  • Regardless if you are a History lover or an art aficionado, Arles is a city off of the beaten path you would love to visit. Located in the South of France, not far from Marseille, Arles was the apple of Roman eyes in the province of Gaul due to its strategical location between the Mediterranean shore and the Rhône river. The city fell in Julius Caesar's grace after backing him up against Pompeii and therefore became an important Roman city in the area. We can still witness it in all the Roman monuments still present to the day: the Roman Amphitheatre (a Roman arena resembling the Colosseum), the Roman Theatre, the Cryptoportiques of the Roman Forum and a Roman bath. Definitely a feast for History fans! But Arles was also chosen as home many centuries later by another famous personality: Vincent Van Gogh. He was was fascinated by the Provençal landscapes and painted more than 300 pieces while living in Arles, including famous ones as The Night Cafe, the Yellow Room and Starry Night Over the Rhone. Join us on a walking tour in this well-kept secret of Provence.

Arles: I remember the strong Mistral...And the provencal 🐂 bull fight prelude-running through the streets, all behind the wave breakers... Incredible...

Maybe the Alyscamps are worth a stroll too for some of us. It's a walking distance away from the center and well-known thanks to Van gogh paintings (among others)
