Peppermint loves top shearing. You can mow over it constantly and it will still spring up and take over your yard and garden if there's plenty of water. They just keep branching out from each place the stem is cut back and so get very thick and bushy.
Yes, this! I was so distracted by the mint going everywhere all through the video! Just cut it back! Use the leaves for something and it will grow back all bushy and lovely!!
I think it's because he changes too much of the water. He already has plants, floating plants and roots of terrestrial plants, all for nutrient export yet he does a minimum of 50% change of water/week. I think it's excessive and stresses the fish, in one clip in this video he changed as much as 90%!!!
It's because his tank is too small and he feels insecure/trapped. Bettas need 5-10 gallons minimum. They occupy a 3x3x3 foot territory in the wild (equivalent to a 200-gallon tank).
@@brennayeary4233 That's exactly what you're not supposed to do (source: www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/fin-rot ). Even if you don't add meds a 90% water change will only do more harm than good (since it's essentially like plonking the fish into a brand new tank without any acclimation). Fin rot will not kill the fish (at least not unless you absolutely neglect for months) but stress can very well kill a fish and that too in a matter of days! It is number 1 reason why fish stores lose fish!!!
That last clip of him in the dark was super cool, really glad you are able to bring this content to us and that you are open minded to new ideas or ways to show off your beautiful pets. Thank you for helping many of us through these hard times. We appreciate you very much!
@@Grexsome They look like a stick with several tentacles coming off one end, usually white, brown, or green. at 3:52 you can see some green ones hanging on the plant to the right, though they're out of focus there. 3:59 has another good image of them hanging off the plant in the front, and to the left of Kartoffel's face in 4:02. The tentacles can sting, like a jellyfish, and they reproduce by budding - they literally grow a hydra off the side of their bodies, and eventually it breaks off. They can walk by doing this little worm motion, or float around the tank to find new places, and they can kill fish fry and other small creatures (Baby shrimp, daphnia, etc) many times their size by stinging it to death. When disturbed, they pull back into a little ball that's about the size of a grain of sand. If you cut one in half, both halves can regrow into a fully formed hydra, and since they never go through senescence they are considered biologically immortal. Saltwater has them too. There are many fish that eat them, and even some snails. I'm actually kind of wondering if the Malaysian Trumpet Snails were feeding on the hydra, and killing them allowed the hydra population to explode? I don't know for sure that MTS eat hydra, though.
This is the best channel I have ever found. This is better than any reality television. The drama, the peace, the pure serotonin. Thank you. I love how much you love your fish. I hope you get those evil snails omg
I hope you're doing well and having an easy time coping with you loss. I just wanted to let you know that your videos bring me a lot of joy and are very calming to me :)
Those baby leeches have tiny dot eyes, it's freaking adorable. Also, I love how crazy zoomed in you can get with your camera. It's so cool to see all the details of each little creature in your tanks.
have your like! I can recommend a miniatur watter lily. I started a 30l tank after watching your other low tech tank for shrimps and some neons. The miniature water lilies look quite nice once they bloom, but you have to keep the glass off basically.
My betta died a few months ago and I remember watching your videos when I first got him and I had so many ideas for the future, but seeing this video was a comfort to me after losing my own fish. It's always so calming to see you make these videos.
If you cut the tops off the mint (the apex buds) it would promote side growth, and you’d get bushier longer lasting plants. If you cut off their flower buds and trim the ends of the plants as they get longer than you’d like they’ll last indefinitely. If the plant gets bigger than you’d like you can take a small cutting of it and put it in water, and then you’ll have a new mint plant in a few days. Please like this so he’ll see!

You can cut back the peppermint. Just like your water plants. It will grow in thicker and healthier looking . Plus you will be able to dry the leaves and make some great teas! Love the videos! Makes me want another beta.
Thank you so much for your videos! The music started and I got choked up ... there's something so peaceful and relaxing to them. For a few minutes, I can focus on just the video and forget everything else that's going on rightnow.
That was so soothing. Also the ending, when the light turned off was honestly so magical. His iridescence in the darkness was so gorgeous. Thank you for making these videos. They're truly an escape.
"sir we got a problem. a snail problem." "send in the specialists" "you can't be serious. they don't work by the books, take your money and cut your throat the moment you look away" "but they get the job done." and they did. they did get the job done.
Always keeping your videos for when I can't sleep, the music + filming are the only things that can help me with my insomnia so thanks a lot for your videos
I loved the dramatic end when the lights cut out. New fella is camera shy but that is ok, I has no idea watching leaches take down snails would be so soothing! Thank you for posting these
The way he stresses out and flares every time the camera is nearby definitely signals that he’d rather be alone. Plus the tank is too small to add other fish. One snail would probably be fine though.
I have some advice about your plants. You can tell by how much each plant is stretching that they aren’t getting enough light. You need high lumin bulbs for better plant growth and less stretching (more compact plants). Second thing I noticed is that the plants would do way better with an aeration. Ground plants aren’t meant to sit in water 24/7 and need mote oxygen to stay healthy. Lastly I think some of your plants have died from algae growing on the roots which would suffocate it and cut off nutrients to the plant.
I don't know why, but i always love watching your vids. You don't need to talk, you just film and put text in with the most peaceful music and there's something so hypnotic about it. Honestly, that peppermint grew so much i am in shock. I also thought you might've ended up using it for some simple syrups an whatnot. But thank you for making one of the most peaceful things i watch on here.
That was great! I’ve missed your videos. Also, thank you, so much. My bettas have enjoyed such a better life because of you. Many people appreciate the soothing quality of your work. Better still, please know that you have changed the lives of SO MANY FISH for the better!

Next time: There is a leech infestation. To counteract, leech eating snails have been added to the tank. Who will come out on top? To find out, tune in next month on... Dragon Ball Z!
These are so relaxing because of how genuine it is. You can tell that the passion and education came before the youtube channel. The video isn't selling me anything either, which is unfortunately the exception now.
I love your videos so much, the music you choose going along with maintenance of a fish tank in perfect balance... beautiful. Also, I loved the shot of Kartoffel in the dark, that looked really cool.
Mint is great! I had an English Mint in the corner of my deck one year and it got really big. Took over that entire corner of the deck and then some. That's why they say if you're going to plant mint in your garden to keep it in a planter underground because it will take over everything
I just got my first aquarium with plants and have been cycling it. I saw a white thing moving like an inch worm and googling couldn't help me figure out what it was - finally seeing your video I know! I had a snail eating leech! You have no idea how much not-knowing was bothering me!

Should I do sweet potatoes again, or another plant?
LOTUS
PLEASE TRY LOTUS ITS SO BEAUTIFUL AND EASY
maybe some kind of flower would be pretty
Maybe regular potatoes or a tomato plant?
Have you looked into growing avacado pits I’ve done it before and it’s super cool
Who would have known the best things I would see today were a camera shy fish and snail eating leeches. Love your videos so much.

Yes, this! I was so distracted by the mint going everywhere all through the video! Just cut it back! Use the leaves for something and it will grow back all bushy and lovely!!
Yes. I have mint on my tanks (well just one right now but was 2 of them) and they bush out more when you snip them.
Thanks, I was about to say this as well, mint is so stupid hardy and I regularly pinch off the tops for use in my kitchen
Silly question - is the mint still edible since the water is treated with Dechlorinator?
"They got rid of all the snails."
Wonderful!
"They also bred."
Aight imma head out
for real, then I got worried he’d have a leech infestation 😭
His color changes are so dramatic! You would think he'd be used to everything going on around him by now.

Me: I watched a video about a fish who is scared of his bringer of food

your videos are always amazing, Foo, thank you for keeping on
Foo: Ep. 16, Leeches infestation, I put some snails to get rid of.
Me: Interesting, let's see!
You also now have hydras in this tank. Every time he touches one, he jumps away in pain. Probably came in with either the snails or leeches.
Didn’t spot them until you pointed it out! You’ve got really keen eyes! Hope Foo sees this so he can do something about them.
