, he's just a baritone screaming outside of his limits. He doesn't know that shortens his vocal life. His voice is nice, hopefully he'll decide to get some lessons
Having a Grammy has nothing to do with vocal technique. I am a Pentatonix fan who wants to see him do well. And yes, you can literally hear the grit when he loses the technical aspect for stylistic choices. It's taxing on a baritone, being one myself who belts and sings classically. It's hard to bring the reigns in up there. It's something we all have to work at, including Scott.
Suggesting that someone gets voice lessons is not suggesting that they don't know what they are doing, so let's not twist words here. Scott regularly belts up to the G5 area. Some of their most popular songs have belts in that area for him. I'm speaking as a baritone voice of very similar range. Singing up there is hard to do a lot, and some do it well. As a young baritone, I wouldn't expect him to navigate that passage of his voice perfectly, just as I don't. Notice I didn't comment about his runs or riffs because they're spot on. The most risky part of a voice is its upper belt, because it can do the most damage relatively quicker than anything else. Scott has a grit sometimes that may sound soulful but is unhealthy, and will wear on him in the long run, which is why I suggested lessons. There are coaches that specialize in that type of vocalization and can teach you technique that will have you singing those notes into your seventies, and later. God I hate when people argue with the fact that he sounds soulful. I also hate when people try to argue with little to no musical experience.
^ exactly. For a baritone like Scott, his belts may sound very strong, but it just sounds so pained. It's even clear that Scott hates belting that high obviously shown in the live performances Natural disaster
Wilford Kelly wow, so i am right he strains those F#4 but i think few F4 too. but you are more experienced,so i trust you hahaha. and that F#5 tho...i can't stand to hear more. it's just really hurt.
I was doing scales and I did D2-G5... but like i can't even compare hes so good.
wow yay another baritone....... he is a very unusual baritones cuz baritones Ik usually dont have such agile voices.....
you should research on that
Noelle Panda o for sure hes a baritone, am just saying he should research on the "don't have agile voices" part, cause that isn't true, it just depends on if you train your voice or not and for how long.
Misael V. I just don't know many agile baritones but that's because baritones are kind of rarer in pop music than tenors haha hence I have very few references of pop baritones ^ ^
KitsuneMale o your only referring to pop? well yea i guess lol, agile as in how though? range? cause if so go beyond pop :D check ken tamplin for example, steelheart shes gone.
Misael V. Well I mean agile as in, able to do vocal runs well lol
And people say he hasn't got range!
Alright so I just listened to "that spot" in Call Me Mabye about 4 times, and you are right. I think I was just convinced Scott was singing the high C before just because of the way he attacks the mic. But I followed his voice through that part and I was able to pick out the G#. So yes, you are totally correct!
Amazing Video, and an Amazing singer as well.
So glad you put this up. :) So great.
I totally agree!
The vocal range is small, but the control is insane!
Pretty sure he hits an A4 in chest voice in Hit the Road Jack on PTX Vol 2, might want to add that in there.
I thought he was a tenor, but now I know forsure he is definitely a full on baritone. Crazy!!!!!!
The only time Scott has been a tenor was before puberty.
I was really looking for the high notes in Video Killed the Radio Star (those riffs they do near the very end) and one very specific part of Aha that he does right before Mitch sings "nicest sweetest utmost in everything" that I haven't seen anyone point out yet. Dude's a beast! Love Scotty!
at the end of Pentatonix's "Frozen Medley" video in the bloopers, he does a couple full sounding C#5's
He is amazing! His lower register is sick! Loved him on "The Sing Off!"
This is incredible. And impressive. Love me some Scott !
you've made one for scott too?? oh.. i wish i had the time to make it.. haha.. cool.. :)
omgomgomg.
I Should Tell Your Momma on You... That's D2??!! I thought I was hitting the note when I was actually singing D3..I guess Scott was singing that note an octave lower and I never noticed. lol
The high B is amazing!
The high C was from Luke Edgemon, Scott sang a high G#.
I love his lower register.
Belo timbre, grande voz!!
Gostei do video tb, muito bem montado e bem procurados os arquivos rs
Damn, his technique has improved a lot since the Sing-Off
Thanks for watch!
Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems you forgot an octave... If you play Scotts notes on the piano, taking your D2 (the lowest) as a begining, what you call F#5 is F#6... Which gives 4 Octaves and a little more !
Hey Alberto, I found a song where Scott does an ascending legato run up to a B4 in chest voice. Check out "This Christmas" by Pentatonix - it should be around 2:25 into the song (depending on the clip you find).
OMG YEAH! You are great! :D
his lower register is so mysterious and dark gives me chills its so soulful....he just tries to hard when he belts though but i do like his voice
I think not.
He has powerful high notes in chest voice, but his voice is truly a low - mid voice.
At the beginning, I was surprised to see how low his voice can go and how suddenly he can get to those low notes.
My mistake. You are right. Thank you for the correction. :)
Scott sings an A4 in chest voice in Hit the Road Jack.
What part?
I'm making videos of all Pentatonix's integrants!
Scott was first and the next will be Avi!
He actually goes higher than that in video killed the radio star.
nice D2!
This is my vocal range!
I'M A FEMALE WHO HAS THE VOCAL RANGE OF D2 - G5!!! crazy xxxxx
No, his highest is G5.
The note that you said is not F#6, it's F#5, you are one octave above.
The same to Kirstie's and Mitch's videos. You are checking one octave above. :)
Thanks! The video of Avi's vocal range be ready in a few days.
Tomorrow or later, I think.
This was good, but my goodness did we really need so many F#4's, I eventually just had to skip ahead because I was tired of just being shown the same note for like a minute and a half.
He probably hit even higher notes in the Wicked song he did with mitch
Is there an update on this, now that PTX Vol III is out? I might be wrong, but it sounds like "On My Way Home" has higher notes for Scott than the high ones here.
I Should Tell Ya Momma On You.
todrick at the end
This vocal analysis is way more accurate than the one by axel fuentes
most of y'all people in these comments ain't know shit. he IS a bass-baritone.
uhmm yeahh he is still a baritone.
Gawd DAYAM scott, u are so fawkin amazin o.o
In Video Killed The Radio Star his highest note is F#5.
Damn. I'm not gay but anyone should be allowed to say that his voice is HOT.
Scott's vocal range matches mine almost perfectly I can hit A#1 to F#5
i wish i could get to those extremes. It took me a while to hit the notes he used in I should tell ya mamma. And the higher i go past the beginning of the 4th octave/late 3rd octave, the more my voice cracks and wants to give up on me
it seems to me that his F#5 5:35 is close to chest, great technique
Rolling In The Deep - Adele.
he goes way higher than a g#4 is chest/mix. a4 many many times. he's done bflat4 atleast twice and after that it gets dicey...but i think he did hit a decent b4 in frozen medley messing around followed by a really strained hollow c#5
He sure does like the F#4's
AMAZING VIDEO grab my Ipad and check the pitch perfect app and listen to the notes one by one ... SO PERFECT love the video and love Scott also The Pentatonix
Amazing! What about Mitch?? :D
OMG HE CAN GO SO DAMN LOW! I tried to sing that D2 and it came out as a fog. I don't know why but whenever I sing anything lower than a G3 it comes out soft and weak. I've met girls who can hit lower than me.
that note is low for a male singer let alone a female so don't worry to much about it :)
Ethan Conway
Yeah I know. I was just really surprised and impressed.
oh okay, he is a Baritone like me. we actually have the exact same range :S D2-G5 :)
Ethan Conway
Cool. My range is Bb2 - F#6.
*****
A2- G5- F#6
C#2-Eb6
Happy
at 1:21 i was like WHAT THE HELL HAPPENNED TO KIRSTIE?!
Its a joke?....
Not to be "that guy", but this video is wrong.
The low note he is hitting is actually a D1, and the high note is a G4. No offense meant. :)
I feel like he'd be creeped out if he saw this haha
Scott actually hit B1 in telephone vid.
I doubt that
A I can barely hit a B1 and he's actually a base
TELL ME!!!!
Someone tell me that 3rd song?? When he's singing the F2 while (Kevin??) or someone is playing the guitar. It sounds so familiar!!!
Halo-beyoncé ;)
What's the song at 1:15, with the girl and Kevin?
Thanks!
Vou fazer de todos eles rsrs
I'm sorry but the girl sounds like she is screaming and it doesn't sound right
I think you are one octave below.
Scott hits a high A in chest at 1:48 in this video: /watch?v=iIfIv5yLyak
I NEED THE LINK TO THE VIDEO WHERE HE HITS A D2 PLZ
Just look up Scott Hoying - I should tell my momma on you
ele não passa mesmo do G5 ?
Yes, you're absolutelly correct! But i did my best! lol
1:44 is D3
He enters with a D3 but when he says the second syllable of "running" he hits a C3.
Get Your Mot•Or Runn•ing
D3..D3....D3...D3.F3.....C3
what song is that in the intro ?
I myself am a baretone so i can go pretty low
What is the song at 1:25?
Anyone know how high the falsetto note in his cover of I can't make you love me? It's around 2:02.
That note would be an F5. :)
Isn't falsetto, is a heady mix.
kevin - beatboxer
avi - bass
mitch - tennor
scott - ???
kirstie - ???
Erin Donovan scott is baritone and i think kirstie is mezzosoprano, isn't she?
HobbyLos LP i think youre right, thx :D
Mitch is counter tenor.
+Ashraful Islam i mean technically counter-tenor but it doesn't really matter too much
Mitch is a Counter-Tenor, Scott is a High-Baritone, and Kirstie is a Mezzo-Soprano
they were so tiny!
What song at D2 0:20 ??
Well, in that case, lemme go sit in a corner and cry. I thought I had the same range as him which made me so happy... then I saw this video.
My range: F2 - Eb5
Haha its quite cool to be a baritone. My range is similar to yours. Low notes: E2-C3, Belted/ chest voice: D3-G#4, falsetto: e4-d5
I have more or less the same range. I am not sure of my limits of chest/head voice but my whole range with falsetto is F2 (sometimes E2 but not always, I think with some practice I can hit it everytime)-G#5.
I am so craving to belt the A4 and B4. Im working real hard for it. What's your limit, like a belted note? I bet you're a tenor, baritones rarely go that high in the 5th otave
Carlos Fuentes Limit is an A, but that was only for a few seconds, and it was on the verge of breaking, so I don't really count that as a belting note. Usually G4 / G#4.
I'm C#2-E5, am I also a baritone? I've heard people say that if I can hit C# I must be a bass...
Noob question, does falsetto count in vocal range?
but of course
I was watching this compilation video of Scott/Mitch and in a Superfruit video I swear Scott hit an A5. (At least, I think it's him, not Mitch)
Yeah, it's in a compilation called "Mitch and Scott being the same person" at 6:27
Is he a baritenor?
0:44 is F#2
+Brady Kowaleski It's a sharp F2, not quite a F#2. ^^
Hey Alberto. I found a song where he hit A4 in his chest voice.
/watch?v=QafDnD2S948&
It is around 2:14
I have the same range, I just suck
My D2's don't sound that husky 😖 I'm a bit Jealous
Wow, we have the same range. He just have a better support and style, haha.
G2- C7 male. 14. what would i be considered
on a good day i can go to an E2
+Spencer Harmon Lol dude stop kidding yourself you're not singing c7 you're just ruining your vocal cords whilst making a squirrel sound. G2 probably means you're baritone, though in a choir they would make you a tenor.
+rolfvdhulst ok. Comfortably i can sing G7. C7 i admit is a squeak but G7 is a good easy note for me
+Spencer Harmon proof?
+rolfvdhulst ill post a video on my account
I wonder why he doesn't use head voice? I guess he likes his falsetto better!
Falsetto is head voice, it's just a technique people use in head voice. Falsetto is just a breathy head voice
also hv is connected
falsetto is disconnected
Falsetto adds more of a piercing sound. He's more of a soloist it seems than someone who is used to being used for filling chords, so he doesn't need the fuller sound a regular head voice brings.
