When you flashed your rider weight plus riding gear up on the screen and said you feel the suspension is just fine, I was hooked! I’m 63 years old, 220 pounds without riding gear, and I love soft suspension. I also like the prospect of picking up a lightweight bike. Thank you for a candid review.
Yeah it worked for me for a yeah and a half. I adjusted the preload as well. Also the rally has a slightly more stiff rear shock. Now when I'm doing woops or rear hard stuff I can get the front to bottom out, but a front spring replacement for a specific weight is only 120$ and a couple hrs of work.
Just ordered a CRF300L. Hard to find already in stock and when i did fine one it was marked up to almost $7500. Found a dealer out of town who had one on order so i sent a deposit, saved me about $1500. Really excited, its my first bike since my cr80 20 years ago
Just wind up the preload on the rear and lower tire pressures to 15 and 20 untill you can afford upgrades. Love mine got great results from a full exhaust!
I am a new subscriber. Because I'm thinking of buying this bike, I have watched three or four of your videos, and yes, I watched them all the way through. Thanks for educating me!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I thought maybe it was a little long winded but I wanted it to be something a lot of people could relate too. Also I as well have a rally on order.
@@got_to_roll Only 2? You must have been on the fence... Hell I found a used one and still have 1 deposit at a dealership (had 4) in case my wife wants one too. Unfortunately I parked my Monkey with extra small whitewalls next to the Rally and suddenly it was too tall for her. Guess I better buy some Shinko Mobbers for the Monkey.
Great summary of the bike. Tyres are king when it comes to confidence on and off road. Agree stock tyres are spot on for compacted ground and road use but need changed if you plan to attack any mud or sand. Not had to replace my indicators yet but have seen a lot of issues where people have dropped the bike (even from standing) and have broken the plastics where they mount. So rear indicators are on order for me because the bike will go on its side at some point!
I guess I didn't realize the aftermarket was that big, I don't do FarceBook. I'm 70, and have been riding for 55 years, all Honda and BMW. Another good point about this bike... I drive a 2500HD pickup, 10mpg on good days. I can hop on the Honda and run to town for small things, and put 2 gallons of gas a month in it (for that). It does a true 75mpg on road, 7X better than my truck. I'm even looking at small "hacks". LOL I may even buy 2 bikes! 8) JMHO --gary
Thanks for real world reviews. A huge majority of these bikes will be primarily on pavement and a few dirt roads.. a small minority will ride the type of trails you were showing. I weary of reviews wherein bikes like these are cut down because they perform poorly in extreme situations. There are few riders, relatively, who can utilize Even this machine at its maximum ability. Go ahead, enjoy it, change the tires and wheels, add some racks or bags or whatever and pretend you are in the desert some where. That is as close as most of us will ever come anyway.
Once again. Appreciate the follow through with updates, tracking of performance, and your vocational knowledge. I’m still sold and deposit going once the 22’s drop.
Awesome, I think you will really enjoy this bike. It is not a master of anything but can do all things well, then you can build it to a custom state to more fit your specific needs.
I am just taking a riding class this weekend at the local technical college. If I love it, that 300 rally is next on the list! After prerequisite waiting period of course!!😆
Before I watch this i will say the rear suspension was designed for 60kg riders and plain sucks while the front forks feel a lot better in comparison. Had a CRF250L as a light duty bike while also riding my XR650L, These two bikes were lightyears apart in design with the older 650 just being so much of a better bike in terms of suspension. Don't the manufacturers learn from experience? - or is it a generational gap where knowledge of what works disappears. I had the 250L for a few months and it was a pretty decent commuter but the moment you threw some dirt at it the rear shock would just say no ways. Sold it years ago. Still have my XR650L (657cc) - 133kg tank empty after weight redux and happy for it. From what I gathered the 300L series still has a wimpy pogo stick rear shock to this day. Edit: watched your vid now and you are pretty spot on the money. Guess a sorted 300L wont be a bad bike to own. I'll stick with my 650L for now - it has fully adjustable suspension front and rear ex factory and hauls my 220 pounds kitted around the dirt from mild to wild.
Good analogy of the tire pressure. I have a 2021 Klx230 and in the process of turning it in due to being a Lemon well at least the dash. The speedometer stopped working shortly after purchasing it last July. The technician replaced the dash and then it stopped working again and he replaced the sensor. Well last Saturday it stopped working again but it has stopped before. Other than that I like the bike except it's a lot worse on the road and the suspension is not that great either. I've owned more than a few kawasaki and Yamaha and one Suzuki. I've never owned a Honda. I would not consider the Klx300 as my current bike has deterred me from trusting the dash. I'm watching a lot of videos and getting first hand knowledge.
Thank you for the Awesome review Andrew! I am new to the channel and subscribing!! I ride a 88 Honda nx 250, and am ordering a 300 l for me and my girlfriend! ✌🏽

Hey Jim, its a great bike overall. I dont think there is anyone out there who could have this bike and not enjoy it. On top of that as the market is now it is one of the most affordable dual sports you can buy today off the lot.
Great review thanks. Low maintenance has convinced me this is the one. I was concerned because im 6'2" and 220 lbs but if it works for yoy then i think ill be fine. Thanks
Still rocking my two 400Rs and a 650R dual. Hard to let them go I try and than I get on some newer jenky bike and I’m like nope I’ll kick mine over. I would like one estart bike and I’ll get one eventually nothing really against them but those single cylinder thumpers are tanks no way I’d get a new smaller bike I’d get a old 250R for trails if I wanted something lighter bc I’m 6’4 235 and like the weight of my XR400s but for single track you better be shape. Looking at this 300l good deal full yosh and ecu. I’ll do a review on it. Happy riding
Great little bike really enjoying my one down here in new Zealand ordered src moto aftermarket parts very good stuff 👍 got skid plate and crash bars and just ordered the full carries that takes a fuel can Cheers
Liked the video. I'm thinking of buying this for a daily computer 60 miles a day. Do you think it would hold up and what's the top speed? would definitely replace tire for street tires .
Agree in all fronts, the tyres expecially, they are fine for road and gravel roads (not at recommended pressure tho) anything more "serious" than that and they struggle. First thing i'll do when i get the money is change tyres
Yeah it was the first thing I did as well. Just keep in mind that there is not many tires in that size. So for something like a D606 of AC10 you are actually de-gearing the bike. So you will also want to do a sprocket/chain upgrade.
Great vid man. I also own a 300l. Maybe a weird question but I honestly can’t tell your accent, like I can hear Irish if I’m trying too, but also north american if I’m trying lol. Maybe a fellow Newfoundlander? Aha anyway peace dude
Great bike im enjoying mine so far. Going to 400 miles and i do have that 5k rattle. Its a bit annoying but i been learning to deal with it. I do hope it goes away when its fully broken in.

@@994Xp the 5k rattle only happens when you hit 5k rpms. You talking about me hitting 5k in miles? I dont think it may go away. 5k rattle means it rattles when the bike is around 5000 rpm.
Hey Mate great video! I just ordered my 300L a few weeks ago but unfortunately have to wait untill July🙄. I can't remember if you had the ABS version or not but here in Australia ABS is a must, i was wondering how you find the ABS on the front when riding dirt trails? I know that the switch turns off ABS to the rear but how does it effect the front? If you have any feedback back it would be appreciated Cheers 🍻
Hey man, I hope you get your bike soon. So for most people I think abs on the front can be a good thing. Me personally I like to sometimes lock my front tire in a slide on a ditch or incline so I just removed the fuse, no more abs for me. Then you might ask why did I get the ABS bike? Well it was the only one available and I didn't want to wait another few months.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad yeh I plan on rideing mine off road an pushing it a bit so I was thinking about pulling the fuses also 😁, did you get any warning lights or a flashing ABS light after pulling the fuses? Thanks
I currently ride the cb300r which uses the same 286cc single so I already have a good feel for the engine characteristics for the street oriented version however; I know the gearing is a bit different and maybe even the fueling but regardless I've love what this bike is able to do and I feel a good sidegrade would be the crf300l or the rally edition because I find myself next to gravel roads and trail sections with my little 17's and street tires wishing I could go there.
@ Izzy. Hello there! did you buy the cbr 300 new?? Does the bike have good handeling? Definitely go for a dual sport as well you can go almost anywhere it’s Awesome! And are you gonna get a bigger cbr in the future?
I just subscribed, something I almost never do!!! Thank you for the thoughtful and well considered information. You need to get on your bike and come up to the Okanogan Highlands for a visit. You would love it and my off the grid cabin. I am thinking on putting some $$ down on a CRF300l Rally, problem is no one has them in stock. I sure hope that changes! ThanX again and happy trails!
I use mine for checking my crawfish levees and riding to town which is 3 miles away. Can you give me advice on a better tire and tire pressure for a mix of riding on & off road?
Till the end of course Fully capable no doubt it will do it. But fuel range and power it the hesitations for me. It's sort of between my KLX250S and a 701, soas a one bike.. still interested
Hi there, please help: is this byke fine for city ride in an italian city with some traffic jam? I would use from time to time with a pillon only for less than 6 km distance. Love the style and the chance to enjoy green forests and blue sea at the weekend ;) Thank you super very much ;)
@andreacasula5109 I would say the stock suspension is a little soft for a Pillion. But it can be done, the rally version is much better for road riding with irs large fuel capacity, bigger brakes, brighter lights, and a bit harder suspension.
Those plastic covers on the bottom of the front forks can only collect debris and deteriorate the front forks I don't care why they were put there but that's a bad idea
Great video Andrew. I have basically the same mods but went with a dobek ejk. I like the ejk but cant find that sweet spot in the settings. See any comments regarding that in your forums? Next upgrade is front suspension for me.
Nice vid 👍 I'm a woman, well under 100kg, looking to get started with a dual sport. So 300L sounds like a dream. Anyone know where one can buy the plastics at 2:55? I love the black look. Also, I'd want a nice bigger fuel tank for some long range exploring & longer rides out of the city for motocamping.
@@iosoi3145 I may considered opinion ( for what it's worth), after over 40 years of riding, Honda has made an outstanding bike in the L and the rally ( especially the rally). To be light and agile in the dirt AND completely stable and pleasant at ( legal) highway speeds , all while using almost no fuel, is a truely great achievement from a manufacturer than has been bland for years. This bike, and the brother bike the 2022 model CB500X, are a truely great pair of mtotorcycles. The 300's have very high seat heights ( somewhat lowerable) and the 500 has a high seat ( even more lowerable), which is something to consider if you are vertically challenged.
@@gregjetnikoff7124 Thanks for your reply. I was looking at the CB500X too, especially if I was doing long road rides to get to my destination. I'm 5ft6, but being female I have shorter torso and longer legs/inseam than my 5ft6 brothers out there. I haven't been able to sit on the L, Rally, or CB500x let alone test them because the stores are all out of stock. Only available for order. So I'd be buying on blind faith. Although I did sit on a 2020 Kawasaki KLX230 and just my heels were off the ground. The L or Rally loaded up with gear should be pretty good. Happy riding!
5k rattle is just exhaust noise when you hit the power band, getting a new pipe moves it and i have had the same on my old XL250. Best upgrade i did was a Tubliss inner-tubes, im using the with the stock tires and at 5PSI they do really well and im looking forward to seeing what new tires will be like at such low pressures.
Oh do you have a dual sport? There is tons of areas to ride that are considered roads but they have never been paved. I have road from the highest point in the state down to the lowest point.

A bike like yours went past my house today. With at least two other riders behind. Couldn't help but think of your video.
It was me.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad PV area. Not far from Industrial Park. Was Happy to see dual sports in the neighborhood.
@@bellyacre1 Yeah thats what im saying it was me lol A rally, 300L and Wr250.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad Cool! Maybe one day I'll catch up to you. I took a little street ride Saturday. Waiting for the 60 degree weather.
Thanks, buying a 22 this coming weekend, can't wait! Great videos!
I enjoyed your video. I’ve been waiting already 6 months for my crf300L Probably getting it next month. I’m excited.👍
Just wind up the preload on the rear and lower tire pressures to 15 and 20 untill you can afford upgrades. Love mine got great results from a full exhaust!
Exactly, thanks for the comment.
Good to know, which exhaust did you fit?
@@daveeagling9372 its an fmf exhaust sounds great and a bit more torque surprisingly
I have one on order! Looks like a great bike for a 65 year old!
ordered my rally yesterday
I do feel it is a great approachable bike for an older rider.
I am 68 and got one last month and love it on thing though I had it lowered
Your bike will come without a skid plate, it's crazy
My credit is bad. But I have a pension. How can I get a loan to purchase this as a daily driver. Thank you and Yeshua bless you ❤
The tire conversation helped a lot…thank you!…good tires make better riders..who knew?….good job on “the why” that is!
I am a new subscriber. Because I'm thinking of buying this bike, I have watched three or four of your videos, and yes, I watched them all the way through. Thanks for educating me!
I am glad to have you!
Liked your tire/chair analogy! I’ve got the Really on order - can’t wait :)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I thought maybe it was a little long winded but I wanted it to be something a lot of people could relate too. Also I as well have a rally on order.
Deposits on the Rally at 2 dealers. Patience...
Just got 2 of them one for me and one for my wife I can’t wait to get on the trail
Awesome Erikk, Congrats and I hope you enjoy the new bikes.
And replace the suspension.
Excellent content Andrew! 🎉
Yup, and that ECU review was clutch.
I’d grab whatever yeah you can, nothing changing in 2022 and as I’m sure you know they can be tough to find
@@natekerx85 took me 6 months to get a rally
@@natekerx85 you're 100 percent certain nothing is changing for 22 model year?

great info on the tires and maintenance! really appreciate it, your videos rock!
Thank you Alex! thanks for all the support.
Great video! I think this is the perfect bike for a 65 year old returning motorcyclist
Yes for sure, It is def mild enough for anyone yet powerful enough to grow into.
Made it to the heart part. Thumbs up for the info!
Thank you, thank you!

Andrew, I’m about ready to pull the trigger and buy the CFR300L and videos like yours is making my decision easier to want one of these bikes.

@@994Xp haha wow my comment was 2 months ago. I now have 1300 miles on my bike and since done the first oil service. Yes i still have that 5k rattle. So far bike been running like a champ. No issues.
If you have any feedback back it would be appreciated
Cheers 🍻
Hey man, I hope you get your bike soon. So for most people I think abs on the front can be a good thing. Me personally I like to sometimes lock my front tire in a slide on a ditch or incline so I just removed the fuse, no more abs for me. Then you might ask why did I get the ABS bike? Well it was the only one available and I didn't want to wait another few months.
@@MotorcyclesOffroad yeh I plan on rideing mine off road an pushing it a bit so I was thinking about pulling the fuses also 😁, did you get any warning lights or a flashing ABS light after pulling the fuses?
Thanks
I have to wait until November, soonest I could get one in Australia. So you got lucky only waiting till July!

I want the black plastics too!
Really a fan of CRF
It is a pretty solid bike.
Hello What Tires have Now???
5k rattle is just exhaust noise when you hit the power band, getting a new pipe moves it and i have had the same on my old XL250.
Best upgrade i did was a Tubliss inner-tubes, im using the with the stock tires and at 5PSI they do really well and im looking forward to seeing what new tires will be like at such low pressures.
Wow yeah, 5PSI and you can stick to everything lol.
