    I wanted to post this here so hopefully you see it. We were talking in the comments section of your hd25 review about wether to get those or the v6s. I bought the v6s and love them even for casual listening. I like them better than my hd 598s in that regard actually. I’m a huge fan of your website and UA-cam channel my dude, thanks so much for the help. It’s great that you actually engage with the people that follow you and help them out. Keep up the great work! You provide a great service for beginners like me. Thank you so much!

      Wow man thanks so much! Didn't realize you received them that fast. It means a lot when people say these things because there are some really nasty people that come by here and attack me for whatever reason (Blame it on the nature of YT). It's the exception and not the rule thankfully. I do believe that's part of what sets me apart from other people and other sites. The fact that I respond to all comments on my blog as well as on here and through email. When I started out, I always got confused because I couldn't find anyone that would explain things in a way that made sense for the average person. So my goal for the site has always been to map out everything in an easy to read and understand way. Simplifying the process if you will. I'm still learning and working on things like now I'm working on some graphics that I think will help and something that I've always wanted to see in my research from others. I do understand that it's harder for people who have very large followings to get back to everyone, as there comes a point when you just can't keep up. My plan is to try and mitigate that and reverse that trend as this channel grows. Do you mind if I put your comment on my front page? Again, thank you much and do let me know if I can help out in any way moving forward! -Stu

    If you play it at 1.5 speed. It sounds normal.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +3

      If you put a comma after speed and use a lowercase i for it, your sentence is grammatically correct. ;) But yeah lol, I'm working on speed and editing future videos down to under 10 minutes, but thanks for pointing it out anyways.

      I'm not kidding though. Put it at 1.5 right now and listen to it. It actually makes it sound normal. I watched the whole video like that. You might think I'm be'n a prick but I'm completely serious. Talk fast and say everything you want to say, don't stop when you make a mistake, just re say it and then go back and edit out the junk.

      Here's an example. He goes on a 30 min rant talks quickly, records everything, says all the info he wants to get out there. Then he goes back, edits out the mistakes and pointless chatter. He fucks up over and over, stops and starts, but he edits it and makes it sound seamless. Delete my comment after reading this. I mean it's not really a big deal. I know what you're saying and I've already been working on it, so why keep reminding me to do what I'm already doing? This video is from when I first started uploading a few months ago. I already got some of the same advice from another guy and started making my videos less than 10 minutes. People will always complain regardless of what you do so it really doesn't matter anyways. Next it will be "You're going too fast, slow down." I'm not going to try and please everyone. I agreed that the videos were dragging a bit so I'm actively fixing that. Also, I'm not going to delete your comment. You have a right to your opinion. :) Here's an example of a newer video where I edit out all the junk: ua-cam.com/video/LhckJiXKkV8/v-deo.html

    Hey man, you make good videos. I get that it's hard, because I'm not always the most excited person either, but some tips would be to maybe try to capture a bit more energy. Cut out some of the parts that lack in energy. You don't have to be super happy, but just give it a little more umph. Maybe make it a little more to the point. I feel like there was probably 2-3 minutes of repeated points, or just time where you weren't talking. Anyway, thanks for the video. I'm subbed and hope to see more!

      Haha yeah, maybe smoke a joint before hand or something for this one. I realize it's super draggy and slow. This was one of my early videos and it's showing it's age although the info will always be relevant. Check out some of my newer stuff. I had gotten a similar comment to yours awhile back about keeping the videos under 10 minutes and I've taken heed to that moving forward by cutting out a lot of unnecessary junk. I've also tried to incorporate more of my personality into it. I think before I was trying to be too perfect, or too professional and serious. I think just loosening up a bit has helped a lot lately. Thanks for the comment and the kind words! Stay tuned for more. I've got an HD400S video coming soon, as well as a Status Audio CB 1. :)

      I mean, I prefer the V6's but used to have a pair of 7506 and loved them as well. IIRC, they were a bit brighter and a little more fatiguing, with more bass. Those are really the only differences but I have not heard a 7506 in awhile now. I do plan on getting another pair so I can officially compare them again, but really either is fine. I always recommend the V6 because I think it's a bit more resolving. Let me know what you decide!

    I actually did the cable mod on my personal pair of V6's. Basically it's the best pair of portable headphones you can buy for under $100. I had no idea how to solder and did a pretty bad job soldering the 3 signal wires to a female 3.5mm jack. But they work great. Sony should make a version with a removable cable, but they're too much invested in their other headphones to care, such a shame.

    • @HomeStudioBasics

      Hey man! I would agree. I think this and the 7506 are Sony's most important headphones, and I almost expect an upgrade, but they've never done it. I also think the padding needs an update as well. That faux leather really starts to flake after a year or two. Please send me a picture of your modded V6! Hey stu, nice review! I was wondering... I am not that much into this audiophile thing (yet) but looking for a daily driver in this price range that can also deal with some amateur video editing/sound mixing in the future. I was looking mainly into this and the 7506 versus the ath m50/40x. Do you reccon that for a more basic consumer like me the bulky, long and not detachable cable (mind that i have a pretty awful history with breaking any thing that has a 3.5mm jack) of the sony models should be a big drawback to use it as a daily driver, in the commute, and this sort of thing and or is it not that bad and I should get the sony one solely for the better sound, given that the price is very similar? btw, really liking your content, though a little more editing wouldnt hurt.. really waiting for more content !

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +2

      Hey Rafael! Thanks much for the kind words! What kind of editing would you like to see? Also, I would go with the V6 or 7506 for your purposes, with the V6 coming in first because it's bass isn't as elevated. The M40/50x are a bit too bass heavy to work if you're truly looking for a balanced sound. The 40x is more balanced than the 50x, but it's still a bass heavy type of headphone that does best primarily with bass heavier genres. People may battle me on that but it's the truth. Audio Technica tries to market those as reference headphones but they really aren't. You could get away with the 40x as a reference can but definitely not the 50x. Let me know what you think!

    • @rafaelsemer5829
      @rafaelsemer5829 6 років тому +1

      Home Studio Basics I think that I might have actually gone the other direction, and am now leaning towards buying one of the audio technica ones; the thing is, it virtually makes no diference, i've never even been close to owning a headphone that competes with those and anything I buy will probably amaze me - I'll not have the other ones to compare to anyway so as long as i'm satisfied with the headphone itself, the competition really doesnt matter - though i do fear that the sony ones might actually be a bit to flat for me, as someone that hasn't had a lot of experience with "balanced, neutral" cans. Sometimes i just dive way to deep in reviews... On the subject of your channel, i think that most of your videos could be a bit shorter, as 9-10 minutes as opposed to 13-14 by just edditing out mumbling in between sentences and repetition and pleeease put more music, the few times you tried it out it worked soo well and the music you used was really nice, can't remember the video(s) you did it, but it totally should be an integral part of your videos. Anyway, thank you for the attention and help, its rare to see the start of good channels and you seem to be really motivated to make it work. The best of luck for you!

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +1

      You bring up a great point in that it's not going to really matter what you go with in the beginning because since you're not used to good sound, anything that's considered "good" will sound amazing. For instance, the first time I tried the 7506 I was absolutely floored, to the point of wondering how could I have been missing out all this time? I also wouldn't worry about "too flat" for the V6 or 7506. You're definitely not going to get that impression at all. That said, the 40x is still a great headphone, but in my opinion it's a bit too bass heavy to really be optimal for mixing (for me). Still, it's got a fantastic sound and does extremely well with genres that dig down deep especially. There's nothing wrong with mixing with it I suppose, but if there's something better I'm always going to go with that instead. Think of it this way: If it's freezing cold out, and I have a choice between a winter coat and simply a windbreaker, I'm going with the thick coat every time. The windbreaker will help against some of the cold, but not all of it. Likewise, a headphone like the 40x will suffice, but it won't be as effective as a V6 or a 7506. I prefer the V6. Thanks also for your feedback. I agree, and moving forward will try to edit the videos down to around 10 minutes if possible. I appreciate your honesty! As for the songs, do you mean the intro beats that I make? Best regards, -Stu

    Thanks for the review. Do they do a better or similar job of blocking out noise than the 7506? I’m recording and monitoring sound like recording vocals into a mic.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  5 років тому +1

      Hey man no problem! I would say about the same. The build on both is pretty much identical with the same size, materials, ear cups, etc.. I used to own a pair of 7506's and the treble seemed to be a little peakier than the V6 that I now own, but I can't say for sure as I haven't heard one in awhile. I could be completely wrong but I used to mix on the 7506 daily and I remember having to take them off due to fatigue. The good news is that it took quite awhile for me to get to that point. I don't feel that same way of having the urge to take off the V6 but then again, I don't mix nearly as much as I used to when I was making beats all the time. Really the main takeaway is that you'll be happy with either so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    Thanks a lot for the reviews.. I also follow your blog.. I am so between in these v6 and Koss PRO4s as its also closed back and material seems better(aluminum) So can you give any clue about Koss in general and do you have a chance to compare those 2 models? (maybe you can also offer some other Koss models as they seem nice but cheaper) Thanks a lot

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +1

      Short answer: Go with the V6. Long answer: Haha the Koss Pro4A's? Those joints from the 70's? They are some of the most time tested and reliable headphones to ever come out. That said, so are the V6's. The newer model Koss is the 4AA I believe. What a tough predicament you've put me in. I actually used to use the Koss in middle school during the late 90's. To be honest, both models are now replicas of the originals. The newer V6's are made in China I believe, and the Pro4AA doesn't possess the same great build that the originals had. I haven't put on a pair of Koss headphones in quite awhile, but I'm sure they would sound and feel roughly the same. The V6's are the same way. They may not be as perfect as the originals, but they are still good. The Pro4AA's are also good, but they are heavy. You may opt for the V6 because of that if you have to do a lot of reference work. I would say the build is better on the PRO4AA, but the V6 is solid as well. It's just a lot lighter. Also, the 4AA terminates in a 1/4" jack, so depending on what you plan on plugging them into, you'll need a 3.5mm adapter. With the V6, they terminate in a 3.5mm jack and come with a 1/4" adapter. Comfort goes to the V6 as well. I remember the Koss' being pretty uncomfortable after a short period of time. Hope that helps!

      Hello again. Thank you so much for your fast and detailed reply, I appreciate. I understand and have red that the older models of 4AA were much more better than newer ones. But I have asked the D shaped PRO4S. You know its a new design and I saw good comments on some websites, thats why I wanted to ask. On the other hand, I wonder if Amazon is trustable to have a pair of original V6 or not? Thanks again for your reply in advance. Greetings..

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +1

      Short answer: Still the V6 :) Long answer: Oh, okay. You didn't specify which model in the original post. You just said Pro4. Anywho, the V6 is still the better buy. Despite the fact that it's now manufactured in China, sound is still good, build is still good, and comfort is still good. As far as the differences between the V6 and the Koss Pro4S? You're going to notice a sucked out mid-bass on the Pro4S, with a very good low bass similar to the V6. It doesn't make them sound bad, but the V6's by comparison are a lot more balanced, with a bit of added emphasis between 100-200 Hz, and a crisp treble response that rarely gets out of line. With the Pro4S, because of the darker, less bright treble, the mid-range has a tendency to stand out a little too much, causing vocals and instruments to become a little over emphasized and fatiguing. Comfort is a mixed bag, but you'll notice a tight clamping force at first on the Pro4S. The V6 is not perfect as far as that goes, but it's better. The Pro4S comes with a hard carrying case with zippered pouch/net for extra accessories, while the V6 only comes with a cheap flimsy faux leather drawstring bag. It gets the job done, barely. Lol. The Pro4S has a a removable cable while the V6 doesn't. Apart from those two minor wins for the Pro4S, the V6 still gets my vote. Hope that helps! Let me know what you decide and keep me posted. :)

    Hey Stu, great review! Quick question, I had a pair of MDR-7510's about 5 years ago and after about a year the sound stopped coming out of one side. I read in your comparison of the 7510s and the 7506s that this problem happened to other people with this same model. Is this problem also present in the MDR-V6 OR MDR-7506? If it's a problem that's just for the 7510's do you have any idea what might be the cause?That last question is mostly for my curiosity since I was 15 and really disappointed when the 7510s (a birthday present) stopped working lol. I'll probably be buying some V6s soon and this review is part of the reason why :D

    • @BluartStack
      @BluartStack 6 років тому +2

      Hey man! Thank you for the nice comment. I've personally never had issue with the sound ceasing to come out of one side, and I had owned the 7506's for a couple of years and put some heavy use on them. As for the V6, I haven't had it quite as long but I also haven't had a problem. The issue for either didn't really come up in my research, so I think you will be okay. :) With headphones in this price range, it's always a possibility, but a risk I'm willing to take. As for the reason, sometimes it's a loose connection that needs to be re-soldered. Hope that helps! Let me know what you decide and please keep me posted!

    Status Audio CB-1s might be an interesting comparison to do some day. I've seen them commonly compared against the V6's more popular little brother the 7506, as well as ATH-m40s and m50s, but I am most curious about their comparison to the V6.
    -Better stock pads than either the Sony or Audio Technica cans.
    -Detachable 3.5mm cable just like the m40x and m50x
    -Worse build quality than all of the other headphones it's compared to, on the flipside.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  6 років тому +3

      Yess.. The CB-1's have been on my radar for awhile now, and your comment might've just nudged me to purchase a pair. I've been meaning to get to them for some time, so I thank you for your insight! Just from the pictures I noticed that the pads seemed much better, like they're more of a protein leather vs. the horrible faux leather of the V6/7506. That's really my only gripe with those. The M40/50 pads are good at first as well, but they both tend to harden and crack over time, which is arguably worse since the edges become sharp and really hurt your ears. In fact, I ended up peeling every last piece of padding off of my M50 because I couldn't stand it anymore. Luckily the pads are replaceable though.

      Hey man! Kind of disagree don't really think it's brutal at all and the image is pretty darn good for a closed back. I think this graph is pretty accurate although I don't think the bass rolls off as much as it would indicate. www.innerfidelity.com/images/SonyMDRV6.pdf I will have to go back and listen again I don't use the V6 everyday but every time I put it on I just don't get a sense that the treble is that hot. The headphone never ceases to amaze me whenever I go back to them I don't know maybe it's the love affair I have with it :P but for under $100 it kicks the pants off of like everything and even rivals more expensive cans. Glad you're liking them though outside of those two things.

      @CKT1138 6 років тому +1

      @@HomeStudioBasics well it's a narrower soundstage than say, m40x's which I find somewhat wide for a closed back, so it's not that bad, just different from my usual semi open and fully open cans.
      Also, I don't know why but it just seems like hard cymbals and some sibilance just peaks louder than an explosion or something, it's not so bad when they're turned down low but i i turn them up to my usual listening volume (which isn't crazy loud), cymbals and siblant sounds become painfully loud as I've mentioned before... Hmm. Let me take another extended listen and get back with you. Could be MY ears lol. I do find Grado's pretty harsh though and they have similar peaks although around 2k they are known for peaking as well whereas the V6 does not. www.innerfidelity.com/images/GradoSR325e.pdf That's just ugly to me, lol. Also I don't get notified of follow up responses so you may try reaching out on my website or through email homestudiobasics.com/contact Also you mentioned sending me some demo units you can at that link and get in touch with me if you want. :)

    They may come back... back in 2014, Sony tried discontinuing it. Then they tried again 2016. Who knows, maybe it's just because of worldwide Pandemic, they decided to cut costs for now. I have a feeling they'll come back later.

      Thanks Markolav! Glad to have you on board. Stay tuned for some improvements to the videos in the future. :) My more recent ones are trimmed down in length, and I will be adding some different graphic elements to my future videos. Also let me know when you purchase the V6 and how you like them!

      I have a good news, i finally managed to find barely used V6 from ebay for a pretty reasonable price (50€ including shipping from US). Binding cycle is not over yet but it looks quite promising. Unless someone outbids me they are basicly mine tomorrow.

    I own a set but I just found out they're discontinued and now go for $300+ "new in box". Glad I only paid $80 but for $300 I think they're overpriced. Guess I'll have to jump to the 7506's when the time comes but they're still working great. I've had them for like 5+ years and the vinyl ear pads are still like new (however I am thinking of upgrading them to something else). They're my only set so I use them all the time and see no reason to change them.

      Yeah man! Did you see my new 7506 video? I've always loved both the V6 and 7506. Still relevant in today's audiophile climate for sure. Just solid workhorse headphones with mostly neutral sound. ua-cam.com/video/HmDOAwtYl0U/v-deo.html

    Hi brother
    Im in love with sony wh1000mx3 i like it.
    So Is this sony mdrv6 will ok with me ?
    Thanks

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  5 років тому +2

      Hey man! This headphone will be more crisp sounding and detailed with more bass roll off. The wh1000mx3 is more for casual users, a bit warmer sounding with more bass. the V6 is a studio engineers headphone but I love listening to music with it regardless! Keep me posted. :)

      I don't know if I would necessarily use this headphone for Gaming like that. There is good accuracy but the image isn't very wide so you may have some trouble. That said, you can hear everything going on. I use these primarily to mix down tracks and stuff like that. What's your budget? Maybe I could recommend something better for Gaming. Do you absolutely need a closed back or would you consider an open back. Let me know! @@user-yk2wb2zo8x

    First off the V6's were released in '85 not the 70s. The V6's aren't quite as good as my Sennheiser HD's but the Sony 7506 and more so the ultiamte CD-900st's make the Sennheiser's sound like amateur hour.
