Hope this helps if you are just starting to work on soloing over your rhythm changes progressions. Let me know if you have any questions 🎸

The reason I like your lessons so much, Andy, is because you make them so accessible for all levels of player from intermediate to advanced. I also like the way you always anchor your improvisation riffs to theory without laying it on too thick to dissuade players from using the ideas in practice. (I happen to like the theory bits, though :-) ). Many thanks.

Great lesson. This song is not easy as it is often played at a fast tempo. Pat martino's version of oleo (live at yoshi) is amazing ;) Thank a lot Andy.

Thanks Jamie. Yes, that Martino version is amazing. Oelo is a fun one too, the head is so syncopated.

Great lesson! Question: does playing what you hear come naturally to you or did you really have to work on it? If you worked on it, what specific practice helped you? I know this a big question, so no worries if it's too broad to address here. Thanks as always for your insights!

Hey Tito, I could address it my next Q&A.
But broadly speaking it came from:
*practicing arpeggios/scales paired with ear training/internalising the sound of them.
*Ear training so that you can hear the main intervals of the chord eg. can you hear the 135and 7 as possible start notes
*Learning vocabulary - I don't have a great memory, but phrases do come out that I've heard or previously learnt.
If you practice chord tones in as many ways as possible you start to hear more and more possibilities! I'll dig into this more in the q and a. Singing what you play really helps too.

@@jazzguitarwithandy thanks, Andy, this is really helpful! Something I've not worked on enough because it's a struggle for me. That would be great if there was interest from enough people about playing what you hear to address on a Q&A. 👍
