    Yamaha Tenere 700:
    The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is a midsize adventure/dual-sport motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha since 2019. It features a 689 cc (42.0 cu in) parallel-twin engine which powers the motorcycle through a six-speed gearbox and chain drive. Brakes are equipped with rider-switchable (on-off) ABS. The "baby Ténéré" is the latest in a series of dual-sport Yamaha motorcycles named after the Ténéré desert stage of the Dakar Rally in the Sahara. The successor to Yamaha's XT660Z Ténéré was first announced as the T7 concept at the 2016 EICMA with an anticipated production launch in 2018. A refined concept was publicized a year later.
    Yamaha announced that delivery of bikes would begin in Europe in July 2019, and only the following year to the USA due to emissions and other regulatory delays. The liquid-cooled 4-stroke 8-valve DOHC engine with crossplane crankshaft was already in use and well reviewed in Yamaha's MT-07 naked and Tracer 700 sport touring bikes.

    I've seen allot of dudes who've never ridden dirt bikes, trail bikes, or duel sports think their gonna buy a T7 and go do singletrack. If you wanna get hurt then go right ahead, but the T7 for any average rider is a TERRIBLE bike for off roading.

      Colton I agree, It is a tough bull to handle. People see other riders like pole tarres throw it around like a trials bike and think its not that hard. Having one I can tell you that it takes some time, and is a hard bike on single track. I dont know if you watched it all but I really tried to drive that point home when I said its not a beginner bike.

      @@MotorcyclesOffroad Yeah man, I'm more referring to dudes who've ridden street bikes for years, thinking the T7 is gonna be their first "Off Road" bike. There's another you-tuber (who I won't mention, not looking to throw shade) who bought a T7 and mentions it being his first off road bike, and doing singletrack on it, only to be in for a rude awakening. He later added a 300L to his fleet to. Right tool right job, unless your a damn animal and it doesn't matter which isn't most of us.

      Couldn’t agree more. Same as people trying to ride challenging dirt on 1200s I remember the days when a 600 was considered a set of keys for an orthopedic doctor’s Mercedes. It’s just a pig. Long days in the dirt are so much more FUN on a dirty day.

      I'm getting myself a T7 at some stage. It will be used 80-90% on road with some light TET adventures. I had a Maico 490 back in the 80s......but I'm not so stupid to think I'm as strong or as fit as I was then. Know you abilities folks.

      It's also as I've noticed requires a lot of respect, in young and dum 20 year old and let's face it decision isn't the best for a guy my age😂, I know the 300 which I do own is perfect because even when I do get frisky with he throttle it's more forgiving

    I owned the T7 and it’s tall and top heavy , I’m in my fifties and have a bad knee and hip , getting old is shit.
    But it’s a heavy bike and for my skill set it was too much so now I’m riding a 300 l.
    I’m 210 pounds so I’ve fitted YSS rear shock and upgraded the fork spring , really improved the handling on and off road .
    Absolutely love the little Honda , far more fun than the bigger bikes ,best move Ive made .

    Great comparison video. I had a 250L and did everything to it including a sidecar and a turbo, but it just wasn't big enough for long adventures. I got rid of that and my old goldwing and I'm looking at getting a tenere. This is exactly the kind of comparison I needed

    Great vid. Been waiting for the 300L to come in stock. Local dirt and commuting for me. Gas is crazy $5+ here in Cali. Gotta hang up my truck for weekends only. Great content, I really enjoyed it.

    So happy I came across this video! I always though of Tenere 700 as my next bike but thought of it a bit out of my budget. I recently started considering CRF 300L Rally and this video certainly gave me some confidence that I won't be making a huge mistake, especially as I want to do parts of TET. Well, if I am making a mistake, I will always be able to move up to the Tenere later 😆 Thanks for a great video!

    Nice comparison ! Love the tenere . As a rally owner your estimate is pretty good I would say on average 400 km range but I have pushed it as far as 550 km when taking it extra easy !

    Nice video, I put my name on a list to get the 300 rally it never came in ended up with the G310GS nice little bike. but I did add some rally raid parts to help it out for the off road rides, I’m still a Honda fanboy and time will tell if the baby GS will hold up for the off road I have planned for it this summer. I also wave to everyone and made it to the end

    Nice work mate. I have the Rally on order (been waiting many months) and am running an MT-07 Tracer setup for gravel roads. Due to Australia licencing I can't pull the trigger on the T700 yet so have the (almost - ground clearance, alloy 17s and short suspension travel are left wanting on the Tracer) next best thing.

    Very nice vid. I considered the T7 and went with the 300Rally and loving it!. If I have to take a cross country ride I take my GoldWing. But now I find myself riding the 300 Rally over my GW or my VRod Muscle, and always searching for another off-road trail.

    Excellent comparison. Excellent descriptions. Watched to the end. Planning to get a 300. I’ve been comparing to the CB500X but have decided against it. I’m wanting more off road. I have a Indian Challenger for my long distance road trips.

      Well I think you already have your answer, you already have a good rode bike so the 300L or 300rally should be what you spring for. As for just offroad the 300L is better and you can drop it 1000 times without worrying about cracking the ferrings the rally has. But the rally has better lights and a huge fuel tank getting you a 260mile + range. So all depends what you want to do with the bike. I really dont think the CB500X is a good bike overall, I think it is caught in the middle of a catch all bike and is not really good offraod, but you already have a road bike. Anyway I hope that helps.

    You are exactly correct on your review, I own a big bore 2013 wr290r with all the freckles, 90/10 tires, the best bike I ever owned period with 30000mi and a basically stock T7 with 50/50 tires, I am a very good dirt rider in south Jersey, did a number of enduros, harescrambles, at first a did not like the T7 at all, then I got back in racing shape rode the t7 alot this winter on single track and it makes you a much better dirt rider, you have to use all your dirt bike skills to ride it off road, just got back last weekend and rode the wr290r on singletrack and I was just turning and burning, felt like it was a lirtle pit bike, actually I think the best unicorn adventure dual sport motorcycle for under 400mi adventure is these small japanese 300cc bikes, if you stay off the interstates, a small rally windscreen, seat concept seat, 3gal tank, the only reason I bought the T7, I sold my street cruiser and take my T7 on 2000mi week trips

    I was veeeerryy close to grabbing a 2024 T7 but after realizing I ride 80% off road went with a 2023 CRF300 Rally. Got it for $5,000 and throwing about $4,000 in upgrades on it and it’s freaking incredible

      Man I’m torn right now. I moved to WA and got the 300L because of all the supposed tracks. But they’re all so damn far that riding on the road for 3-6 hours to get to them one way sucks.
      Almost thinking of getting the Tenere instead and just give up most off road except forest roads. At least I could get to them.

      @@Thatbeardedguy86I got rid of the Rally pretty quickly, I ride a KTM 500 EXC-F now. I’m not a fan of riding pavement so I literally just haul the bike to areas with trails then ride out from there. I also base camp ride so I’ll set up my camping stuff at a campground then ride the trails within the area that I’m camping in

    I recently found your channel. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and now I’m subscribed. I’m in the market for a dual sport bike to ride around the mountain roads of northern Utah and to take on some moderate mountain and desert trails. I’ve been looking at used bikes, but people are asking $3k for 15 to 20 year old bikes that are not in flawless condition. I think you’ve convinced me to go ahead and buy a new CRF300L. It will be all mine and last for decades. Thanks! 👍

    Thoroughly enjoyed this comparo, (yup …easily captured my attention to the end).
    The factors used to differentiate bikes, personal insights only an owner can offer, combined with high quality videography and screen caption editing really made this “Must see TV” 👍
    Been decades since riding off-road, but am seriously considering my first adult dual sport purchase.
    30” inseam & AARP qualified age, suggest a shaved seat + K-link would be wise (at least initially) to develop bike handling skills.

      Oops, I shoulda specified the CRF 300L. Sure, the Yamaha XT 250 is more inseam friendly …but I would only consider it as a ‘transition bike’.
      I learned how to handle my first adventure bike (Suzuki Vstrom 1000) pretty quickly, without modifying seat or suspension.

    Nice comparison! Although i totally love the T7 design, i must say nimble and agile sometimes is a win. Especially in my country where there are a lot of mountainous areas. We drive smaller cc bikes here, and we have a lot of XR150L, CRF250L, WR155R, XTZ125, KLX250, etc. not just for dual-sport but for daily commuting as well. You don't need to go fast, you just need to glide through the terrains with ease.

    Very well presented and informative review. I have aCRF300L and a F800GSA, could ride thenGS all day, do some light off reading but there are places I can take the CRF that I would not dare take the GS. Really like the T700, must test ride one soon.

    I have no intention of selling my Africa Twin because like you Andrew it serves me as does your T7 serve you. I will enjoy far more for all the reasons you discuss my CRF Rally when it arrives to ride braided rivers rocky fire breaks and especially single tracks. Your experienced clarity on the subject will be a huge help to many ...... Your presentation, dialogue and editing is smooth as butter and makes for great watching. Thanks.

    Man this is a fantastic review! Also a weirdly useful comparison; my brother rides a Versys X-300 and I want something to take offroad with him. I like the CRF300L for that aspect, but I'm %80 street rider so spending $5k+ on a bike I realistically will ride five times a year seems dumb, so the Tenere is a pretty attractive option.
    I wanna wait 'til the new TransAlp comes out though, if it competes with the T7 it'll hopefully bring the used market down LOL

    Can’t find any T7’s at the dealers up here in the PNW but I plan to buy one. I’m hearin 6 months to a year wait. Excellent breakdown and analysis all the way through to the end!

      @@MotorcyclesOffroad My brother has a Tenere 700, I have a CRF Clone, a SSR-300, commercialized here in Bolivia in it's original brand, Bosuer. I'm 5.7" and unable to touch the floor with my two feet in the Tenere.

    Great video and very informative. Neither one is the fantasy Unicorn adventure bike, but together they are the perfect adventure bike combination.
    if I had to sell one of mine it would be the T7 as my CRF 300.rally Can still do everything but just slower plus with the Yoshi exhaust on, It makes me feel like a teenage hooligan again lol

      @@MotorcyclesOffroad This my experience with the Rally. The stock suspension was terrible and the power was adequate. I weight around 220 without gear and stock suspension was way too under sprung for me but I could still live with it. I upgraded the suspension, went with the YSS front spring and YSS fully adjustable rear, 550 performance ECU, Arrow exhaust and DNA filter it completely transformed the bike . Its now a different machine, the suspension now feels better than the T7. I can now cruise at 75mph while even going up grades, before I could barely keep it at 70 and that was with a tail wind LOL. After the mods I absolutely love the bike. I'm averaging around 70/75 mpg if I ride conservatively and get around 65 if I'm pushing it. I highly recommend doing at least the suspension upgrade if you are a heavier rider. The Rally rides so well now that I'm planning on doing a suspension upgrade to the T7. People might look down upon upgrading a motorcycle but I think upgrades are necessary to suit your riding style. It really improves riding experience. The Rally is a great bike for the money.

    Good video! I own a T7 and a Husaberg 550, and I really think they are diferente worlds. Would ask for more power in the honda as I think i would miss the big fun of high power and low weight (125kg) of my husa. Keep doing my friend!

    Thanks - an accurate video. I think what gets a lot of people is not knowing exactly what they want to do on their bike, even with these sorts of comparisons. I had street bikes and the T7 appealed to me for all the positives that you mention - price, simplicity, capability and reliability, plus the ability to get off pavement. But, as you and others have pointed out, I found out it's not great for technical riding, especially without the skills. Picking it up gets old quick. So I bought a 300L to learn the technical aspects of trail riding and it has helped me improve how I ride the T7.
    The two bikes are similar yet very different and they complement each other well. If i had to pick between the 2 it would be very difficult, they are both awesome and fun bikes.
    I grin ear to ear every time I ride either one. Just depends on what I want to do that day. Longer distances - pavement and forest service roads, or having to ride to a trail head and exploring some singletrack or whatever comes along. My advice is to get both :)

    I loved the vid. I also have the t7, but instead of the 300l I would compare it to my drz 400s. I actually laughed out loud when u mentioned the lc4 640....I own one and I honestly fall in love with it every time I ride it less than 20 miles. Lol

    Thank you for this video. I am coming from riding a crf250r and really want something that’s street legal but can handle the OHV trails I am so fond of. I am very curious about both of these bikes and this video was exactly what I was looking for.

      I guess after finishing the video and some consideration it’s probably smarter for me to buy the 300L rally. I was really leaning towards the T7 initially for no other reason than power/weight and overall aesthetics. My current crf250r makes 42 hp and is almost 100lbs lighter than the 300L, so I wasn’t super keen on buying something heavier AND less powerful. I find my bike to be very satisfying on trails, extremely maneuverable and very fast without being too much of a handful. But after watching this video and reading all of these comments about people selling their T7 because it’s too heavy and not confidence inspiring for anybody not named Pol Tarres, I just feel like it’ll be too much bike for the single track trails I love to ride. I do want to do moto-camping, but really just so I can set up camp and hit the trails multiple days in a row. Ultimately I will just have to sacrifice my ego and settle for a “slower” bike in the name of maintenance intervals (probably my only complaint of the 250r is that it feels like I am constantly having to change the oil) and highway capability with a 6 speed (no speedometer but I imagine my 250r caps out at about 65mph). It is what it is.

      I think a 300L rally is a great choice. Its a different style of riding it will definitely be fun and there are some ways to uncork it a bit.

    I am so on the fence between the two bikes and have been for almost a year now. I would eventually like to own both as I feel they are each in their own right a purpose built machine. However, they are characteristically close enough to cross over into the others realm relatively well. As I already own a strictly road oriented bike I am leaning towards the CRF300L first then go from there. Goals.

      that's like being on the fence between buying an f250 or a ranger. both go on the road.. both go on dirt. One is built for pulling 10,000 lb trailer the other for hauling a Christmas tree. If you never really ride hard singletrack , hop across logs, jump. hillclimb, rock garden, etc... then the 700. If you do like to do that stuff then the 300.

      I would say get the 300L first and see how you like it. Its a completely different feel going offraod. I wouldn't want anyone to have their first big chuck of offroad riding on the T7.

      Unless you have done a lot of off road I would stay away from the T7 very tall and top heavy, I can flat foot a CRF300L but only tip toe the T7 not a good first time off road bike. I have many years of road and off road and would not get the T7 for off road. much better bikes out there, weight wise.

      @@hiltonmcconnell2563 Agree with this. The T7 benefits an experienced dirt rider who is comfortable standing a lot off road. Can be ridden like a huge dirt bike at that point keeping some things in mind. It's a lot of momentum and weight to slow down though. Easy to start feeling a little comfortable and roll on the speed. Next thing you know you've tucked the front of your 450 lbs+ bike that lays super flat in some akward position.

    Great video comparison Andrew! I currently own a Tenere 700, a DR650, a KLR650, and an FZ1. I keep throwing around the idea of replacing my KLR with the 300l. A couple more videos like this and I don't think I'll be able to fight the urge!

      You have quite a garage there, all good bikes. I mean the 300L doesnt give you that rush when you rip the throttle but it will feel like a feather compared to those others.

      Why not a KLX300? Sounds like you would be using the T7 more on road/adventure, the new 300 would be used more off-road and has way better suspension out of the box. Unless you plan on throwing money at the Honda. I have a T7 too btw (and a Hypermotard)

    Great content, I've been hoping that honda comes out with a african twin 750 or 850. I'm not holding my breath anymore, the T7 is calling my name. For my 55th birthday my plan is to do the TAT, 30 to 40 days solo. I believe that the T7 will be all I need.

      Well I dont know to be honest. ABS hasnt come into play a lot for me. I dont really slide or panic brake on the road and I always turn it off offroad.

    Based on distances, I ride 95% on road. Based on time on the motorcycle, I ride 95% offroad. When I talk about % road/offroad I always clarify on what metric I am basing it. In my case I went for a small but very capable XTZ 150 instead of a 300-400 cc road oriented bike (almost same engine sizes as the ones you are comparing but with a factor of 0.5). I chose to be a little more patient the 5% of my time on the highway in order to experience a greater joy when I finally get to ride offroad that other 95% of my time. The distances are long here but it was worth it. Once you get to the mountainous regions you can have endless fun off-pavement. Greetings from Argentina. And watched until the end

    Thank you for your review and comparison. I curranty own a 250l rally and was wondering about the T7. but I'm not willing to sacrifice the light off road capabilities of the Honda, so i thing when its time for me to upgrade ill go with ether the CRF450RL or KTM/Husky 500. I'm also wanting to get Supermoto wheels and tires for road (which ill have on 70% of the time), aggressive road legal dirt wheel & tire (when i'm planning on going off road). and also a timber-sled kit for winter so i can ride year round on it. i don't thing the T7 wouldn't work well with the timber sled kit as its heavy and wouldn't out weight the extra HP.

      You are Probably right, Also look into a KTM690 adv or DR650. they are both between the 250L and the T7 on weight.
