If cleaning doesn’t get you there, maybe overcharge or try measuring pressures with unit off, once unit is stabilized, see if pressures match ambient temperature, if high may be non-condensibles.
Those dang pine needles are a pain in the butt. I took both units apart at my sister in law's house a few years back and filled a big garbage can up with pine needles I pulled out of them. I sprayed the coils, well everything, with a degreaser and washed them out. When I put them back together they looked like new, and the performance increased so much she couldn't believe it. Nice work, stay cool! At least you didn't have to climb in the attic. Save those for early morning, yikes.
I just had a rooftop condenser In similar situation. Coil looked clean from outside. It was packed full with debris. Was located right next to the exhaust for when they run backup generator. Took a full gallon of cleaner to get it better
Danny S. I used to tell the younger guy to sneek up on all service calls as not to disturb a bundle of wires etc may a short in them and miss it rooting around too fast
thanks for satisfying my OCD and finally taking the grill off. Pine needles are acidic btw, unless they are in ground contact in which microbes neutralize the acid. Which is why adding pine needles won't help acidify your soil. I'm not really OCD but another OCD is losing screws. You don't need a magnetic tray when you can use the magnet on your worklight.
Ha...I said the same thing about the grill! But if you can save time here and there, but glad he saw too much build-up that resulted in a quality job by removing the grill. I'm surprised he didn't vacuum the dry stuff first and created soggy mud as a result! As a car detailer, you never want to spray liquid on a carpet without the vacuum process first! Fundamental rule! Great video and really helpful showing pressure decreasing from just some basic maintenance, resulting in better performance of the system.
Good job of cleaning the condenser coil Curtis. 👍 you clean better than most HVAC technicians. I clean mine myself and I always start by propping up the fan and vacuuming out the leaves on the bottom with the shop vac while it’s dry. Then I give it a good spray down in and out. Would be better for the customer to not pile up the debris right next to the AC unit, put it in the trash instead.
Don't cut grass or weed eat while your unit is running. I listened to the fan when you first walked up to the unit, it sounded like it was buffering the air instead of moving the air. Big difference in the sound after the cleaning. Enjoy your videos
My does the same thing in 90 plus weather the temp climbs 1 to 2 degrees because the unit is in direct sun from noon till about 4 in the afternoon once the sun gets off unit the house cools back down quickly. I thought for years there was something wrong, but the sun beating on the unit gets it so hot. It's a package unit
@@HVACGUY you would think so but I’m in SW Virginia about 5 minutes from the NC state line and about as close to the Tn line. I’m in the mountains where it’s usually cooler but this year has been way cooler than previous years. Some crazy weather so far this year
@@kg4muc Im in ohio and its been crazy cool so far. We breached 80 maybe once or twice so far this year. Finally starting to warm up but damn we are going into july and the shop has been crazy slow, just pretty much yearly tune ups filling the schedule
I went on a local call recently where the customer attempted to self serve. High side on R22 was 475 and low was 50. The compressor kept hitting the high limit. The evaporator was clean and airflow good. Turns out, the "handyman" just kept shoving 458A (along with R22) into the system in an attempt to raise the low side. I pulled all refrigerant out and found 17 lbs of refrigerant in a system that was designed to hold 7 lbs. Hmmmmmmm.... Do it yourself and save money..... Not so much.
If you pull the return door off there is 3 screws behind it and that whole grill comes off. Just did 3 of these same units these week all dirty condenser coils causing the issue
Great job. Enjoy holiday! My compressor is in a concrete area, gets no debris, but twice a year hose it out, get a lot of dirt. I guess because farmland only a mile or so away.
Fine workmanship. Looks like your pressure probes need new gaskets. Man that coil didn’t look that dirty from first pictures. Was thinking maybe overcharged b4 you cleaned it. Have been the doo -doo man on the 4th many times. Tell your boss to pay you extra lol. Be careful

Set the Vacuum on top of the unit & the Hose goes all the way to the bottom. Works Wonderful ! One of the Best $40.00 I ever spent. Home Depot. Wet / dry Rigid shop vac. 5 or 6 gallon. A lot of Dead Mice around here in units , Black Widow spiders 🕷️. Id Prefer not to Handle that stuff.
I like to fan out the stream from the end of the nozzle with my finger a little bit to get a more even pattern of water on those fins. Unfortunately, many residential plumbing hasn't got the best in water volume/pressure to do a really good job in a short time. Lots of trash down in the bottom of that unit too...its been years filling up.
Not going to say the condenser wasn't dirty because it was, but 30° over ambient is 435, you had 442. Don't know the SEER rating, lower rating at 20° over then it would have been high. Go to the next one, make some money!
Curtis can you please automatically go to your settings and turn on closed caption, thank you! Love your video man, very educational and entertaining! That coil was nasty brother, I’ve had some like that and worse in my day, yikes!
Telling her it could freeze if turned to low is false if the unit is working properly. If it is not working properly then it needs repaired. It looks like you got it patched, but it needs some more work.
Looked pretty thorough to me. Sure he didn’t put his temp probes on the lines. Maybe the owner should request a maintenance inspection where he can check/ clean the evaporator check wiring , capacitors Just my opinion sir. I do believe to can cause a frosting/ freezing condition if the lack of load and ambient temperature is too low. Just my opinion I do value your experience also
@@HVACGUY Curtis I was looking again at pictures of the pressures. Something not correct. Pressures and saturation liquid temps don’t agree. I know you don’t show LL temperatures etc. I think you have in refrigant charge If so your final LL sat temp over your ambient temp your said is still very high. Maybe overcharging for starters. Let me know if you see in the video 😊
Showing up to a house that is 73 when it’s 93 outside should be a legitimate enough reason for a tech to smack the homeowner in the mouth.

Check Fan also - for Proper Direction & Placement in the Shroud. Blade should be 1/2 in & 1/2 out of the fan shroud. in the Middle of the Blade edge.
Need to tell there lawn person to mow with discharge away from air conditioner. Excellent job Curtis 👍
