40:46 you’re telling me, Baldwin ran from Wicker Park all the way to Brighton Park? Dude is fast. 😆😆. Keep up the good work man. Be careful on the South Side there guy.
This was awesome! DeNiro played my Dad, the real CFD arson investigator, Don Rimgale. Was hoping you'd capture the building (Wozniak's) where Kurt Russell decks the guy for dancing with Rebecca DeMornay. Maybe next time! Thank you for sharing this!!!
Hi Becky, I’m retired from 35 years with the FD. Very cool that your dad had a cameo in the movie. He was a big man, and handed the folded flag to Lt. McCaffrey’s widow. I think that’s the way it happened. Been a while.
I just remembered forgot to wonder like what about that ballroom where they had that Retirement party. Kurt smacked him more because he was talking smack about his brother.
Love this movie! I remember watching with my mom and she was trying not to cry and I looked over and asked what she was doing? Are trying to blow the fire out lol! I wish she was still here. 😇❤
It's crazy how movie's have a way of being nostalgic, me & my bro watched a bunch of movie's as kid's in the 80's & 90's, my bro passed away om Halloween 2014 & whenever I watch a movie we watched together it bring's back so many memories of him...🙏🏽🕯🕊
Epic man, just epic. Backdraft is one of those early 90s classics that will never get old. You can always watch Ray Liotta and Kurt Russell run into a burning building. Oh wait, Liotta wasn't in this one. Oh well.
Video very accurate from Chicago Tourist and friend I was Facility manager for the engineers and maintenance guys that set up ..6 for closed surgery floor in fight scene...we rebuilt back to1950. Colors and installed break away doors Kurt n Brian went thru.. The sign behind door is made of Foam painted like steel...one carpenter and maintenance employee made it two days.... It was a good movie for our CFD heroes, I believe you did a great job. Great video! Backdraft is one of my favorite films of the early 90's. It was among the first movies that I saw with my new bride. Great film, and great soundtrack.
I haven't been to Chicago in a long time. I was last there as a kid when they were filming the movie and had my picture taken with Kurt Russell. My brother went a couple years back for St. Patricks Day, and found the bar from right after the 70's scene when Brian gets his station assignment. He called me on Facetime and said "Can you guess where I am at?" and as soon as he flipped the camera I said "You f**ker! You're at the bar from Backdraft!" He laughed, and told me he knew that was gonna be too easy for me. I'd love to be able to visit all the filming locations one of these days. Amazing to see how little many areas changed and how much some of them did.
The most recognized engine from the movie would be Engine 17. Engine 17 started service with the Chicago Fire Department in July of 1970. This1970 Ward LaFrance Pumper was first assigned to Engine Co. 8. The pumper was later assigned to Engine 18. In 1987, it was refurbed with a Ranger cab and E-One body before it was given to Ron Howard's production group in July of 1990. Ron Howard used Engine 18 (portrayed as Engines 17 & 51 in the movie) until February of 1991. After the filming of the movie, the apparatus was given to Engine 69 were it remained in-service until 1995 when it was disposed of.
Great tour thanks! Passed thru Chicago for the first time ever last summer. With Backdraft being my childhood/lifelong favorite movie, I naturally had to make the pilgrimage to the Backdraft main firehouse and even got to have one of their station t-shirts. Great folks there! Thanks again
Thank you for taking the time to research these locations! I’m retired from the FD and have a couple of buddies that we’re in the movie. Great video sir!
Dude, I did not realize the Alderman's house was in Hinsdale. I was in Vegas and Tampa Jay is five 5 minutes from my house in Hinsdales. Thanks for making Chicago look beautiful. Awesome, Awesome!
I even stopped at the shell station around the corner and got a Monster! Your neighborhood is super nice, loved it and Chicago! Thank you! I hope you had good luck in vegas!

As a volunteer firefighter who grew up watching this movie this is so cool also thanks for dedicating it to all the first responders, also I’m impressed you knew some of the firefighters tools great research 👍🏻
Thanks Matty! I’m really happy to hear you enjoyed it, I know there’s a lot of what they call “Hollywood” in this movie as far as firefighting but I too have always appreciated it but because sadly there are just not a lot of movies that have ever been made that salute the firemen as much as this one. Thanks so much for watching and thanks more for your service.
Brilliant video. This was good timing, I only just watched Backdraft again recently after not seeing it for years. Cracking movie and thanks for another comprehensive set of filming locations. Stay safe Sir.

Backdraft is my favorite movie and this is an awesome video worthy of inclusion as a DVD extra. Thanks for doing this! How much research went into this particular video and how were you able to find the exact addresses of the various locations? The fire stations would be easy enough to find out but the more obscure things like Kurt Russell's house or Brian's apartment etc. seem impossible to know let alone find out.
Hi Tampa Jay! Enjoyed the video of the Backdraft locations. However, I wanted to correct something you described at 8:21. Little Brian was not standing at the location that you said. In 1990 I was working as a Patrolman on the cities west side in Austin, the 15th District. The scene of little Brian took place at the SW corner of Lake and Central. He was actually looking up at the "L" tracks. I know this, because my Captain asked me to drive him to the location to see the filming. When we arrived, we were able to see the filming and afterward met Ron Howard. Who was a real gentleman. It shows how passionate you are in what you do. Just thought additional info might help. Thanks.
Welcome Jay to my home town Chicago! Hope that you had a great time here. For some reason not to many vlogers come here. If you like Chicago Outfit mobsters you can vlog both Mt Carmel and Queen of Heaven Cemeteries in the Chicago suburbs Hillside. They are across the street from each other. All the famous gangsters are there. You were at 54th and Morgan. When I was born my mom had a beauty shop at 51st and Morgan where I lived. The building from Batman is owned by the Kennedy family, Chris Kennedy runs it. The Green Mill bar was owned by Al Capone. I grew up very near Hinsdale. The Merchandise mart. Jay you did a very excellent job 👏

This film has stood the test of time. In my opinion was robbed of many awards. The sound design and effects for the Era are amazing for that time. Do yourself a favor. Before you die...watch this on a 55+ inch TV with Dolby Atmos and or DTS OR Dolby Digital. You'll thank me later. I can't watch the last 15 minutes of this. Get choked up Everytime never fails. True fucking warriors and heroes.
It was like going on a trip with you to Chicago. You went to a lot of places for your first time in Chicago. Thank you for a great time and we didn't get to watch you each Chicago Deep Dish Pizza! Keep these great videos coming, Jay!
Nice job Jay. I worked on the film a vendor and went to the Chicago Studio's on the south side of Chicago. It was there they did the close up scenes in the back warehouse for the last big fire, plus some other scenes like the elevator scene where Billy Baldwins character was stuck in water (the elevator was built on location, so they could get all the angles shots they wanted and control the water better). There was also a room built upside down, so when the flames were lit, it would be in a row like a BBQ has them, and then when gravity took over, it gave the impression of the flames coming across the floor attacking. In the big scene at the end, you can see black strapping around the 55 gallon drums (stacked two high on pallets). OSHA made them add the strapping so they asked me if I had any for them and it was used that day for filming.
Hi, I am a former ambulance driver in Italy. I love the movie (it is one of my favourite) and congratulations for the video. Nowadays I use to follow "Chicago Fire". Hope to visit USA as soon as the pandemic situations ends.

Outstanding Jay! I was a teenager living in South Tampa when I first watched that movie in 1992, I became a Firefighter in 95' and just hit my 26 year mark on the fire department.
@@TampaJay thank you @Tampa Jay, trying to move from NJ to Florida as we speak.. 🤣 . Looks like Lakeland for me and my family.. buying a second home then eventually moving in and becoming a Florida resident, once I get there and settled.... I'd like to buy you Guinness.. by the way I watched you play guitar and sing in a video , you got a pretty good voice my friend. I think it's when you were doing a Tom Petty tribute, anyway you played good and you sang good.. being a musician for 30+ years I thought it was pretty cool.
@@TampaJay not a stalker Tampa Jay, 😂 I just enjoy your content and hoping one day I can buy you a Guinness. You give me a lot of information on Florida, I also enjoy your filming locations. And even your White Castle video, 😂 6 hours for White castle's man, I don't know.
Don’t know the movie buddy , but this was interesting. Wow that skyline and the lake!!! Wonder if movie is on Netflix? Amazing house on Elm st , kinda creepy. Dope car! Powerful final scene. Thanks TJ
Thanks Jay! Did you get Lou Malnati's? I always wanted to go there just for the pizza! That restaurant looked nice. Don't doubt yourself Jay!! Try nice restaurants sometimes!

I grew up around the corner from Swayzak's house. I was either 7 or 8 when they were there filming and it was so exciting to ride our bikes over there to watch! A year or two later, Dennis the Menace was shot at a couple places nearby, as well as a few insurance commercials (one of which used our house!) So cool to see familiar places. Thanks for the video! Edit: Oh look you got the end of my street at 47:16! Edit 2: ......and you might have filmed my mom in her Subaru...................can't quite tell if it's her but that looks like her car hahaha!
Dude that’s so awesome and funny ha ha that very well could have been her. I didn’t realize Dennis the Menace was filmed there, I totally can see that now. Thanks for watching Cody I’m glad you found the video. You live in a vey nice neighborhood it was awesome

Lakeland is a great choice. It’s in the center of everything and more affordable. I hope you guys have a smooth move.
Happy you enjoyed that video that was a very special day thanks man
@@TampaJay not a stalker Tampa Jay, 😂 I just enjoy your content and hoping one day I can buy you a Guinness. You give me a lot of information on Florida, I also enjoy your filming locations. And even your White Castle video, 😂 6 hours for White castle's man, I don't know.

TJ! Where ya been brother. Congratulations on 30k
Thanks Mike. This video began last Monday with all the research, took my time on this one.
@@TampaJay Curly Sue, Only The Lonely, Adventures In Babysitting, Blink, What Women Want, My Best Friend's Wedding, and Flatliners were filmed in Chicago, too.
That was a great film TJ.
