1. Find your home
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from New York University in 1991.
2. Follow your curiosity
She wrote of her experience as a cook on a dude ranch in short stories.
3. Check in with your soul
She was the first unpublished short story writer to debut in Esquire since Norman Mailer.
4. Don't expect to have balance
As stated in the memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Gilbert made a career as a highly paid freelance writer.
5. Find your path
Her first book Pilgrims, received the Pushcart Prize and was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award.
6. Don't blow the stakes up
In 2002, she published The Last American Man, which was nominated for National Book Award.
7. Find inner peace
She first appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2007.
8. Don't be childish
She was named amongst Time 100 most influential people in the world, by TIME magazine.

She has said she was particularly influenced by Charles Dickens, and has noted this in many interviews.

Her book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, provides instructions on how to live a life as creative as hers.

I love her dialogue with Fear. She outlined that really well in Big Magic. It has helped me immensely. Stop pretending that fear is going to go away on it's own - allow it, welcome it, thank it, explain to it what you are doing. Thank you for this compilation of Elizabeth Gilbert's wisdom! The whole idea of living in curiosity just that tiny bit more than living in fear really resonated with me. I have to say, my inspiration now (aside from Ms. Gilbert) is living life like a cat...famously curious and yet always afraid. Curiosity, as the saying goes, may have killed the cat, but the cat lived its life to the fullest, and following our own creativity will not (in all likelihood) kill us. :-)

This is great - # 8 and #10 are my main take-a-ways. And I would make a new #1 - MERCY. The narrative at the end of the clip about having mercy on your past self -s by far the most excellent part. We do the best with can with what we have and know in any given time....I would add Trust the universe will utilize whatever you give it, but it can't give you the gifts (learning process) unless you move forward, and through the fear that your ego loves to swim in. Go for it - Fiorgive, have mercy on the past person, and mercy on those around you who are still learning too.

Elizabeth Gilbert is my idol and inspiration. She's the most amazing person and I admire her honesty, uniqueness, and I'm a writer and if I can even compare to her honesty and moral, and how she knows exactly who she is, her life experiences, and overall lifes motto, following her dreams and not being afraid to show the world I would die happily. My style of writing is similar and I want to have her deep self like, self respect, and she does exactly what she needs for herself and does it . I can only dream to have a glimpse of her style I know I'd be a true storyteller author writing from life experiences. I write mainly non fiction because I've learned so much already and I want to help people who have been lost, find myself and show the world how I am ME and I'm afraid to shred my skin and show the world my soul in hopes to be half of the inspiration she is!
