- Do Mexican moms like Japanese food? 🇯🇵
Patreon: / mamahvideos
In this episode, the mamahs tried a few Japanese dishes! Among them were a spicy shio ramen, salmon sushi, taiyaki, takoyaki, natto beans, and unadon! Some of the moms had tried these items before, but all of them were taken by surprise when they tried natto for the first time which are fermented soybeans! Unadon was a new dish for the moms to try as well. Unadon is a barbecued eel filet served over a bed of rice. Would you try any of these foods?

What do you guys want to see the mamahs try next?!
Colombian food! 🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴
Idk but them trying Japanese food is cool
European/ French food.
Turkish food!
Portuguese food
Greetings from Japan! Thank you for trying various Japanese foods! You were all very brave trying natto! Natto is something that you either hate or you like it. Even here in Japan, not all Japanese people like it. Also for the taiyaki, we do have other types of fillings here too! Red bean paste is traditional, but you can get your taiyaki filled with almost anything you want. Chocolate, custard, matcha green tea, whipped cream, etc.
Thank you for watching! ❤️ Is natto something that you enjoy?
@@MamahChannel Yes I do like it. It tastes better if you mix it with some shoyu (soy sauce) karashi (hot mustard) and some green onions and eat it over hot steamed rice. It’s very healthy for you. It’s also common to crack a raw egg on top and mix it all together as well.
Taiyaki is a nice little treat being introduced through asian communities in california. There is an ice cream place called somisomi that has taiyaki instead of cones for additional cost. I personally love the red bean but always been a fan of custard in bread. Matcha is an option for one of the ice cream flavors, but I love ube as well.
I tried natto and I did not think it was anything special. I would eat it again if it was offered, but I would not go out of my way for it. I do not understand why people are grossed out by it. Yes, the texture is strange, but there are other common foods with strange textures..
@@nsbioy It’s the texture and the smell that off puts a lot of people. It’s really healthy for you though.
As a latina who grew up with a Japanese step father I knew what was gonna happen when I saw that Natto lmfao ...you gotta mix it with other stuff.
“Am I supposed to taste the ocean” 🤣🤣🤣 Ms Lulu is such a vibe ❤
When she ate the spicy ramen she’s like damn the cook was mad huh 🥵
As a Japanese American, I loved seeing everyone giving everything a try. Also props to the folks who picked these foods because I’d say these are common foods in Japan but not super common outside of Japan unless you’re Japanese. Also you gotta give the natto with something! You typically eat it over rice as part of breakfast. Eating it straight up is a bit intense.
I love eating natto with shibazuke! I also love Unadon with picked daikon, shibazuke, and kimchi. Thank goodness I live where I can find such things. I adore Japanese cooking.
I love the lady in green who talks about seizing opportunity while eating the sushi, I love her outlook I wanna be like her 🥹
shes so gracious. 🥰
Then be like it
The Natto had me dying😂😂😂
Would you be open to trying it? 😅
@@MamahChanneltrying it properly yes! Its like eatin a spoonful of Vegemite or eating 1000 year egg plain! Nobody in those cultures whos soul hasn't left the body long ago does that!
People eat Vegemite extremely thinly spread on a piece of buttery toast, often with poached egg or super thinly sliced sharp cheddar!
1000 year eggs are eaten as a condiment, usually chopped into something like congee (rice soup).
Fermented soy is good for you. 👺👺👺👺
As for Century eggs, if you eat them in a congee a few times, they're no longer offensive. Then you can eat it in a salad or in slices without issue.
Good for them, lots of Japanese people don't like natto either! It's usually mixed with other flavors like soy sauce, hot mustard, on top of rice, etc., not eaten by itself. Also I thought it was really cute the ladies trying chopsticks and eating sushi with a fork, it made me smile.
Lulu is such a vibe - I love when she's on an episode 🙌🏾😊🤭
R u emo?
I replayed the natto part many times because it was so funny. You're all mean for not serving it to them with some rice! 😂
Every time I find a tupper of rotten beans in the fridge, I imagine that's how natto must smell like. But I'm used to have bold flavors and smells, what scares me the most is the texture 😅
If you like bleu cheese you might actually like it, very similar flavor, even better when you add the seasons sauces that come with it, usually wasabi, hot mustard or a tangy soy sauce. And served on rice like typical, the texture isn’t as overwhelming.
I love the neba neba texture.
@@brightwinter9334 it grew on me, at first I could only have a little bit on a huge scoop of rice, but eventually I came to enjoy the stringy sliminess. It’s interesting how regionally specific some texture preferences are, and yet how completely they can be adopted with enough exposure.
@@lakotagrywlf Ikr! I loved it the first time I tried, especially that interesting texture. As for the taste, some brands of natto are more bitter than others, evem with fish sauce and mustard.
The lady who seemed to be looking for the garbage can as she was describing the natto had me cracking up 😅
I am Japanese. All those dishes that the ladies tried didn't look freshly cooked. The takoyaki looks like the frozen takoyaki. Real takoyaki that is freshly cooked is much better. The eels don't taste fishy if it is cleaned and prepared properly. Frozen unagi (Japanese grilled eels) often taste fishy and not as good as unagi you get at a proper unagi restaurant in Japan.
Natto isn't eaten just like that. Japanese people add chopped spring onions, Japanese mustard and soy sauce to natto to make it taste better.
I don’t know what the producers were thinking lol. They’re must be sadistic or something 😂😂😂. Kind of a let down
Btw why is ur name “mom”?
Yeah the nato was a bit like watching people take bites of Surströmming it's a fermented fish and is meant to be eaten on a flat bread almost taco with boiled potatoes, creamy cheese, herbs and greens, and onion. It's something between a condiment and a protein source but like salt or mustard it isn't something one necessarily wants to eat straight
Same with Vegemite too
That was my first thought, too, especially about these sad-looking takoyaki. When they are freshly-made, as street food or festival food, they are fantastic.
lol, and whoever gave them natto without anything to go with it is a sadist 😁
「こんなたこ焼き、犬も食べへんやろう!」と思ったんや。(笑)
THANK GOD they finally got real about some of these foods lmaooo
I love their honesty. ❤
I would like to see the mamas reaction to kombucha drinks.
They've had it! It's titled "Do Mexican Moms Like Kombucha?" ☺️
The Natto portion is TAKING ME OUT 😂😂😂
I love the lady who describes the food like “pretty” and “cute” ❤😂
she was my favorite one haha
3:09 I love how she really wanted to apologize even though she didn’t have to
i hope they can try Indonesian food next!
Yes!
that's kinda risky, cuz probably indonesian food its pretty rare to find it in America etc, even if you find the indonesian food restaurant, i'm not sure the taste will be authentic🤔i hope they got some good authentic indonesian food restaurant there😔
@septianprayoga_ They're in Los Angeles, you can find everything there.
Yes try all the sembal
That’s true in Los Angeles it’s easy to find that how I learned Indonesian
“Down like James Brown!”
Lulu needs to be on every episode!
At what point does she say that?
Yessir another Mamah Upload. This always brights up my day.
To the mamah that suggested nutella / vanilla custard filling in the taiyaki.
Someone please take her to somi somi. Its an ice cream store but they sell taiyaki with those fillings in it.
Isn’t that Korean tho?
My grandkids like Nutella in their taiyaki. I bought my son a taiyaki pan that makes 2 at a time. I like matcha cream in mine.
Some of the moms were complaining the natto had no flavor. Those natto packs usually come with mustard and shoyu to mix in.
Alma has such a nice vibe.. pls more of her
That lady with the tattoo on her neck, I loooove her!!! I think she’s so cool and badass!!! What’s her name pls? Sorry if I missed it 😅
That's Ms. Lulu 😎
When I was in college, the anime club had a natto eating contest. After the contest was over, anyone who wanted to try the leftover natto was welcome to do so. I tried it and immediately said "It tastes like @$$." When our club president said that some people like to eat it with mustard, I gave it a try. One club member asked me, "How does it taste now?" and I replied, "Like @$$ with mustard!"
I want them to cook a Mexican dish and try each others ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Are you wanting a War?! 😂
LOVE this channel and mamahs!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
I love all the mamas!!! But the one that definitely defines my own mother is definitely miss Xóchitl!!!!! Always gives a bad review unless she made it and I love it!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Haha the natto! It’s controversial even in Japan! My Bachans favourite thing to tell her friends who visit from Japan is that her grandkid (me) loves natto so that’s her proof I’m really Japanese
Natto was introduced to me by my Japanese roommate as, “You’re not going to like it. Many people in Japan don’t like it either.” 🤣🤣🤣 I did not care for it. Better leave more natto for my friend.
The green blouse mama is my favourite, she's very descriptive and knowledgeable about food
10:36 has me in tears 😂😂😂
I am Japanese. The combination of natto and butter is the best😂
What about Mexican moms try the most eaten food in each country/or state?
Am I supposed to like it?! Ms LuLu won the internet today !
I need the Mexican grandmothers to get together with the Japanese grandmothers and come up with the best fusion ever.
unagi is SOO good, but their idea of an eel taco sounds equally delicious
The chicana lady had me rolling the whole time 😂
These ladies are so hilarious 😂
I remembered never liking sushi. Hated it, but started off the fried one before I went to raw sushi and now I can not stop eating the raw sushi and hate eating fried sushi
Señora Alma es una ternura. Que dijo de “Y todas las experiencias que uno tiene en la vida… ay que aprovecharlas”
The one mama who gagged had me laughing so hard. She reminds me of my Mexican Mamacita.
Ya'll better watch your back cuz Lulu's going to get ya'll for making her eat that 😂😂😂...
Are any of the mamah's married to the papah's?! is it in a video ive missed lol
I want to take a guess the lady with the tattoos here is married to the guy who speaks suave English (sorry forget their names)
Maybe you know 😂
Right I thought the same thing! if not they would probably be a pretty good match lol
@@thatgirl9532
Yall did mamas dirty on the Nattō.... wow they are brave to even open that. 🤣🤣🤣
These Queens make me feel like I’m sitting around a kitchen with my mommy and my tias.
Not me watching the video while having natto on rice and miso soup for breakfast 😂😂😂😂
These Japanese food looks sad 😂 Did you guys cook them yourselves?
I would be disappointed if I have to try my first Japanese food like this
Can the producers of the channel please give directions on HOW to properly enjoy a dish!! I think that would help the ladies a ton!
Personally, I feel that a lot of Latina mothers - although, this can apply to any people of any race or ethnicity - should be more like Ceci (12:02) when it comes to trying new food. You may not like it but DO FOSTER trying new food, not discourage them. I wanted to laugh when the other moms said no to that question, but it saddens my heart at the same time.
Personally, I feel like you might be too sensitive.
I cannot believe natto was selected for them!
Xochitl's "Ah, porquería" was so funny hahahahahahaha
"Does that look appetizing to you?"
"No, it does NOT!" 🤪
LOVE taiyaki and okonomiyaki! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Have you tried natto beans?
@@MamahChannel yep. Not My favorite
personally Unadon is my favorite japanese dish, i love eel
Love this channel so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️🫶🏼
Thanks for watching!! 😍
"I don't like it.. Am i supposed to like it?"😂😂😂
I would never eat natto unseasoned and without rice. It’s very (too) strong like a really pungent funky bleu cheese that you want to eat with something else to mellow it out. I love it when done right, umeboshi, or hot mustard, mirin, and soy and on a bed of hot rice to spread out the flavor.
where do you guys get these japanese dishes? they looked sooooooooo badly cooked! Did they burn those takoyaki and taiyaki?! jeez!
There’s people that are just comfortable in their own tastes and food world…I’m a southeast Asian man..my foods are spicy with intense flavors…but I was blessed enough to travel to so many places and eat so much foods around the world..and my conclusion is that I don’t have a favorite, I love all kinds of foods.. have a palate for all sorts of foods..blood, guts, I don’t discriminate.. will eat it!!
Eel tacos . The fusion we need
Alma es todo un amor. Me encanta como expresa su respeto y apreciación de la comida y la cultura japonesa, pero todas tienen su propia personalidad. Que gusto poder conocerlas, aunque sea por este medio
This video was to good specially with the natto🤣
I loved the moms that didn't like the natto but were still open to the idea that maybe it could be made better
The natto tasting had me cracking up.😂
If I'm not mistaken the dough in takoyaki is the same type of dough you'd use for pancakes or even crepes.
Fermented beans is an acquired taste 😂 not all Japanese people like it as well. And there are several ways to eat it rather than eating just by itself))
Btw, all the ladies are absolutely beautiful)) but the one in gray printer blouse made me think of Monica Bellucci ❤
it's interesting to see considering Mexican and Japanese food are both amazing but almost night and day different
Me love sushi! I love tuna, salmon, shrimp, etc 😋
I love Japanese cuisine so much! One of the things I really want to try it Japanese traditional Wagashi. Those are pretty hard to get.
I hope they try Cuban food. 🇨🇺
I love these videos keep it up!
“All the experiences one has in life you have to take advantage of them”
Mama was sounding like bubba gump for a second🤣
I'd like to see them try Nicaraguan foods, some of which are similar to Mexican foods. I'd especially like to see them try nacatamales. Or do a tamale episode, where they try different tamales from throughout Latin America. (i.e.: Mexican tamales, nacatamales, pasteles de masa, hallacas, etc).
Mamah fills my heart!
I think less comments per food and more different foods tried is more entertaining.
Damn!! You gave them Natto as-is. LOL. It's great on rice. I love Natto!!
They should've also brought Curry! With Katsu ❤
“Am I taking the plate?” 😂😂😂hell yes
lulu needs to have her own show
Unadon is my FAVORITE!!!
not to be such a lesbain but i am absolutely in awe of the tatted mommy
bravo to the mamas that used chopsticks. I like getting an extra pair at asian spots to use at home when I have maruchan/cup noodles.
After I saw the Jamaican episode I came straight to Japanese food… I knew what to expect 😂😂😂
Japan and the Japanese people hold a very special place in my heart especially Takeda Shingen.
Just a note, natto has different varieties ranging from flavored to nearly no flavor at all and even then it will vary from person to person. It should be eaten with hot rice. It is off putting to most people, but if you add it to a well prepared miso soup it takes away most of the weird smell and texture though it gives the soup “more body?…” is the best way I can describe it.
Ooo an eel taco... Tbh it sounds very LA 🤣
Natto is mixed with sweet soy sauce and hot mustard and then eaten with rice, no?
Yess
From a Mexican who favorite dish it is teriyaki eel . It is a flavor you need time to appreciate.
Ya'll did Mamah's wrong with the Natto.
Someone could maybe have have suggested adding some ginger to the salmon nigiri (not "sushi")
All the ladies are so cute and good sports😊. Sra Alma is so positive and open to trying , I like listening to her comments.❤
I know they had puertorican snacks, but they should try the food.
I watched just to see the face she made happen in real time, plus I love these ladies ❤
La Tia Alama es la vida!
lol definitely for a Latino taste like ourselves natto is weird af but I learned to love it, with a little bit of soy sauce and sesame oil
I actually really like natto. It’s like eating slimy mustard beans
Now that I've seen six Mexican mamahs try natto and hate it ... I want to try it!
