Yamazaki 12 is now going for AUD 380 here. Had it when it was less than 100. Like the saying goes, “ A fool and his money....”. Thanks, Tan, great review as always

I'm in Japan now for work I come home next week, couldn't find the 12 anywhere and so I bought the what I assume is the Distillers Reserve because the bottle looks the same but the writing on the bottom is in Japanese so I'm not sure. Paid around 90 dollars for it when I converted from Yen

Great comparison! From my research 2 years I found out that the 12 is aged in 3 different casks ex-bourbon, mizunara just as you thought and also ex-oloroso sherry. Thanks for that suggestion I think the JW Gold/18 is pretty good too. Cheers!

yeah i think yamas are a bit over priced when it comes to their age vs quality vs flavour
but certainly different to scotch but i find it lacking in finish and heaviness, depth
JW gold as value goes, is pretty good, i mean duty free specials you can get htem for 40 bux per litre at time shaha Nothing is that good for that cheap, but
I rather drink less and drink better i guess.
I mean, i guess trying to be healthier? haha

Yes, they absolutely don't live up to the hype. Nikka has one decent, affordable bottle--Nikka from the Barrel, which is the only NAS that I would say worth the price. Nikka's 10 yo Yoichi is far superior in my opinion to Yamazaki 12, but, sadly, it is unavailable at retail prices. If you visit Sapporo, Hokkaido, a trip to the Yoichi distillery is a must as, at the bar, you can get the 10yo Yoichi and its outstanding cask strength version. A visit to Osaka or Kyoto puts you close to the Yamazaki Distillery and they have a great selection at the bar (nothing worthwhile at the gift center though). For less than $20 you can taste a set of Hibiki 21, Yamazaki 18, and Hakushu 18, all are far more interesting than their NAS or 12yo versions. For me, Yamazaki 18 does live up to the hype, but the price is absurd. Thanks for another well-considered review! I hope you can visit Japan and try out the good stuff!

Dude, how unprofessional for you compare Nikka f t b(which is blended whisky) to Yamazaki (single malt)

      @AlinJapan 2 роки тому

@@semen809 Actually, if you read carefully, I compare the Nikka 10 to the Yamazaki 12. The Yamazaki 12 is OK, but the Nikka 10 is brilliant.

Actually the distillers reserve have 8 to 20 years whiskey

    • @eatsmokedrink

yeah, that is what they say but I would hazard A guess that the older whisky in there would be the shite barrels they find, maybe even defective, rejected barrels for the usual age statements and super inferior stuff.
The two are just chalk and cheese really.
you get that but what sort of teaspooning is it?
but like i said in the video the glending is skillful but the finish is lacking, the nose is great and front palate but the finish is bust.
That is like Johnnie walker blue label saying 'it contains whisky up to 40 years old and rare casks' lol but yeah, 40% abv and the nature of the bottling, boring.
(i have had blue labels higher abv editions that are excellent though but not the usual blue labels)

yeah, i havent tried new releases may differ but side by side you see the diff, if you just had it by itself i reckon it could be reasonably good too but side by side you notice the depth differences for sure.
Try it! if you can geta hold of it or in a bar, try the side by side i reckon it will shock you the difference

      @@germantarapow9112 dude! loved buenos aires.
Actually, I visited peru, chile and Argentina.
Chile was like a depressing place, peru was ok internet was so shit and frustrating for our work but argentina, even though at the time we were there the inflation was ridciulous, in one week! i experienced a 30% inflation holy shit, But man, you guys do beef well, Very different way to cooking it as we do, you know sear, high heat, medium rare.
there huge chunks of salt, slow dispersion of the salt into meat, lowish medium heat, longer cook, beautiful.
And Iguacu falls - HOLY BALLS OF THE SHIT BALLS
If not one of definitely THE MOST spectacular natural thing I have experienced in my life.
      wow
      loved it!
but I don't like your yerba mate..... nope, not for me haha but gave it a fair go i thought.
