Some people have a lot more $ and access to rare spirits but yes, that is still crazy to me too
10 years ago Yamazaki 12 was $45 and I could get Hibiki 12 for $33. these whiskies don't warrant anything near a $100 a bottle compared to what a $100 will get you out of Scotland. I don't get it what people now think they are drinking. They are buying mystique and not what is in the bottle. Laughable !!!
Perfect summary. Japanese whisky is good, but incredibly expensive due to rarity not quality. Many Bourbons are in the same situation right now.
