My father-in-law would get so annoyed about the doors locking passengers inside the car but refused to change the settings as he thought it was some sort of witchcraft that would damage the car. After 14 years (not exaggerating) of this, he recently sold us the car and I just made this change. Less than a minute of effort and now the doors automatically unlock and the car didn't explode. The sweet sweet taste of victory. Thanks for posting this 10 years ago!
Ah, thank you! I was getting increasingly frustrated having to unlock all my doors to get into my back seat for personal belongings before and after work. This helped a ton!
1) Key out of ignition. Close driver's door. 2) Key in ignition to ON II position (warning lights come on) (5/6 MT models, doesn't matter which gear) 3) Push and hold 'rear' (unlock) of master lock switch on driver's door for 15- 20 seconds. First click, program mode. Second click, driver door unlock feature enabled. Third click, both doors unlock feature is enabled. 4) Release driver door lock switch, turn key to accessory position, and remove key. Hope this works for you. Let me know!
Hi Mitch do you know why when I press and hold the master lock (nothing happens, not clicks) I don't hear the clicks so I can't program it. what can i do if my press and hold of the master lock doesn't work?

For my 2008 Honda Civic I had to leave the car in park for it to work, but I finally got it figured out! Thank you so much! It was seriously annoying me and all my passengers!
perfect, I was wondering how to do it on my 2011 Honda Civic. when I bought it it was set to only unlock the drivers side after this video I am now set to where all doors unlock once I shut off my car. thank you very much very helpful by the way this is my first Honda and I love it
Worked on my 2008 Civic! Thanks! It took me 2 tries because I misunderstood the 1st click to be the (after 5-seconds) click. It wasn't, it was just the standard locking click.
I did the same thru the display settings, but no matter what I did, only three of the doors unlocked, while the left rear door stayed locked; will try your method tomorrow. Thanks for the very detailed explanations !
Is there a way to KEEP all the doors locked when you put it in park? This is the setting I'm looking for. I don't want any of the doors to unlock automatically.
I deliver pizza and have a Honda Accord 2012...I was having too many problems with the automatic doors lock feature....now Im good ! thank you thank you thank you !!!
Gr8t video, thank you. Fory Bride we just have the driver door alone open. Good for theft prevention at a fuel stop when bad guys reach in the passenger side and take stuff. Saw that happen real time and of course called the cops... Thanks for the tips
Wow. Is this in the car manual? I never knew this was a thing. It is really annoying having to unlock doors every time I have passengers. Thanks so much for this information!!!!111 Now I wonder what other hidden features my Honda has. 🤔
You are welcome! Please thank me by Subscribing to my channel!! You never know when you will need my videos. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Please subscribe.
Any idea why this won't work in a 2016 Honda Mobilio? For some reason the car came out of the factory with auto-lock set to "Off". I tried setting it to both "Driver Lock Mode" and "Park Lock Mode" about a dozen times to no avail. Even though I follow the instructions in the user manual and this video exactly, there is never a second click, no matter how long I hold the front of the master door lock switch. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Great news! Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy to hear that my video helped you out. Please like and subscribe. More videos coming soon. Take care.
Do you know if this applies to the trunk as well? Whenever I want to lock or unlock my trunk, I have to get out my keys even after the doors have unlocked.
Do Honda Odysseys come with automatic door locks? How long have they been putting automatic door locks on the Odysseys? The last question is more important to me. It's for a civil case. I'm representing myself.
in my area, it is not safe that my honda automatically unlocks all the door when i unlock the driver side door. i prefer to have it individual like the window--you can individually open or close the window using the driver side control. do you know how to program that for the door?
I just brought my daughter a 2000 Honda Accord coupe and wondered if I could program the car to LOCK automatically when moved into reverse or drive. Is there a way to do that?
Worked on my 2010 Fit - thanks! This has annoyed me ever since I bought the car - if it's going to lock all the doors, then it needs to also unlock them!
Right! I'm trying to figure out how to keep them locked when put in park. Now I know if I ever want to rob someone in a civic just wait for them to put it in park and open any door snd then your mine. These people are so inconvenience over unlocking their own door once they want out blows my mind.
The lights have a sensor in middle of dash ... if it has something spilled on it or covering it, that affects the ambient light to sense the auto light feature.
Hey Mitch thank you, I have a problem with my door lock and lost key less entry and my lock cylinder is broken so when I get out of my car I MUST leave the doors unlocked, problem I had was the doors auto lock and guess what yes I'm now locked out of my car with no way to get in, I had to call roadside assistance to get my door open so my question is how do I TOTALLY disable the auto lock feature so my doors have to stay unlocked. I don't have the money now to get the cylinder replaced and only have the spare key to use any help would be really helpful Thank you
Dan DeadHeadDan hey dan!! You can try this to Turn off Auto Lock 1. Open the driver’s door and put the shifter in Park. 2. Turn the ignition to On (II). 3. Press and hold the lock side of the master lock for about five seconds until you hear two clicks. 4. Within five seconds, turn the ignition to the Lock position.
Working on my accord thanks I got a honda pilot and I tried to program a remote but you can hear the clicks of the programing but remotes doesn't work you got any tips for that 2003 Honda pilot
I just bought a 2005 Honda CRV EX. When I tap the unlock button on my fob once, the front driver side door unlocks. Unfortunately, if I tap the unlock button on my fob more than once, only the back driver side doors unlock. Not any of the passenger side doors. Will this process improve this problem for me?
Hi this works for me only temporary. Am I doing something wrong? The next day I am back to square one, having to constantly turn off the door auto lock feature. Very annoying!
A place i brought my car to once cracked the interior rear door handles because of how annoying this feature is when enabled , it's also responsible for the small waves/dents you see near the exterior handles on most vehicles. I would recommend disabling it before bringing your car in for radio or tinting work unless you want to pay some asshole to damage your car.
8 years later and this video is still a life saver! seriously, thank you
