In my experience, marriage counseling works better AFTER individual counseling has been done by both parties.

This conversation hit HOME for me. I have been the controlling one. Between my mom (a boomer) moving in with us and the control issues I've had, my marriage has nearly crumbled. My husband has felt emasculated and has not led our household in years. We are both fighting desperately for our marriage, especially for our children. I am doing the work on myself and am beginning to see changes. Thank you for this authentic and vulnerable conversation.

Yes it's not about agreeing about everything, but appreciating each other. I can see how that creates a better environment for everyone. Thanks !

The next conversation should be how do you become less controlling when the husband doesn't want to lead. I believe alot of women are being forced to be controlling due to husband being too laid back and not leading.

Report it and register your Desires at the throne of God. Stay in your lane still, mind your business still and play your own role still. With that he'll definitely rise to the occasion

It's not that the husband is laid back, you're just too controlling. The Bible doesn't say that a woman is supposed to take control. If your husband is laid back, you have to submit to his laid back behavior. Otherwise, why did you get married to him? Why marry someone you won't submit to?

How do you practically step back when you are actively a controller or you like to lead.. as a wife?

Lord I pray that your statement doesn’t deter couples from seeking marriage counseling. Sounds like you need to shop around.

Agreed. Individual couple then couples counseling but not all therapist are created equal. Counseling isnt "trash" at all.
