El Pollo Loco is the name of two independent restaurant chains that specialize in Mexican-style grilled chicken. Both were founded by Juan Francisco Ochoa. He established the first El Pollo Loco restaurant in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico in 1974. Ochoa then expanded his chain into the United States in 1980. We asked our Mexican mamás to try the most popular items on the El Pollo Loco menu! They tried items like El Pollo Loco fire grilled chicken, churro, classic tostada salad, El Pollo Loco chicken pozole, Chipotle chicken avocado burrito, El Pollo Loco macaroni and cheese! Would be interesting to have the mamas try each other’s dishes like pozole, tamales, caldos etc but it might make them turn on each other too. They all have varying opinions on the food they try but its someone else’s food so it not personal Some of those “try each other’s” can get vicious 😂

I have to agree with Mom in the dark mustard top, I don’t really care for flour tortillas either. Corn tortillas are so much more flavorful, especially with spicy meats.

Man oh man..El Pollo Loco, for me, too damn Hit or Miss...Since I haven't lived in Southern Cali for many years now, the last time I visited my Dad, he bought a whole big axx meal...WHAT A MEAN DISAPPOINTMENT!! El pollo les salio muy seco y sin sabor! El arroz era pues, arroz y los frijoles, no tan mal..but really, it seems you have to find just the RIGHT location otherwise, they are a WAASSTTEE of MONEYYYYSSS!!!

I actually work in a pollo loco and I'm the person who makes the pico and it's made fresh 😎 and the chicken is grilled fresh and the churros are just frozen and come in a boxes

I grew up eating those family meals almost every week, always chicken, never the other menu items like burritos or tostadas. Saved money, my parents said. Shit I didn't even know they had pozole.

Why do people from Mexico dislike flour tortillas so much? I never understood that. I love flour tortillas and corn tortillas but they really have a dislike for flour tortillas.
From what I understand, it really all depends on what part of the country they’re from. Flour tortillas are much more common in the north so those from the south aren’t as likely to enjoy them.

OMG their chicken, tortilla soup, salsas, rice, beans, loco salad with the cilantro dressing, guac, churros are all amazing!!!The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese don't make sense there though. Prob meant for children ha. They COULD up their tortilla and chip game though!!

Some of the El Pollo Loco stuff is good like a grilled chicken and some of their other item mac-and-cheese not so so much and a few of the other items are not good but so far take out better than than most

I had the luxury of tasting the original chicken in Guasave MX. A family cooks and sells chickens homemade out their home. Best chicken I've ever had.
