Europe was not ready for this, he ended up as number 18. In my opinion he was by far the best.
Yeah I was really hyped about him, but really country or country rock especially just doesn't have much of a chance of success in Eurovision.
Hé made a big mistake with his grazy outfit and stupid dancers.
If hé did this version like this hé good have won.
Besides the crazy dancers, they couldn't do the extended version here where they really rock in the end. So it ended up being a somewhat catchy, but standard song. The live perfomance at DWDD (this one) and in The Vorstin are way better, more rocky, more edgy. If he just could have done that one, instead of the polished version they did at the Eurovision, he would have ended higher

If you do some Waylon you also have to do some Ilse de Lange. They had a band together called The Common Linnets but they split up a couple of years ago. Her voice is a bit less powerful than Glennis or Davina but she might be one of the best "storytellers" through music and her voice has that "twang" that really grips you. "The Great Escape" is a good introduction to her work. Hope you can make......another.....fine....reaction video to it.

Waylon is trully underrated as a Dutch artist. It is sad to see that country music does not work in the Netherlands or even Europe. Unfortunatly for him he was born in the wrong country.

Waylon is named after Waylon Jennings and I'm not mistaken he lived with Waylon Jennings when he was young. Look him up on UA-cam, he did some amazing stuff!!

Oh sweeties, he has been over by y'all.
He was supposed to record an album in Nashville but it never came out, this was in 1997. In 2001 he was in the US for a year. In that year he has been on the show of and worked with Waylon Jennings, his idol. (Wikipedia)
But unfortunately that was it, for the moment at least. Who knows in the future...

I knew you guys would love him, he's a great singer, great performer, has that swag, has that attitude and has the look (and the voice ofc, quite an important part lol)
The thing with the Dutch music scene is, they are still allowed to make their own music, most isnt overproduced crap that all sounds alike, and more importantly, our radio stations still play all types of music.
Now ofc the USA still has a leading role in music, but these last 10 years or so, have been "too much of the same" because it sells, and radio stations dont really play the lesser known artists anymore (unless they get ungodly amounts of money to play those lesser know artists).
That is a shame, a big shame to me because you guys have some amazing talent running around as well, but they dont get the recognition they deserve because the big record labels are not behind them.
Two names that come to mind right away are Haley Reinhart and Morgan James, boy are those ladies good, they blow away 95% of the singers that do get radio play all the time, but they are not backed by rich labels so you simply dont hear much from them in your every day life. (btw, do check those ladies out, you wont be disappointed)
And frankly, if i go by most American reaction channels... i notice a trend, each and every single one of them, love these real musicians and wish they had that type of music on the radio.
So maybe the time is ready for a change to actual musicians again? I sure hope so because most American pop today.. sounds exactly the same and isnt special at all. (thats what you get when all pop music is produced by the same 3 guys)
Ah well, time will tell and in the mean time, us Dutchies will keep sharing our talents with the world, and see what sticks hehehe

About Anouk.. she was not a singer in Golden Earring...😂... she was in diapers still when they had their hits! The lead singer of Golden Earring, Barry Hay, wrote a song ‘Mood Indigo’ for her in 1996. Her 2nd single, Nobody’s Wife, was her big breakthrough in 1997.

Problem really is that the American Country Music & all off their institutions, keep foreign artists outside.
For the same reason you guys also mentioned: They might BE TO GOOD.
Maybe it's a kind of protection, for American (country/rock stars) because they would be out off work.....
This kind off fresh country music blood, could shake down the old elite that's been around for 30 years or more.
+65love45 - In the past that number one songs was determined by various radio stations, it was a distributed effort. Then on the first of August 1981 the worse thing happened for music, MTV. It was a notorious monopoly. If some marketing guy didn't find you "marketable" then you didn't get airtime period. If you didn't get airtime, you just didn't make it. The music industry was never about signing up talent, but more about self-gain with political influences. A singer with the name "Barry Hay" from the Golden Earring, that name just rolls off the tongue a lot easier than a name like "Ilse de Lange" which for the Southern part of the U.S. just sounds too foreign. It's not marketable. Waylon did a smart thing by using an alias. Through the years the greed in the music industry has become a lot worse with the digitals, i.e. Spotify.

The Eurovision Song Contest (I'll make it short ESC hereafter) makes me question the taste of music in Europe, or at least of those who vote on ESC...

You might wanna dive into the history of the southern and Midwestern people to understand how you got your accent and where country music originated and how country music developed. I'll give a hint; farmers from west Germany and the Netherlands, more specifically; Lower or Nether-Saxony moving to the 'new world'. Chances are you two got lots of distant relatives over here. Although you seem more Celtic, but still; southerners from the US are very much like the people from nowadays Lower-Saxony.
