Thing I learned from using this..If you're using a stereo dual input such as a synth, then turn the pan controllers in the control panel hard left and right, or you'll just get mono. Nice review.
To answer your question in regards to switching from line to pad, you need to download the Focusrite Control in order to switch the options and you will see the change on the interface as you select whichever setting you choose. Its pretty awesome.
Well my opinion: If you have a Kemper you should try to record things through S/PDIF (Digital).. As a result the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 is one of the cheapest way to do it this way bc it has the input for that. BUT IF YOU DONT NEED "S/PDIF" (maybe bc you have a Tube-Amp) >>> The Steinberg UE22 is good enough and even cheaper than this Focusrite.
I bought the 2i2.. it started out great.. sounds clear. Then after a couple months.. I started getting clicks and pops constantly. I uninstalled/installed the driver, restarted and the same thing. I went to Focusrite support site, followed their instructions for this issues.. and still got the same issue multiple times. I am running window 8.1 on a Dell XPS 8700 with more than enough power for home recording setup.
I bought a second hand focusrite 8i6 (1st gen) about 18 months ago. It has been rock solid as you said but I just ordered a 6i6 (2nd gen). It's basically the same thing but I just can't cope with only one headphone jack on the 8i6.
OK. Thanks for doing the review. I should say, you should have done some research before you gave the review on the pre-amps. A review that asks for a review isn't really helping in that respect. Happy that you like though it as I was thinking of buying it. I'm happy to take your advice. It's replacing my old Firewire 410 which no longer supports my OS - but which has two headphone jacks - and is at least 10 years old. Also, if you don't like the XLR mic male connection sticking out over the desk then turn it on its short side (just make sure you have support underneath or as I do, I wedge it against the bookcase at the side of my desk) and my desktop. Problem solved!
Yeah the basic features of hardware are nowadays amazing.... and to be happy you have to pay more to have the basic standard as from prevoius years...external power, spdif, solid aluminium box,96- 192kHz 24bit were a standard and low latency via firewire on older models of M-Audio interfaces such as Audiophile that was worth around 130EUR -150EUR only....nowadays we look for standards in middle or high class hardware that is way more expensive,..
I read that the 2 individual headphone jacks are set as: Headphone 1 - inputs 1/2 Headphone 2 - inputs 3/4 Can this be changed in the focusrite software app? Thanks! Great review.
Hello everyone.. I have a problem with my Buffer size setting, it just showed me the latency from 10.0ms to 20.0 instead of 1.0ms to 20.0ms. So I am stuck with 10.0ms as the lowest latency. I already updated the Scarlett mix control, but the new version 1.9 is even worse. It doesn't show me any choice to change the buffer size, so I decided to reinstall the version 1.8. But till now I can't get back my normal buffer size setting from 1.0ms to 20.0ms. Hope you guys could help me to solve this problem.
...you know looking further at you vid...in its current dimensional state where would they put the mic jacks on the rear? The box would need to be wider
Hi, great video. I have one of these and was debating whether I need a mic preamp too - do you still think you don't need one with the Scarlett 6i6? Thanks.
I would always recommend that if the budget allows, get gear to do it's purpose. The purpose of a preamp is just that, so it 'should' be better than what the 6i6 has built in. This of course depends on which preamp you choose to go with. However, if the budget for an external preamp isn't there, the on board preamps of the 6i6, in my opinion at least, are very warm sounding and above average as compared to other audio interfaces I've had experience with.
How I can send internet browser audio into the headphones but not into the outputs? Also, about the standalone (direct monitoring) capabilities - can I link any input to any output, for example can I link every input to every output?
Should I go for the 2i4 or the 6i6? Am I able to use the 6i6 without using MixControl at all? I already have Ableton and i don't want to deal with another software. I just want to record my instruments (guitar, bass, midi Keyboard) and use my SP404sx as an external effect. But also I want to buy something future-oriented, because of possible additions to my gear. All i'm interested in are the I/O. It woudn't be that bad, if i had to change the cabels often, but if the 6i6 works without MixControl i think i would spend the 50 more bucks for the comfort, not always having to change the cabels. Thank you for your help! I hope it's understandable.
SINARTISTIX I have used this device on both Mac and PC with third party DAWs. The driver for PC is very bad. The mix control software never sees the box itself as being connected to the computer, but installing the driver manually through Device Manager did the trick. Even though the software says the box is not connected, ProTools and Audacity both see the hardware and all of the inputs and outputs. Hope this help! Good luck!
i have umc 202, the preamps monitored for recording create a -87-86 noise visible in analyzer, and signal clipping if you play hard with pick ups settings to low from strings. With this 6i6 and ac i can fix imput volume and noise ?
One use case i know of is if you have an expression pedal for guitar - plug it into the MIDI and then the expression pedal can control wah/volume/paramerers in a software plugin.
I am running Sierra and had no problems whatsoever. Can you tell me more about the issue so if it's a problem I can research it and include it in my video?
Mero Chingon Yes, use the two front inputs for your mics and the one on the line-inputs on the back for your guitar(s). You control the gain on the back via the software.
From Wikipedia: S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format)[citation needed] is a type of digital audio interconnect used in consumer audio equipment to output audio over reasonably short distances. The signal is transmitted over either a coaxial cable with RCA connectors or a fibre optic cable with TOSLINK connectors. S/PDIF interconnects components in home theatres and other digital high-fidelity systems.
i bought this particular interface because of the spdif output...my powered speakers have a spdif input so there is no loss of signal since it is a digital signal..
No taking away from the quality of the sound engineering. But wouldn't it have been great had Focusrite put the knobs on top of the box or the XLR inputs on the back? Somebody flunked Industrial Design 101.
If you don't mind me answering first, I had a few teething problems with it when I first bought the device, however, to be fair, since then the drivers have been updated which fixed one or two issues and they do seem to be on top of things. You can't use usb3 to connect the soundcard though as the focusrite control software won't work through it, you have to use usb2.
You can't go wrong with Apogee but they are very expensive. I wouldn't write it off just yet. Have you contacted support to see what the problem could be. I'm on Sierra and it's working perfectly.
After six days, the cheap adapter they include with the interface crapped out. I couldn't power up the unit. Tried to use another 12 volt adapter, it didn't work. If you look online, you'll see Focusrite 6i6 "replacement" adapters on sale.....not a good sign. You can feel how cheap the adapter is when you pick it up. Focusrite includes a couple of different plugs that can be snapped on for different types of outlets. The American style plug is NOT the default. If you lose that shit, you're screwed, buddy ! I like Cubase, but the 6i6 doesn't. I got tons of latency. I had to download drivers and verification numbers. My old Lexicon Alpha has more volume than the Focusrite 6i6.
Nasher188 good to know. I’m guessing the default is the UK style plug, Focusrite being an English company. Weird that they don’t ship different plugs for different markets. Every other company that makes any kind of electrical product seems to manage it. I’m using Logic, so wouldn’t necessarily run into the same issues you had with latency, but it’s hard to know without trying it out.
You had me at "its got some uh nice knobs" im buying it

Awesome review brother... Hoping for more Audio gear reviews... Keep up the great work...
Thank you sir. Feedback is much appreciated!
I have this very audio interface and I think is great! All my system is balanced.. DBX 231s Eq, Tannoy Reveal 802 monitors, Presonus Temblor T10 sub.
There are 2 line inputs on the back- you looked right at them:)
Well my opinion: If you have a Kemper you should try to record things through S/PDIF (Digital).. Great review, no biggie to with the mic jacks on the front...for the price of this unit man I really can deal.

Will it work with windows 10 properly? I have the first gen 2i4 and latency is what I'm struggling with for the most part.
I read that the 2 individual headphone jacks are set as:
Headphone 1 - inputs 1/2
Headphone 2 - inputs 3/4
Can this be changed in the focusrite software app?
Thanks! Great review.
How can i use two headphones together during a recording? Please let me know the settings for it. Thanks
Great review
I am about get this for start someone told me this is good to start off with to record drums
Why does one of my headset input jack not work....as well as two of the moniter jacks...both side 2?
What's the main difference between gen 1 and gen 2 of the same model ?

does it require a TRS jack specifically or will any 1/4 inch adapter work

Some pitcures of the mark 2 show the jack inputs on the backs as 1 and 2 yet others like this vid show 3 and 4?

Good Video bro =)
Are main volume/phones knobs made of plastic???
encode84 alluminum
big problems with the drivers on sierra and windows 10....NO HARDWARE CONECTED....
I am running Sierra and had no problems whatsoever. Can you tell me more about the issue so if it's a problem I can research it and include it in my video?
so can you only run 2 xlr mics at one time?
Hello Average Enthusiast : Works properly with Mac?
It does. I am running this on my MacBook Pro 15" Retina on Sierra.
Thank U!
I hooked this up straight out the box and the mic was recording sound on the right side only. How do I change that?
That's an issue with your recording software. You're probably recording into a stereo track. A regular microphone signal is mono.
this or Native Instruments KA6 Komplete Audio 6?
I have not used the KA6 so I can't say one way or the other. Thanks for watching!
does it have usb 3 version?
QUESTION: it is possible to record 2 condenser microphones and one guitar at the same time with Scarlet 6i6? If YES, How?
Mero Chingon Yes, use the two front inputs for your mics and the one on the line-inputs on the back for your guitar(s). You control the gain on the back via the software.
@@christiaandekker3909 Thanx for your answer.
@@christiaandekker3909 the focusrite software??? because still have no sound out of my 3-4 INPUTS, I already make them available but there is no sound
Hey, I like your voice.
good vid, what would the spdif in and out be used for

this is a good unite ,but the driver is horrible.
Agreed.
Chankly, what happened? Kindly elaborate. I am planning to buy one.

im on sierra and i still get ,,no hardware connected,, on 6i62nd, its so frustrating,im selling this card and going for apogee, IM SO DISAPOINTED!!

I had an Apogee 2 a while back and it broke down after about 9 uses. Went with Focusrite and it's been good since.
Complete garbage product ! This thing is going back ! You've been warned.
Nasher188 I was thinking of getting one of these. Keen to know what problems you had with it.

Nasher188 good to know. I’m guessing the default is the UK style plug, Focusrite being an English company. Weird that they don’t ship different plugs for different markets. Should I use USB to use this for talking on discord. Or should i put a line in and line out into my sound card?
You just use this, since this IS your soundcard.
