red's hue generally turn purple (Pink) when mixed with white / add some orange may counter that (and orange is generally brighter than red)

A couple things. First, Vallejo does have a Black Red in the Model Color range if that's something that interests you to look into. Second, why not mix your reds with Brown instead of Black? Black can ruin your reds like you said, but I think mixing with browns can be more forgiving.
I've ordered the black red so cheers for that. As for the browns in this case I wanted to avoid it as I find the result quite dirty. I'm not a fan if I want a more vibrant red.
I’d like to also know what brushes you’ve used as the tip looks really tight and bouncy. Been struggling to find a set that I like
What type of brushes do you use?
