My name's Paige and I have just finished my second year studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. I am a member of Jesus College and make regular vlogs of my day to day life at uni, including lectures, supervisions, and social activities.

PaigeY it’s definitely the opposite for me at uni - it’s probably a 40:60 split of girls and boys doing physics (though in my college there are 4 girls and like 12 boys 🙄)
@@Ellie-bk1zw When I attended Cambridge to study law, the ratio of men to women was 9:1. Admittedly that was in the pre-Cambrian era, and things have changed now.
My Year 12 Physics class had more girls than boys. My current class only has 2 though 😰

7:20 In India you'll have classes with 100 boys to no girls in some engineering colleges. In Iran women are in the majority with 70% but they don't end up with the best jobs or even good jobs.
Where I'm from, most universities are predominantly female and there is a huge national initiative towards education and female in STEM fields. However, there is an argument that its because a lot more male students do tend to travel abroad and most female students decide to stay in the country. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was actually scared to take a science class at college this year, but decided to go for it. I decided to try my hand at Geology and I'm really enjoying it! Thank you for the inspiration! 😁
You are posh for you mannerisms, strong work ethics and alongside with able to dabble well (most of the time) with stressful situations.
I just got my GCSE results and I got 4 A*s, 5 As and a B and now you’ve made me so much more confident for getting into Cambridge because you also got 1 B! :)

I've heard that unless it's a really competitive course like medicine, they don't really care about your GCSEs. Obviously a decent set with passes in Maths and English, but what you get in A Levels are more important. Plus they normally have their own admissions test for subjects. With the personal statement, this leaves GCSEs with little value as it is a weak indicator for success.
+ you have to indicate passion.

I would not worry about negative assumptions.....it's the internet.......although most people are great.....there will always be some super negative trolls. Also, without knowing a person, I would think that it would be difficult to make accurate assumptions about someone you see for a few moments on UA-cam.
I think to do well in many UK universities, you have to be both very bright and work hard......because most of the students are bright...so, going the extra mile is a way to distinguish one from the rest.

I got my IGCSE results recently and I was terrified cause I also got a B in Drama - I failed the written exam. You give me so much more confidence of getting into my dream uni!!

Last year I fell asleep in every lecture even if it was like 2pm and I felt so guilty about it, but it turned out I had very low blood pressure and I literally could not not fall asleep because of it haha, luckily there was never a lecturer who said anything about it.

I was put off a level physics by an awful GCSE teacher unfortunately - but the amount of boys doing it is a little intimidating

Same: teacher didn’t care, he wanted other people in my class to do it, but never encouraged me even though at one point it was my favourite subject!
It will be like that for mathsy subjects. There's 3 girls in my class out of like 28 people. 1 in my comp sci class out of 20 ppl. Surprisingly there are 3 girls in physics out of 10 ppl.
I see this boils down a lot to having good, encouraging teachers.

Study something that you know will always have your interest. Something that will leave you curious, and let you grow as a person. When I was in school, I loved studying and learning, but hated homework and subjects I did not understand. In university I found fields that were of interest to me and my work ethic improved, all due to enthusiasm for the subject. I grew more in the sense that I became more patient with myself and kept trying when something was not going my way. It is all about wanting it. Hope it helps xx
