The Forgotten History of Reboot

Vergil, waifus, and stands are real.
For years we have waited, well... “don’t bother” posted from a employee from Rainmaker.
He posted on 4chan anonymously and it has now since been deleted:
(Note: the punctuation or lack-thereof is the same as in the post. I just typed it out.)
"I feel you guys deserve an explanation and since I can't talk publicly about this without putting my job in danger I'll post this here where everyone will think I'm larping. Everybody that was working on this show knew this backlash was coming but Hefferon has his head so far up his ass he wouldn't listen to anybody and nobody could tell him to smarten up since he owns the whole company any idea he came up with was put in no matter how stupid, hell sometimes he brought his kid into reviews and had the kid give notes, also fun fact the main character shares a name with his kid and the main character's father's name is the name of his assistant. The production itself was a massive disaster as well, Hefferon got sold on using the unreal engine for lighting and rendering the series despite rainmaker having a superb traditional CG pipeline because the first ReBoot was the first CG show on TV he wanted to make this show a first as well so the first unreal game engine show on TV.
"To compound that problem those of us that came over from a traditional pipeline were given next to no training in unreal so we are figuring it out as we went along, the guy that was supposed to be the big know it all guy about unreal ended up being completely incompetent at his job but was great at kissing Michael's ass and creating conflicts by going behind the art and animation director's backs. Also wouldn't be surprised if a # MeToo story comes out about this guy as he was just creepy in general with the girls on the team. The project also went through a number of different art directors as they got fed up and quit due to the related issues this of course caused a lot of issues to the point where most environments in the show were just improvised off of single concept images. Also in the trailer you might notice some of the CG shots look extremely crappy and some look good, here's why that is. The creepy kiss up guy from earlier convinced Hefferon early on that reboot wouldn't need a team of lighters since "The game engine will do that automatically for us." So for the first few episodes there was no team dedicated to lighting the shots so it fell to the world builders to light those episodes and as no world building had any lighting experience you can see the results, after those episodes were complete they finally came to the realization that you actually need lighters to get good TV show level lighting so they hastily hired a team of lighters but because it was so late in the production schedule they had to hire basically anybody that applied so that means the majority of the lighters were straight out of school, and I don't think they finished up hiring that team till episode 11 or 12. Another reason for the crappy looking CG is because there was absolutely no training provided to the surfacing team on how shaders in unreal work, so you had them going in blind muddling their way through trying to figure out how to make ship work, hell the most any of us got to training in unreal for the whole project was about 2 weeks. I know to people outside the industry surfacing and lighting may not sound important but they are the subtle things that make something go from looking cheap and bad to looking good in CG.
"In summary the production was a complete cluster fuck with a CEO making all the decisions, refusing to listen to anybody just making his pet fantasy project about his self inserted son, but hey he got what he wanted, he can now say reboot the guardian code is the first ever show to be made with the unreal engine and rendered in 4k plus there is some VR stuff. Watch anytime he talks about the show he'll hit on those points, hell those are the points we've been told to hit on in the handout they gave us about how we're supposed to talk about the show in public.I'm very sorry about the product we put out there, I can't imagine how hard it is for long time fans of ReBoot to look at this abomination, if you're holding out any hope for this show don't, not only did the spit on the grave of ReBoot they did it in a badly written, badly acted show. If you're wondering if they tried to do anything to placate you guys, that'd be episode 10, they have all the old main characters in that episode but only that episode and it's just as badly written and acted as they other episodes. Do not watch this show, do not support this show or if you feel the need to satisfy your curiosity about it wait at least a month after release, netflix tends to make a decision on renewing for more seasons based on the numbers after about 2-4 weeks so the last thing this show needs is to do well out of morbid curiosity during those weeks and get another season."
Brandon Robertson I guess we'll know if it's real when episode 10 comes out.
Like they say on a favorite show of mine: "Wooo, bitch! The shade of it all." I am somehow relieved to read this as at least the creators were held hostage too, but damn... I could cry. I know my friend will when I link him to this video.
I saw a video review of it. Apparently to them, "Homage" means calling the longtime fans "fat neckbeard losers"...
aptspire I know I was soo pissed when I saw that and the thing that hurts the most is the guy the actor that’s played the obsessed nerd is an old reboot writer he’s basically mocking the oh fans for waiting for a cliffhanger it was such a slap in the face
sdmblack1 it already came out and I’ve already seen it, the 4chan user was110 right
Wow, way to make me care for something I have no idea about then immediately hate what has happened to it.
Lmfao I feel the same
Agreed, I was initally going to poke fun at Woolie, but now all I feel is betrayal and loss for something I've never even cared for.
Thanks for making me care Wools
Yeah, you pretty much explained the feeling I have about this... I came expecting funny, but now I'm sad...
And once again, someone else has said what I was trying to say but I couldn't think of the right way to say it.
You can watch it for free on the Shout Factory TV app. I hope some of you try it and enjoy it
THE VIDEO WOOLIE WAS PUT ON THIS EARTH TO MAKE
His lifelong dream was to join Mainframe Studios
but now
His life's mission is to destroy them
Mainframe Studios died a long time ago. The corpse shuffles on, but the spirit is gone. The soulless entity that remains is known only as Rainmaker.

Woolie's format: Fan. His function: to bury and mourn.
I have my issues with Samurai Jack season 5, but my god, seeing what was done to ReBoot makes me immeasurably grateful that Jack got a proper continuation and finale instead of getting rebooted. Aside from maybe Teen Titans and the Powerpuff Girls, none of my favorite childhood shows received this level of cynical, soulless ravaging. My sympathies to all ReBoot fans denied justice, I may have never watched the show, but no media property deserves this treatment.
@ Season 5 was good but it couldn't really maintain it's tone of the first few episodes, plus the final episode felt rushed.
As an aside, I had learned in another video that The Guardian Card is more of a remake of Micheal Hefferons other show, MPForce.
@ Pacing, the rushed climax and escalation of Jack and Ashi's relationship, my biggest problem with season 5 is not enough time was given to do everything they tried to do. It needed more breathing room, the seasons for the original were 13 episodes each, those extra three alone could have been put to very good use. All in all I don't hate season 5, there's a lot to like about it, and more than anything I'm happy my favorite show of all time got a proper conclusion done by most of the original team.
@ the ending felt suprinsgly rushed.
@ Gendy needed more than 10 episodes. That's all there is to it. Jack and Ashi relationship needed more time and Jack's final battle with Aku did as well.
Im one of those reboot fans who heard of the reboot of reboot checked out reviews and was glad i didnt bother watching it even for cameos. Ill stick with downloading classic series and trying to find all the episodes before ill waste time on the mass amounts of good and bad crap flooding media these days
During my 3D animation classes, I lost my shit when we learned about different types of shaders and pulled out a model of Phong and informed us that this was called phong shading.
Reboot named a character after the type of shading they used on him and to this day that makes me feel awesome!
Ray tracer is also named after Ray tracing if you didn't catch that.
@iaagp you aren't, they modeled him like that because the name sounds asian.
WE IN THERE BOYS
Edit: I don't want to be in here anymore.
Hey, it was rough. But we at least got the link to the old series. I'd completely forgotten the countdown to nothing incident.
Woolie doesn't want to be in there anyway... But hes trapped like in the mafia
go watch the old series, go get the dvd collection, the art book from the original series... we've all waited over 12 years for something that's awful...we can pretend it doesn't exist and enjoy the old stuff which is highly better quality than the new stuff.
we should make a word for having much to talk about in regards to something you don't want to talk about. Maybe a reboot reference.
Man, fuck being in there, for reals.
"A pale uncaring sun sets on a young bird that hit the sidewalk before it learned to fly.
A dog, cries voicelessly for reasons it doesn't fully understand, when brought to its owner's grave.
A middle aged woman looks out of an office window and realizes that her children have not spoken to her in years; because she's become exactly like her mother.
An old man with hours left to live, feels deep fear; as he realizes that he's forgotten the name of his deceased wife.
The door shuts, devouring the last bit of light in the room. As the newborn in cradle spends its first night alone and comes to understand; that profound loneliness is the way of things.
"

Woolie is a fucking poet.
You know what in the end, I feel like I kinda get where woolie learned all this stuff now.. Good Night Woolie Good Night

I like it. Now that it’s out here it’s not rattling around in his head.
New copypasta spotted.
You gotta use those sick 3D Studio MAX skills to make your own ReBoot series, Woolie!
2Snacks Shame the property can't be owned by someone who gives a damn. (PS love your animations. Too bad Woolie's crushed childhood probably wouldn't work as "Two Best Sisters" material)
id watch it i miss me and my brother grew up on this show we both like and dislike different things now but one thing we can agree on is that reboot is so good (not gc) That show sucks ass
@PainCausingSamurai Well you can, just can't use any of the trademarks.
That would be fun to remake. I have some 3DS Max skills.
PainCausingSamurai
It would only work if Woolie was Luna. Then it would make for a fun new reason why Luna became NMM.
Though since Woolie is Chrysalis posing as Cadence, I don't think you can Nightmare-ify a remorseless creature born from the Woolie hole.
Visually or conceptually.
Maybe just a short of Chrysalis tearfully sucking the love out of a box of puppies one at a time, similar to how Rarity tearfully eats entire tubs of ice cream when she's depressed?
I don't know. 2Snacks has better ideas than I do.
God the Scream that Dot lets out after she thinks Enzo died is so heart breaking which shows the talent of the writers and the voice actor, every time i feel her pain
I still get chills when they're all sitting the command center and hear the computer's announcement. That pregnant, uncomfortable silence after the user is declared the winner. You can actually _feel_ the weight of that scene before Dot screams. ReBoot was so different to action/adventure cartoons. It wasn't afraid to let heroes fall like Enzo and Bob did. But it didn't kill them; ReBoot showed them perservering and coming back stronger.
@@dsouth7754 damn I had to watch it again and damn that hurts.
The cinematography of the show is why the graphical fidelity ends up being a non-issue after a while.
The shots and framing, even in early episodes, regularly beat *primetime dramas*. Considering that a talented comic artist (and that's actually important) oversaw the art direction, that's not too much of a surprise.
That they made it live action at all missed the point of why people bitched hard about graphical fidelity. It was supposed to be a Pixar cartoon. Canada's attempt at Toy Story for the masses.
I'm sorry Woolie. ReBoot never deserved this.
I think that's one of the reasons the series has held up for 30 years, despite it's visuals now looking primitive - the blocking, framing, etc mimicked that of live-action dramas, lending to a sense of realism. The biggest flaw in modern movie CG is that they tend to get a bit overzealous with unrestricted camera movement; if the viewer is to believe the shot is _real,_ then it must be blocked/framed/shot as if it *_were real._* Having a virtual camera perform physics-defying aerobatics & acrobatics may look cool, but it doesn't look REAL, and at the end of the day, that's what the FX shot has to do - convince you the spaceship is as real as the flesh & blood actor.
God damnit Woolie now I have to rewatch Reboot and consequently be more upset that *REDACTED* exists!
+LittleVMills
I second that sentiment... I now want to rematch Reboot and then wince at the fact that its sorry excuse for a follow up exist...
LittleVMills Sup, Little V!
I watched the new one...it was awful and just made me want to rewatch the original to stop the pain.

So...Reboot is esentially the Half-Life of cartoons (complete with awful "Hunt Down the Freeman"-style unofficial sequel years after an unsatisfying ending)?
I'd say it's more like the Duke Nukem. Same ridiculously long waiting period, and we still got a travesty of a new installment from a project head that has no idea what they're doing.
I thought the cliff hanger to Half Life 2 was really good...
@@Thalanox Not to mention the basic structure of the project has more in common with decades-later contemporaries than the original source material. Reboot with Code Lyoko, Duke's classic gunsaplenty inventory with 2 guns/health regen.

Man, I remember being so enamored with Daemon as a villain when I was a kid. All the villains in ReBoot were good, but they were good in practiced ways. Megabyte was a scheming Bond villain with bumbling minions, Hex was an unpredictable lunatic as likely to hinder as she was to help (out of lust for Bob), but Daemon?
Daemon completely blew my little child mind. The concept of a villain being affable, friendly, and genuinely curious why the heroes are fighting them, while simultaneously pursuing a course of action that would kill everyone and herself was something I had never seen. Daemon isn't a villain by choice, she's a villain simply by existing. Her corruptive nature isn't just an instinct to her, it's the core of her very being, the foundation of her entire personality, and Mainframe's writing and Colombe Demers's delivery of the character nails that shit in a way I haven't seen since. Her existence isn't even tragic, in a way so many "Anti-villains" are, because you know she feels no remorse for her actions.
I'm of a mind with Woolie, on this once. The new series can die in a dumpster fire, it can be as worthless and forgettable as it wants. It can shit all over my memories, but it will never take them away.
Same! I ADORED Daemon when I watched it as a kid! I loved her despite her being really the big bad of the later series, glad I'm not the only one! :D
Jacob Marion me too lol
The one scene of Daemon's that I think is utterly representative of her character is when the *cough* rebooted Hexadecimal is getting reamed out by Daemon for "abandoning" her viral identity. Hex begs her, "forgive me!" Daemon simply replies, "No." And then blasts her.
Holy crap.
I come from the net, through systems, peoples and cities to this place; Mainframe.
My format; Guardian, to mend and defend. To defend my newfound friends, their hopes and dreams. To defend them from their enemies.
This show did not need an update. Maybe a graphic overhaul, and a genuine continuation. It didn't deserve what they did to it.
Be strong, fans of Reboot. Mend and defend.
My favorite part of this series is how the epic showdown at the end with Megabyte isn't with Bob but with Enzo.
Enzo is the character that grows the most throughout the series. And at the very end he's the one who fights Megabyte, and wins. It was such an epic moment in the series that stuck with me well into adulthood. Being able to see these characters change was the highlight of Reboot.
Jesus christ. This is like Gabe announcing Half Life: Battle Royale. It just ain't fucking tight man. I never even watched the show and you've got me heated.
Every time I hear that the devs of Unreal Tournament 4 were moved over to Fortnite, I want to reach for a gun to put in my mouth.
Why are you making me feel bad for wanting Valve to put their hand in the battle royale genre now that you bring up that idea?
Jay "p1ngas" Quilson Watch the original series. Join us. Then join us in horror as you bare a miniscule glimpse of the evisceration of the beloved series from TGC trailer.
Woolie this shit is art. I really enjoyed this and, chin up--it'll only get worse but at least your imagination of what a new good reboot of ReBoot would be is better than anything anyone could ever make. And no-one can ever take that away from you. So be happy;)
By the way I'm totally kidding, you're definitely my role-model
As you know, Reboot concluded in 2001 and remains a nostalgic touchstone for mid-late nineties early CGI jank. Never once was it attempted to be rebooted, and is well known for being a cult classic to this day. There was no 2018 -in-name only reboot. There is no war in Ba-Sing-Se.
There are people who were born on the day reboot ended who are now prepping for their high school finals today. God I'm old
Let's not forget, after Megabyte's "Hunt" speech, his voice actor Tony Jay died, if I remember right from a heart attack.
Wow he made a great villain.
He was such a great villain because he always remained threatening. He never lost his teeth.
He passed away in 2006 from a lung tumor surgery. He also voiced Frollo in Hunchback of Notre Dame, and he did MANY narration roles, including game series like Fallout and Warcraft..
Captain Capacitor's voice actor, Long John Baldry, passed away in 2005. He was a famous blues singer and a good friend of Elton John, and he also voiced Robotnik in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
@@Boredman567 I thought the voice of Robotnik was Jim cummings?
@@Klonoahedgehog Jim Cummings voiced him in the SatAM cartoon, while Baldry voiced him in AoStH.
He also voiced The Elder God in The Legacy of Kain series. Both it and Reboot end on an unresolved cliffhanger setting up a confrontation with his character sadly.
Love the vid, Woolie! You know it's bad when the intro to "Woolie VS ReBoot" looks and feels more like ReBoot than TGC ever does (and that's including their pitiful attempt to connect it with the tenth episode "Mainframe Mayhem"...I mean Rainmaker couldn't even get the game cube color right...so yeah).
For those who never watched the show before, give it a chance. Early 90's animation may be off-putting to some, but there's a solid story behind it. Even the first two seasons are fun because the creators never considered their audience to be "stupid children". As Woolie mentions, Season 3 gets a major upgrade and the story does take a mature turn and is broken up into four arcs over 16 episodes.
There IS a reason why the trailer for "ReBoot: The Guardian Code" has 1.1K likes to 14K dislikes.
Seriously, the Guardians code is outright Blasphemy.
The most punished Woolie that has ever been punished.
Chase Wilson "Poisoned" even
And this is after his playthrough of the reboot PS1 game, haha
It's the Super Eyepatch Woolie video I've been waiting for!
Edit: Thanks for the link to the full series, my dood!
If you're watching the series, I should warn you that the first two seasons are very kid-orientated. As Woolie said in his video, it is near the end of the 2nd season that shit starts getting slowly real and matures with its audience. Main character gets defeated and is gone for a long while, young sidekick eventually gets his shit pushed in too but grows up to a total badass and begins his search for the original main character.
The peak of the entire series, for me, is when they finally get back home after being gone for years. It's both a magical moment... and depressing.
I appreciate the heads up, but like Woolie I also grew up watching Reboot lol. It's been at least 15 years since I last saw it and I'm definitely long overdue for a revisit.
Ah, I had the impression you hadn't watched the series before. Did you ever read the "ambiguously canon" comic sequel?
"If there's a word for this, help me out, I have no idea what it is."
It's a netorare.
Well, you have my utmost sympathies: you've officially overtaken Higlander as the fanbase that got screwed the hardest.

my god what have they done. As a Canadian child of the nineties and a fan of ReBoot, I had all but lost the thread on the countless attempts to restart the series, and I should be thankful for that self-inflicted ignorance. I feel your pain as my own.
Yo Woolie, you're a stellar writer. I enjoyed the way that this whole video was structured, and your script is super solid! Keep up the good work, mean!
He really is, man.
Thank you.
As British kids who watched and adored ReBoot my brother and I had to wait 10 years for answers after CITV cancelled the show after "The Episode With No Name". For us Matrix and AndrAIa were searching for Bob for a full decade until we could get hold of/afford some bootleg DVDs* and a region-less player. No other TV show has held a place in my heart for as long as ReBoot has. I refuse to watch any re-make because there simply doesn't need to be one. The animation may look dated by today's standards but the story-lines, the characters and the heart & soul of the original show can never be outdone.
I might go and have a little cry now...
(*this was before the official DVDs were released, which we now have. I don't support bootlegging but it was our only option at the time)
Yeah it took about 5 years before I got hold of the rest of season 3 and season 4... although I had friends who had downloaded it via p2p sites back then. So got to finally find out what happened way before the dvd releases came out. Still was frustrating at the final cliffhanger.
Nah mate, when a show is dangled in front of you, but then isn't properly released for you to officially pay to watch it, you have every right to "illegally" watch it. If they didn't want it watched, if they couldn't be bothered to distribute it to a paying audience, they shouldn't have made it and used the medium of TV to shove on you in the first place \_(ツ)_/
Good on you for upgrading to the official release though. I'm still waiting on a region 2 DVD version of Daria that goes past the first season.

Code Lyoko Evolution was so cancerous that not only did it completely ruin its own original series in every possible conceivable way but now its infecting other franchises that are similar to it.
Matrix Goku why am I just hearing about this now?
It bombed pretty badly and wasn't even dubbed. I think CL Evolution was a symptom of a greater problem throughout media, of retreading old shows to new audiences that were never gonna be interested anyway.
"self destruct initiated."
To think there was such a tragic fate in store for what I remember as "that show what was on before Sailor Moon where I never knew what was going on because I was five"... to be turned into what appears to be, just from that trailer footage, Power Rangers meets Code Lyoko... Nothing deserves that.
I wonder if the game cubes in Reboot partially influenced Nintendo to make the GameCube's flagship color purple?
The Game Cube is based off of the GameCube
ReBoot aired in the early 90s and the GameCube released in 2001.
As a Canadian in my 30's this makes me pissed. Great video though!

I turned 18 in 2001 so I was slightly older than you. That said, I hardcore ate up the series. I was on the mailing list and got the DVD s. When all the things started coming out in the 2013-2014 series, I was no longer excited. Then the guardian code came. Bluh. I loved that series back in the day, I just won't acknowledge the new thing with a similar name.
I now finally understand why you've always sounded so defeated whenever talking about this show on the podcast or sbfp channel......I don't think the original show ever aired in my country. I hear the Code Lyoko sequel show was just as bad as the Reboot Reboot which is funny cause the premises are literally the same.
thanks to your video you made me remember what the "weird CG show i used to watch as a kid at 6 am before going to school" was called. the name was lost in time for me and this made me remember how much i loved this show, its really sad to see where it has gone, i watched the first episode of the netflix series and it just made me really sad.
Those closing remarks really hit home xoxxo rip ReBoot. May you know rest, and be remembered as you where and not what you have become.
Proving himself to be not a coward and facing his inner demons.
ReBoot reboot, free for only ninety nine, ninety nine, ninety niiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnneeeee!
Dark Mountain Productions this guy gets it!!!
it's absolutely nothing
GOD DAMMIT MIKE YOU CAUSED IT ALL
This was super interesting to watch because even though I never watched reboot, I think everyone has had that kind of show from their childhood.
ThonroTheUA-camr It use to be Samurai Jack for me, but that show got the proper send-off it deserved.
When your "Why I like the thing" unfortunately also doubles as "Wut Happen"
I'll be honest, like actually honest Wollie. I'm 32 my dad showed me "The Prisoner" after I asked about a vhs set that I wasn't aloud to touch... this was when I was eleven. that Prisoner ref was for me... a shocking amount of shows had them... I guess the show really effected people. that said this comment is more for the algorithm than you since you likely have better things to do than look at comments on three year old videos.
That fact it isn't being released in Canada is baffling. It makes my heart hurt.
honestly it's probably for the best, since Reboot; The Gaurdian Code is bland and missing what made the original special.
It is just not on Netflix, it’s being aired as a regular tv show on their network in Canada and after the run will likely be uploaded on whatever web hosting the producers have sole claim to.
Man, as dated as ReBoot may look, it was still amazing. It had amazing continuity, crazy plot changes, new characters written in that were actually awesome, some of the best parodies ever (remember the X-files episode that had the ACTUAL CAST as voices?!), and a cool, epic sounddtrack. It was just FUN and didn't need any bullshit about "you're a kid and YOU CAN BE IN THE COMPUTER TOO JUST LIKE BOB AND ENZO

He's not kidding, folks. At the height of X-Files popularity, David and Gillian literally voiced Mulder and Scully stand-ins for one episode. THAT was the power of this show.
O O O F
Man i love reeboot. Premium toonami right here. The reboot brought me to raging tears. One of my favorite childhood shows. I rven had the psone game
I rented the PS1 game from blockbuster because we couldn't afford to buy it! :D Ahhh the 90's
never watched this but BEAST WARS IS THE SHIT
I'll fight anyone on a Burger King parking lot that says it's bad for its visuals
Fun fact: I'm younger than Lima Bean, my dad got the show for me when I was a kid
Season 3’s graphics are still absolutely amazig and stunning to me!! And the action is better than most Hollywood movies!
Woolie and I were born the same year and had similar experiences with ReBoot. This is so fcking devastating...
ReBoot mattered to me in a way that cannot be described, but still can be felt whenever I see Bob use Glitch, Dot being brilliant, watch Enzo grow up into a fully sound character, how terrifying Megabyte could be on all levels, the innovation, the artistic genius, the gripping/entertaining/memorable stories that got hella better AFTER cancellation.
I made me realize my wants in life and my sexuality, and IT FCKING GREW UP WITH ME. It cared about my intelligence and keeping me invested and inspired. You want that kind of thing brought back for future generations to also experience instead of whatever the hell they have now...
I'm legit crying... I would not be surprise or care as much if the brilliance of this life-changing series didn't hold up when I rewatch it now.
Whatever they have now isn't bad. Much of it is GREAT. But Reboot is a classic, and the Reboot they have now is... Ugh....
Your sexuality huh? Would it be by any chance that episode with Dot wearing that tight, short black dress based on Morticia Adams? Cause OOF, that awakened something in me as a little child....
+Seasoning the Obese Hopefully the viral Hexadecimal and not the Sprite Hexadecimal. She looked... weird when she wasn't a virus.
Damn dude, i dont belive iv ever seen a person be so legitimately devastated!
I feel you though i grew up with reboot too, we are all feeling the pain brother.
Aw yeah! 1990s nostalgia, when CG was so novel.
I remember where I was the day the user won;
I watched that episode in my dorm room.
@14:40 magic school bus turning into dune. Lmao, ty that alone made watching this video worth it. 😂😂😂
It's not Reboot without Dot Matrix.
This is one of the most depressing things I have ever watched on youtube. The people making the new Reboot show should honestly be ashamed of themselves. We HAVE to get this to trending somehow
I've been a ReBoot fan since the late '90s. I saw all this happen in real time, I was an active participant in the Zeros2Heroes revival, and I had a front row seat when that imploded. I have a ReBoot fan site (Slack & Hash's Domain) and I have not even bothered to update it with news about the new series because it ain't ReBoot.
Thank you for making this video, man. This explains very well just why oldschool fans like me are so shocked and saddened by what Rainframe has done. "The Guardian Code" makes me feel like feel like Bob did when, in Season 3, they finally made their way from the Web back to Mainframe...only to find that their beloved city had been all but destroyed by Megabyte's dictatorial mismanagement.
They ruined VeggieTales and ReBoot, so I wonder whats next?
I use to have a megabyte toy. but this kid in my class stole it from me. i told my teacher but she didn't believe because she said it was a "boy" toy. I was a heartbroken 10 year old
It's about time, thank you Woolie.
Bob was a reference to Blackadder? I always thought it was a reference to Microsoft Bob .... AHH, THE MEMORIES, THEY BURN!!!!! DX
Tzisorey Tigerwuf I also assumed it was a reference to Microsoft Bob
Same man still remember the moment I realized Enzo actually stood for something. Also the fact I used to own a Dot Matrix. Show was a really clever/dark show, and the fact was Reboot/Beasties (beast Wars) back to back was an amazing time.
kevin parker I always thought of my original Game Boy and how at the top of the screen it says "Dot Matrix with Stereo Sound"
I completely forgot about that lol man that takes me back. Screen cover coming off due to crappy glue ah good times
And phong shading - though I only learned about that after, when I started doing 3D rendering.
What happun to the naruto LP?
Dattebayo!!
Before 1995: ABC was owned by Capital Cities Broadcasting.
After 1995: ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Company.
This actually makes me kinda mad. I could've seen potential in updating a series like this. BUT WHY DOES EVERY SINGLE FUCKING REBOOT OF AN OLD POPULAR FRANCHISE NEED TO BE A SERIOUS EDGY CW DRAMA ABOUT KIDS IN HIGH SCHOOL, OR A DUMBED DOWN VERSION MEANT FOR LITTLE KIDS ON CARTOON NETWORK?! OH NO, DON'T TRY TO MAKE SOMETHING TOO DIFFERENT. YOU MIGHT STICK OUT, AND PEOPLE MIGHT DRAW ATTENTION TO IT!
These wounds they will not heal
The Code Lyoko and Reboot reboots are the same shows. But both original fanbases want nothing to do with them.
Great vid Woolie, I remember watching Reboot on GMTV (ITV in the UK), we did not get to see much of season 3 though :( I also remember Beast Wars doing the same thing. Optimus Primal & Megatron joined forces to take out the Vok and Megatron betrays Optimus at the last moment and that was also a season finale as well.
Best comment on the vid hands down
You didn't get to see Beast Wars season 2 or 3? Damn that's rough!
Beast Wars season 2 i saw when Tigertron and Airrazor get taken by the Vok that was the last episode i saw as a kid then they did repeats
but i was referring to Reboot :(
Bruh
I loved all the pop culture references. During its run on Toonami, these two girls in my class made fun of me for watching this show because it wasn’t Japanese. They loved Sailor Moon. So I found it hilarious in that one episode Sailor Moon makes a cameo and gets squashed 😅. But now...I love SM and get sad during that scene :(
This is brutal, but I'm so goddamn glad other people remember the original ReBoot. That shit was amazing. WE HAVE SEEN THE TRUEST FORM, AND WE KNOW THESE LIES TO BE LIES.
ABC ON Saturday morning was the best yo
Taulib 215 North philly
YTV back in the day was were it was at. They ran reruns all the way up til the closing of the Bionix (anime/adult cartoon) block. Times were good back in those days.
Yeah, up until Disney bought ABC and ordered them to cancel Sonic SatAM and Reboot. Well, the latter actually continued in Canada without skipping a beat, until the show was picked up by Cartoon Network and aired on Toonami years later.
