- My first Autosolo since completing all the modifications to my Mini JCW Roadster was a wet affair. Ruby was awesome and proved to be fast, nimble and utterly brilliant at Autosoloing !
I not only won my class but also won overall, even beating four wheel drive cars like the AMG A45 !

My Dad used to do these back in the 60’s (They were called Autotests then) and it was his way of competing in Motorsport at a very affordable cost too - He loved it - everyone involved were real enthusiasts and this brought back fond memories of spending great times with my Dad - Thanks Pete ! 😃👍
Autotests and Autosolos are slightly different I think. Autotests are the harder one’s that involve going backwards and handbrake turns etc. Would love to try one of those 😜😂
Come to think of it Pete you’re absolutely right - Dad had a weird ‘gizmo knob’ on the steering wheel so that he could rotate with one hand in a hurry - forgot about that 😀
Those of us who regularly compete in Autotests see a 'steering aid' (ball on the steering wheel) as kind of cheating unless you have a medical reason or disability that makes it necessary.

Peter, I love that you included your adrenaline shakes, I get exactly the same thing after each run. I have tried to explain to friends & family what it’s like to do an Autosolo, but the only way to properly get the feel of it would to be in a car. Mate, that adrenaline buzz has to be experienced to be believed doesn’t it?

Great stuff Peter, the low stance of the Mini and the magic diff does the trick. I used to do autotesting 30yrs ago in several old Mini's and they were great fun. Autosolo events are picking up and with no reversing means they are a bit more kinder on the gearbox. 👍

Do they have events like this in the States ?
Yes we have events called autocross. It’s a solo time attack that’s divided into classes.
Congratulations mate. The upgrades on the car have proved their worth and I’m sure the racing you have done this year have helped develop your technique.

Winning at Goodwood ... well done! Did something similar but on a much smaller scale at the Italian Job day back in August and enjoyed it. Might have to look into doing one of these next year.

Agree Autosolo great way to enjoy yourself without spending a fortune. My very first event many moons ago when they were called Driving Tests, was a Motoring News championship event, modified 850 Mini took Class Award & FTD! Tried Autosolo more recently when I had my Morgan Plus 8. I was rubbish only managed 1 clean run all day. Dented pride at end of day and badly bruised right arm, not the right car for Autosolo.😂😂😂

Yes, but the rules state that forced induction cars have their engine capacity multiplied by 1.4 to put them into their class hence the 2 litre 😡

Sorry to mention this Pete !!!!!!!! but I do think that in order to gain a much better lap time you should have, checked your mirror signalled and then manoeuvred before setting off ( as per 1960`s highway code ) and most importantly kept your hands on the steering wheel at 10 o`clock and 2 o`clock 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Never knew the mini JCW was a 2.0l engine
It’s not. It’s a 1.6 but because it’s turbo charged they multiply engine capacity by 1.4 to put you in a category 😥
