Darrell is just crazy cool. I love how he says "no no, do 4 - just trust me". YEAH I'm gonna trust you Darrell!
Haha yes, indeed
By far one of best recorded drums
I’ve heard! Amazing player too! Hard to hear the click since the drummer is so locked in!
Uh, Darrell is such a fu***ng genius. I love the way he just goes on...
Haha he is! Wonderful talent
Yessss. Big ups to Darrell, Warren, Eric and everyone involved. Was such a dream for us!
Thanks ever so much for doing this! You Rock!!!
@@Producelikeapro thanks Warren you the man!
@@TalkTimeMusic you guys Rock! Great band!! The songs came out amazingly
This band sounds like a cross of Wilco and Minus the Bear. Love the sounds!
Yes! Fantastic band!!
These are always fascinating, watching a master of his craft at work.
Thanks ever so much
Really love Darrell’s courses on Pro Mix Academy and his videos on PureMix. Really super pro sound engineer and there is so much to learn from him. It’s super great you made a new course with Darrell! 😀👍🔥🔥🔥
Darrell Rocks!!
I really love the way he has mounted a mono mic, I can hear it in the mix it brings up the Snr & Kick. Am so grateful 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Yes! Fantastic
Flipping the one string ping. Brilliant!
Haha yes! Indeed
This course looks amazing - all the steps, details, decisions, group process - from start to finish
Thanks Russell! Yes, it’s one of the best out there! Darrell goes into great depth!
The second song (vocal reverb mixing) is amazing.

Errrrrriiiiiiccccck Rules!!
Nice job on the preview. It lets us see what the content is really like. Darrell is great for instruction, too! Thanks.
So excited to watch this. It was amazing being part of this live. Glad it was all captured for everyone to see. Darrell is the man.
Thanks ever so much Aaron! Yes, Darrell did an amazing job!!
Another awesome, informative video. I feel so inadequate in my own skills after watching masters like Darrell, yet filled with the desire and passion to get better.
Thanks ever so much! Yes, Darrell rules!!
Well that was fun to watch. Darrell's a true pro and super cool too boot. Digging that tune as well.
Thanks ever so much Billy!!

Wow!! A million thanks. May you live long Sir. This is so wonderful, I have learnt new things. I have come realize that we’re all unique in the way we do things. Amazing..
Thanks ever so much!
And E-Rock has really upped his on-camera game!
eRock on camera! Yes!!
Nice use of the Trim plugin, I’ve never seen that plug used in this way and I’m stealing it.
Wow, great reverb tip! Thanks
This is great. Like a lot of Darrel's approach and professional ear plus he works quick, not wasting any precious studio time. Someone defo my band could work with and get great results!! Cool! 👍👍
Best video yet
Thanks ever so much Kody!
RANDY STAUB - I will repeat myself to death. One of the most underrated engineers/mixing engineers in the world or maybe He just loves to stay away from the fame that He deserves!
I love His super heavy and beefy low end tone and those super wide guitars. He worked with Bob Rock with Metallica era from Black Album to S&M. He did a mix of "How You Remind Me" with Nickelback and also 3 Alice in chains records whey they've returned.
Yes, Randy mixed three songs on an Album I made years ago, Andy Wallace mixed the rest.
@@Producelikeapro What was that record?
@@gutekzpoligonu Yowsa! Years ago! It was a band I developed, got them signed and Garth made the album. They used my demos for a lot of the album so I needed up with an Engineering credit. Andy mixed most of the album. Here’s a link:- open.spotify.com/artist/25xjytYjVKPvHiDIgrFodf?si=qVUgExRPSZ2DWWWrzGjQdg
@@Producelikeapro Holly cow! Warren, You dip Your fingers into the grunge!
You can clearly hear which songs Randy did by more fat drums and less presence in the vocals. Andy Wallace loves clarity at a level of CLA so it's obvious. That is why I love Randy mixes for me, and He would be mine mixer of choice because I love His bottom end, still radio friendly sound, but He almost always, 99,9% leaves this alternative peace in His every mix.
As goes band: They sound like a Silverchair but as I looked, it was 2003-04 so it was on that "new grunge wave" but still I love that bands like that had a chance and I wish that nowdays it also would be a case.
Oh whell, I'm collecting the money to send Mr. Staub a EP to mix so we will see ; )
Darell is an absolute dude. Those reverse guitars were exactly what was needed.
Agreed! All of the songs on the EP came out amazingly!!
yeah, he made a moment, and created contrast, out of nothing much.
@@Tryggvasson yes, marvellous!
He's mixing the Glenn Johns method with the spaced pair method. Genius.
Whatever sounds the best!
He's not, actually. And it's Glyn Johns.
I love The Village!
Very Nice
Huge Congrats on getting 666K subs Warren! 😈🤘🔥🔥🔥 your channel is super amazing and one of the best and the most educational channels on YT! You deserve 666M subs ;)
You’re very kind Alexey! Thanks ever so much for your wonderful support

Omnichord spotted at 9:17!
Yes! Amazing
Joe Meek used predelay alot in the early 60s. Thats who i learned it from, though he called it a different name.
this is food. need more.
Thanks ever so much
From the pic I thought he was having a Martini!
Haha I’m not sure if Darrell is a martini kind of guy! Ha
this is a real masterclass. The first episode is more try and see what happens.
Thanks ever so much!
Great masterclass. Wondering if that guitar line they are overdubbing is a one mic track.. I use a bunch of mics on each guitar track so was wondering about that. Whether its bussed down to one or if he is just really only using one mic for the guitar.. Maybe the full video shows that..
That’s a good question! Let’s see if we can get Darrell to answer!
Excellent!! He use the trim plug for gain staging ?
Yes, anything that works!
He took a nightly band from a bar and turned them into Modest Mouse first tape album. He knows the equipment so well.
Any one knows what mic stand and clip they are using for the Coles?
Hey Warren, would this course be a part of the lifetime PLAP Academy Membership? Looks great!
PS: Would you do one of these with James Michael (Sixx:A.M. Meatloaf, Kelly Clarkson, Papa Roach) at Red Level Three Studio?!?!
Cheers, mate!
Brett
Lauten Audio FC-357 one of my absolute favorite mics. I F-N hate having only one basket/spider mount. I need the small mount, and I can't find anything that links up with the threads. I've looked.
Thanks ever so much for sharing. Did you ask Lauten?
@@Producelikeapro I have. With the Lauten Clarion FC-357 and FC-387 they don't want to make the hard mount. The FC-357 FET mic and the Lauten Atlantis FC-387, another FET mic, have capsules that are susceptible to coming loose with frequent & constant vibrations. It's a fraction of a fraction of a screwdriver turn between loosened and completely tightened. The spider mounts prevent this from happening. I still don't care. I can tighten the damn thing myself. (I have tightened it myself, but don't tell my warranty people.) I'm on a mission to have the hard mount made for me. If it's good enough I'll send some your way to give to Thorpe.
@@legacyShredder1 thanks ever so much for sharing
"MORE TRIPPY MORE ON DRUGS THAN ALLMANS!!" LTIS myself.
Haha indeed

Does anyone happen to know what those neat little clip/mounts are on the ends of the stands on the base of the Coles?
I don’t! They were supplied by the studio
@@Producelikeapro No worries!!! Just throwing it out there incase anyone happens to know hah…They look pretty handy!
@@jamescassidy4045 aha! Indeed, someone might know
@@Producelikeapro Thanks. I found it pretty easily. I guess I should have just searched, but sometimes it’s funner to ask hah. It’s the 4038SA😎

Eric , want a brilliant podcast
Eric Rocks!!
Hey, produce like a pro!! could you help me Please!! I’m self taught producer & mix engineer. My setup is a lynx aurora n, 1176 bluey, la2a & Rupert neve portico preamp for tracking & for da/ad conversion. I create great mixes for my clients; I also master the their projects in the box. I’m familiar with mixing & compression. Majority of times I’m mixing hip hop, r&b, & rap music. I want to incorporate a analog compressor for mastering but not sure which to go with: multiband, singleband compressor or tube compressor for color. Could you help me? which would best fit for me versatility. Thanks so much
Wow! So many choices! Most people would say go with an SSL style hardware compressor, there’s lots to choose from, SSL’s own compressor, Tegeler Crème and Wes Audio Mimas are all fantastic compressors!
Coolest
Yes!! Darrell Rocks!
@@Producelikeapro Yes Sr
@@obedanturi9820 thanks ever so much

Thanks Audrey
@@Producelikeapro I don't know where my brain went. I meant to write something more there. I'm in the non-24 kind of perpetual jet lag mode. I do enjoy Thorp working things though❣️ Thanks y'all❣️
@@splashesin8 thanks ever so much for the wonderful comment
Great name Thorp...haha
Haha indeed
Lead singer needs some tune for sure.

Yes! Dazzle!
WHat about the sound spill? they are not isolated
Amps are isolated, the musicians are in the same room, but the amps are isolated and baffled off, spill is minimal if at all
"controlled spill" is wonderfull. Dont be affraid of it. Use it. 🙏♥️🎶
@@Producelikeapro Right. Thank you for the explanation ;)
@@retepretep3014 absolutely!
@@gibson2623 you're very welcome!
Darrel has 9 Grammy awards right?
Yes, I believe so!
As a general rule of thumb, he gets a new one every year. Quick maths: 3 years ago he had 7, so now he has 10 :D

He has 10 now 😍
@@millermusicnsound very nice!

Thanks Audrey!
the petty comment about the 47 made me laugh so hard cuz it's probably true hahaha
I don’t remember it! What did he say?
@@Producelikeapro he said he wanted to use a 47 but "it's being used by another session that isn't as good as ours" haha
@@blashuvec haha great comment! Hilarious!
Fun to see how he does a session, but he does seem like he would be hard to work for or with.
CLICK ? oh yes
666K subscribers you devil you
Haha indeed!
all those people standing around and watching him work would make me nervous. Makes me a little nervous watching it. lol
he uses pre processed tracks I dont think they are not dry raw tracks.
Not sure what you mean? The whole recording was done from scratch, so if he applied any compression while recording it would be on ten tracks, and of course any uncompressed tracks are uncompressed. It’s a complete starry to finish recording and mixing course.
I've just noticed that your subscribers count is 666k. Does it warrant for something special, evil sounding stuff ? ;)
Haha interesting! Maybe? Haha
First reverse Guitar would have been enough. The lower octave was too distracting for my liking. The rest of the video was fabulous.
use the backwards plug and you're an instant "genius"
Just to say the P in excepts is silent. As in bathwater.
I’m sure you’re try to be funny or maybe, more likely you’re commenting on the wrong video! Haha Especially as the P in except is definitely heard haha
I hate when video sync is so far off. Makes this unwatchable.
I’ve watched it a couple of times back and don’t see any sync issues.
