I was in a rat race for over 40 years until I got laid off. Although feeling betrayed and unappreciated in the first few months, I can tell you now that I was never happier, healthier and more fit that I am right now. I love your videos and after each one, I stop and think more and more that money is not my source of happiness but enjoying every day as I wish. I also realized that less money is better than more. You are inspiring many people, thanks for that.
Thanks for you kind words!! My sister worked for a company where people dedicated their lives to and one day profits got low so they laid off half the people. She said it changed her entire perspective.
I retired at 60 to life a simple life… it’s coming up to 3 years and I’ve never looked back…I don’t have much money but I’m sure happy with the way I live…simply beautiful x
Excellent Austin. You have a great personality and an awesome sense of humor. To me, it seems financial independence is a state of mind. Even if you are broke and homeless, you can be happy. And, you can be a billionaire and still want more. You are right about uncertainty in everything that happens in the world. So, enjoy your life no matter what your financial status. And, "fight for your freedom."
You sir, provide the most realistic viewpoint about financial matters. I really appreciate your balanced and realistic advices. Much love from the Philippines. 🙌
Great video, I think you are spot on. When I first heard about FIRE my reaction was, "okay, so I have to live a life of asceticism for twenty years just for some arbitrary definition of success?" Also with our medical/childcare bills that would be a ridiculous principle amount. $1m would not cut it. Most people just cannot make that work.
1 million can last depending on the age you retire and how you invest, live frugally, no debt, low consumerism, etc. Buying health insurance would protect your nest egg as well.
Great words dear 👌 " As a society we are always preparing for the future... When you are in grade school you are preparing for University when you are in University you are preparing for a career when you are in a career you are preparing for retirement when you are in retirement you are preparing for death ". Enjoy the present 👏👏👏
I’ve been living very frugally for 4 years. Already I’m in the point where I get anxiety when I have to go to a mall: the light, the people, the unnecessary stuff. My point is: how would I suddenly be comfortable ”living my dream” after years and years of certain habits, values and consuming customs? Plus how would I suddenly be ok to spend instead of getting richer? And what if I notice there’s no such thing as my dream life with climate change, mass exctinction and war?
Everytime I watch a video from you Austin, my IQ expands a little. You speak very nicely and your philosophical approach is spot on. As for FIRE I don't believe in numbers, I just want to stretch my money to last as long as possible. Thank you for everything, greetings from North Macedonia.
Another good one, Agustin! I fully appreciate the Show Notes you provide...it is an added piece of work you do which separates your channel from a mediocre one. In essence, you are providing further education beyond your speech. Thanks, as well, for the links you provide. I am thinking about ordering one of the books you enjoy. Being frugal, however, might take me to the public library instead. Thank you for providing a bit *more* to your videos by expounding in your Show Notes. Keep your eyes on the prize (whatever that is for you)...you are well on your way. 🙂
Thanks!! It doesn't take long to write, but I've seen that people appreciate them! I get all my books from the library, too. Mainly because once I finish the book I'd rather not have the clutter. Another good one I just started today is called, "Die With Zero," by Bill Perkins!!
What irks me most about the term : "F.I.R.E." is all the assumptions it makes. Such as: -everyone who aspires to it will want to retire at a specific set age, "independence" means the same thing to everybody everywhere, and 'retirement' is an all or nothing proposition. Also? What does 'early' mean? For some people that is age 25, for others its 70. The idea that there is a 'one size fits all' equation to never worry about money again is ridiculous. The "F.I.R.E" movement is just a fad, nothing more nothing less. Right on, Austin. Great video once again.
Wise advise to not sacrifice the present for the future. Understanding enough and understanding contentment. That is key. You have a gift in expressing these truths. Soon you will write your book.
A good upload. This is something I've been thinking a lot about. Not sure when I will make the leap or what it will be because I'm fed up with saving for the future and not living today.....
One more thought: You're backpacking trip through Europe sounds really cool. I wish I had done that when I was your age. Sounds like you have had a wonderful life so far; it also seems that you are deserving of it. Wishing you a long, healthy and happy future.
Great video. For me, "la libertad" is when I can pay my bills, not have to forcefully get up in the morning to go to a job that I hate under a boss that yells at or plays mind games with me, and when I can take a day off or a week off if necessary without feeling like I might be homeless soon; and if that means to live beneath my means for that peace of mind, it is an insignificant price to pay, in my opinion (which I thankfully have lived that way for about 8 years and never looked back, thank the Lord).
I am glad you are making your following feel good (not being facetious). Having said that, FI is very simply having enough money sitting in assets that are growing in value (averages more than inflation/amount of withdrawal over time) which can be used to support your annual expenses without ever having to “earn”more. Your career choice appears viable for your lifestyle and you have an impressive emergency fund, but you are not FI.
Thank you! Great message on living TODAY. A friend and I just got back from 14 days in Germany and London, carrying back packs only. I should clean out my work mailbox before Monday, but ……ppphhhheeetttttt…..can’t do it. I’ve not found my passion yet that would earn me a bit of $$$$, but the rat race of the daily grind is taking its toll. Congrats on takin the bull by the horn.
Great points and so true. I think the fire movement is a bunch of ****. It makes no sense at all. First off, what's so great about retiring early? Why do you want to retire at all? Working is fun, unless you really hate your job. Find a job that you don't hate. Also, what are you going to do in retirement that you can't do now? Travel to exotic locations? Pick a location and find a job there. It's like the old joke about the guy on vacation who goes out on a boat to fish. The owner of the boat lives a humble existence, and he asks him, doesn't he want more? Like what? Money! For what? So you can retire comfortably. Why? So you can kick back, vacation, go fishing. Already doing that. 😂
Many of my friends was rich and die at 60 from deseases and suicides. At 40 i downsize my busines. Now i work 2 days every month and earn twice that i need for living. I am a free man .
Hi Austin, you always make me smile and laugh. It's great to hear your approach to life, as I live very similar. I seem to be the only person I know living the way I do. I love and enjoy my life, doing the things I want to do, as I live intentionally. I've created the life I want and it's great. Keep up the content! Regards, Catherine
You are cool guy Austin. I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel. Lately I've been watching a couple of "advice" channels on UA-cam. I'm going to add yours to the list. I'll name the playlist "Life Coaches". Keep up the dream!
Awesome video, never considered a lot of these questions and I love the concept of being financially independent for temporary periods of time on your journey there
What I like about you and your videos is that you tell it like it is. Stability really doesn't exist at all times. When we understand how we have been materially brainwashed maybe we can enjoy the time we have left.
That’s a very powerful statement that “financial independence is periodic.” I believe I’m in an “FI state-of-mind” right now! Throughout school I was always good with the grades and ended up 3rd in my class, so I went to a university and, into the second semester, I decided it wasn’t for me; I wonder looking back if that decision partly had to do with group-think idea of always “what’s next” - anyway, I withdrew myself and pursued real estate this past year, and while I didn’t make a ton of money my first year, I made enough to where I could move to a place where I have always wanted to be.. I found a nice little house on a little land with a pretty competitive rental rate! I moved across country and as I am about a week in to my new life, I’m really just living in the moment but feeling secure financially knowing that I have 3 to 4 full months of living expenses saved while I gradually build up my new real estate business in this new-to-me community! Ladies and gentlemen, it feels GOOD. Of course, I have financial goals being that I want to grow my savings but now I know what contentment is really all about, and that even just a little bit can be “enough” - Agustin, your videos really inspire me to keep living below my means even as my income grows, and you remind me of one of my good friends that I met in college who was from Ecuador and was the most humble guy you could ever meet in terms of frugality and personality!
Taking a risk, like you mentioned, to go into the unknown forces you to be completely present in the moment. I know I have enough money for food and shelter for a while and even though I have no idea what next year will bring, I'm fine with that as I'm living each day as it comes! Thanks for sharing your story, Jesse, and I wish you the best! Thanks for supporting my channel!!
Take a shot for everyone "ladies and gentlemen!" Joking aside this is a very thoughtful vidoe. Periodic financial independence is great concept, I have actually lived through but haven't defined it as such.
Thank you for being an inspiration! I dramatically changed my spending habits and views on life ever since I've been watching your videos. My husband said if only he can thank you in person for being a great influence to his newly frugal wife 😂
El Agustin, I fully and truly agree with your thoughts regarding today's topic. Nothing is certain in life. Life isn't certain itself. Non of us know how long we are going to live ( God bless everyone, long life to all of us). But its not in our hands in the end. My personal opinion is,that perhaps the only one type of people that have and maintain strong financial abundance and independence, are old money people. Its generational. Something strong and existing already to 'step on' from previous generations and make it even stronger for the future. Its a strong game, proved in time and it comes with hard work and big responsibility, plus risks despite being fortuned. Risk is there for everybody. And its better to be taken, because a life without it- is a boring and unmotivated life. Is financial independence an illusion? Depends how greedy one is I assume. Regarding the 1mill. .....plenty of people around the world keep dreaming about it. But if tomorrow some magician gift it straight in their hands, they will be overwelmed in a negative way mentally, simply not knowing how to manage it. I know that many people dream to get retired not only from 9-5,but in general retired. They say,I will travel the World, chill, party, pamper myself and loved ones. Its all good why not? But you can't do only this endlessly. Its a human nature, one to feel productive. One way or another. To be of service,to make a difference,to contribute, to achieve,to evolve,to feel needed. Any of it. All of it. In the end, I support taking risks in life, taking action towards a dream/s, towards so called financial independance, towards anything we wish for and think of. But not 'paying' with our happiness, inner balance and harmony, mental and physical health. If we do so with only one intention of achieving financial freedom,we willingly put ourselves in a prison for a lifetime. Be happy, grateful and do the stuff in life with positivism, and maybe financial independence will find you by itself. Gimme, gimme more 🙃🎶🌈....good stuff, bright thoughts, strong will, calm mind, grateful. L&L
Love the FIRE concept & your thoughts. I knew people in the military who saved most of their paycheck over the course of one four year enlistment. It was relatively simple to do because the government covered all basic living expenses. They finished their service with enough $ for a small home or full time school or travel. Some were "white knucklers" who stressed over every penny and some embraced their surroundings and took full advantage of free opportunities
Hello Austin i'm from India. The way you are explaining is amazing and your content is unique and very inspirational and the quotes what you are telling in your vedios are really eye openings to people Iike me.keep going all the best.
Wonderful video and GREAT content!!! I totally see eye to eye with you when you point out that we shouldn ' t sacrifice so much the present life. I do think we can't put a price tag on happiness. It is so nice to have financial security but it doesn't have to refrain us from living. Have you ever thought about a Q&A video?
Buen video Agustín! I've found starting on the FIRE path quite daunting, particularly when you go look at that illusive FIRE number. I think a lot of people can forget to enjoy the present. For me some sort of FI is more what I'm aiming for, to not be dependent on the next paycheck and be able to make choices and more risks. Most people wouldn't be able to reach that million dollar mark, and even if they did - what's next?
haha, yeah! It's interesting because you say something and might be different opinions from people and it's like, "I've never thought about it that way."
I've heard of the FIRE goal. My job offer sounds great. One of the current employees said if you don't mind not having a life, take the job. I'm still debating. My husband has no life because he's always working. He comes home angry and tired. Why not both of us being angry and tired? 😵💫
Problem is, that eaven if you have enough saved, not everyone feel confortable with stocks/index, like me. Real estate works for me better. We have 13 units, tho it is not passiv, we are semi-retired anyway.
FIRE is not only an actual monetary environment, it's also philosophical. I am far from being a multi millionaire. Heck, I don't even think that I am a millionaire. But here is the thing: Working in public higher ed means lifetime retirement. Working on a nice ROTH on the side. I piggied my HSA very well. House planned to be paid off before retirement and no debt whatsoever except my 20 year mortgage. So according to US standards I am supposed to be rich. I sleep well at night. That's FIRE for me. An illusion? Not for me.
Finally a good video about this! Not everybody receive $1000000 dollar loan form daddy, love this! Nobody will ever get rich through FIRE!!!! Yes, it is an illusion!!!
You've got to set yourself up in the first place... Pay off all debts, mortgage, car, credit cards. Right now your average American doesn't even have $400 cash to cover an emergency. If you can become debt free, you're good to go. I'm there and have been for 15 years.
No one speaks about this . Like the image of two very old people standing on the alter to marry……they had waited years for everything to be perfect to marry. Money is no different.
Yeah, simple. Then get 2 jobs, 3 jobs, 4 jobs, or even, 5 however many is needed to earn one enough to pay off debt. How daft can you be? Advocating financial risk-taking is supporting reckless financial decisions. It can land a person in such enormous debt driving the individual to suicide. It's always better to be certain in making financial decisions. Grow a brain.
How long will it take most people to reach financial independence? LOL Or even 1 million? It's definitely not easy for most people, or not as easy as the fire community makes it out to be. Some people are born to fit into the world in a way that gives them an advantage as well, so many things we don't talk about, but those things don't sell as well.
Financial freedom baby! Everyone’s financial freedom is different. Stay away from that fire thing be brave and courageous and go for it asap. Have fun money friends!
I think most FIRE people would agree with you, especially after they reach FI and look back and realize that money just comes and goes and that is a healthier view of money. Having said that, living frugally is freeing and if you happen to achieve FI in the process more power to you! My favorite book on the subject is "Your Money or Your Life" even if you don't approach it as a way to achieve FI it is a great reframe on how to view spending.
Hey dude i like you thats why i never miss a video. I ve noticed lately that you talk like you are acting.. Dude try not to plz.. it s fake. Keep it simple.Keep being the amateur guy next door. Your early videos are just perfect!
Pay one time for a reputable financial advisor and go down that road. I SUSPECT that if you are not well versed in individual stocks and you have your own job, he is going to tell you to put it into a couple of mutual funds. Boring but safe.
@@ElAgustin 🤣🤣 it’s when I wanna give you a comment to help spread the love, but don’t have anything clever to say, witch I guess is quite often 🙈😅🤣 the best with your videos is that they make me reflect and really try to figure out what is important in my life. And the question to “live now or save for later” is a big one, you kinda gotta to both. There is a very good book I would recommend for you, it’s called the broken ladder by Keith Payne, and it makes many interessant points like if you are poor you feel like you don’t have a future, then you are more likely to spend it all, and then stay poor instead of f ex invest. What’s very interesting that FEELING poor can make you do the same bad decisions, so who you compare yourselves to makes a big difference as well. Actually being poor and feeling poor will make you take the same bad decisions. So growing up in an area with big diversity makes it far more likely that your life has a lower quality than if it was more equal, both for the rich and poor. It is based on science and not politically agenda. Check it out :) 🤩🤩

Thanks for your kind words!!
Thanks!!! I appreciate your support!
Well thought out. It's not black and white as to the benefits of not spending anything beyond the bare necessities to reach FIRE.
Most people wouldn't be able to reach that million dollar mark, and even if they did - what's next?
growing up 1,000,000 used to be considered alot of money, it was the holy grail!
You are spot on, thank you 😊
Omg , I can't stop prepare because my day will upside down. I'm so tired of it but I got bit head. Lol hope 1day I can say I have enough 😅.
"TIME is the Currency of Life! * Don't run out! Cajun
CAJUN! Hope you're having a good day...
I love your mindset. It changes.
haha, yeah! It's interesting because you say something and might be different opinions from people and it's like, "I've never thought about it that way."
Many good points, thanks for this great content!
Excellent questions
I've heard of the FIRE goal. My job offer sounds great. One of the current employees said if you don't mind not having a life, take the job. I'm still debating. My husband has no life because he's always working. He comes home angry and tired. Why not both of us being angry and tired? 😵💫
I love your videos. You really make me think.
El Augistin! Very thought provoking. I"m having a lively discussions with myself. Please help.
Thanks! Don't overthink anything! It can get dangerous, haha!
I retired at 34 no regrets lots of sacrifice now lots of free time with my fam and travel
Problem is, that eaven if you have enough saved, not everyone feel confortable with stocks/index, like me. Real estate works for me better. We have 13 units, tho it is not passiv, we are semi-retired anyway.
love this video Austin. Keep making them :)
Thanks, Allison!
Not for me.
How to become a DJ? Press the left button on the start of the Video! Great Video...again!
Not everyone did that for a month
Glad it's working out for you! 👍
Excelente Agustín 👏👏👏
Thank you for this!!

Gracias, Irving!!
Finally a good video about this!
Not everybody receive
$1000000 dollar loan form daddy, love this!
Nobody will ever get rich through FIRE!!!!
Yes, it is an illusion!!!
this is an interesting topic.
Excellent video! Keep them coming! You are just the best! 🤗 👍👌
I appreciate it, Robin!
Good video
You've got to set yourself up in the first place... Pay off all debts, mortgage, car, credit cards. Right now your average American doesn't even have $400 cash to cover an emergency. If you can become debt free, you're good to go. I'm there and have been for 15 years.
Good advice I too love a debt free life
Just FYI, the phrase is, “all of a sudden.“🙂
No one speaks about this .
Like the image of two very old people standing on the alter to marry……they had waited years for everything to be perfect to marry.
Money is no different.
Exactly!
Honestly, actual marriage is beginning to look like this!
“…a small loan of a million dollars from Daddy…” I see you, I see you clearly 👀😂
Great vídeo.
Thanks man
i watch your videos everyday
Why not take a risk, especially if your bills are low? You can always get another job if needed.
Exactly! Have an "abundance mindset" and don't be too scared!
LOL
Or even 1 million? It's definitely not easy for most people, or not as easy as the
fire community makes it out to be. Some people are born to fit into the world in a way that gives them an advantage as well, so many things we don't talk about, but those things don't sell as well.
It not about having milions it is about saving thousands thhrough the year
Financial freedom baby! Everyone’s financial freedom is different. Stay away from that fire thing be brave and courageous and go for it asap. Have fun money friends!
Tomorrow isn't guaranteed!
Is that your apartment. ??? So neat and clean..
I'll take that as a ..... Yes ???
Wisdom ❤🔥
I think most FIRE people would agree with you, especially after they reach FI and look back and realize that money just comes and goes and that is a healthier view of money. Having said that, living frugally is freeing and if you happen to achieve FI in the process more power to you!
My favorite book on the subject is "Your Money or Your Life" even if you don't approach it as a way to achieve FI it is a great reframe on how to view spending.
Yeah, that book really shaped the way I view money!
Financial independence is real, but our money won’t last until we are 100 years old. 🤔
Hey dude i like you thats why i never miss a video. I ve noticed lately that you talk like you are acting.. Dude try not to plz.. it s fake. Keep it simple.Keep being the amateur guy next door. Your early videos are just perfect!
Your advice is appreciated, however...how does Austin keep it real while also showcasing his energetic personality? That is a fine line to walk.
When it comes to investing, what's your say to anyone with over 30k $ looking for the best ways to invest it and as well make good earnings off it?
Pay one time for a reputable financial advisor and go down that road. I SUSPECT that if you are not well versed in individual stocks and you have your own job, he is going to tell you to put it into a couple of mutual funds. Boring but safe.
😂😂give me more 🙌🏻
I've been trying to be extremely consistent with videos and it made me think of that Britney Spears song and I'm like, "I can relate to this." haha
Birth School Work Death....
Wow your 29? I thought you were closer to my age.
❤
🤩🤩
Gotta love Jon's consistent emojis!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Check it out :)
🤩🤩
The only certainty in life is DEATH
🤣
And taxes...
