this is an excellent mod to do! Lotta times new pads can change the sound of the cans for the worse, but mdr 7506+the beyerdynamic ear pads = one of the best headsets on the planet in terms of sound quality, comfort, and i think with the valuer pads they look a lot nicer too :) these mdrs have been an audiophile gold standard for 15 years, their big weakness were the pads - but with the beyerdynamic pads they are literally PERFECT.
Great video! That foam is more than just protection for the driver -- the amount and type of foam insert will actually affect the sound. For example, if you have headphones that are too bright - you can add a disc or two (or three) of Bounty paper towel to reduce high frequencies. Felt and shelf liner also have different frequency reduction properties... These are used in acoustic mods to change EQ at the source.
Ive just done the change of earpads, exactly like you did in this video. I like the comfort and im surprised how much noise from the outisde gets blocked now! BUT I must say the Sound totally changed, it feels pretty weird ( Ive just changed the pads 1 hour ago). Im not really into EQ, all i can tell is the sound feels more distand and a less detailled somehow. Ill keep it for now and test it a couple of days to see if the change was worth it
I did this pad change due to my original pads falling apart. I appreciate the change in feel. Holding the original driver covers up to the light (to see through them) and comparing them to the replacement covers, they looked pretty identical in terms of density. I do not believe the new pads muffle anything. However, the response did change some - or more accurately my listening experience changed. There is more bass now. However, the detail of the mids and highs are still available, in my opinion. Your EQ settings may need to change. Personally, I found the stock MDR 7506 lacking in the low frequency range, and I welcome the change. I think they are now better headphones.
Yep, i confirm , there is more bass with the beyer covers, it delete those super hi freq wich annoyed me but keeps detailled sound so i prefere now too
Congrats, while I do agree that the velour ones are more comfy over the original pleather ones (ie, less sweaty with extended listening sessions), you also lost some of the lower bass response, because velour pads don't seal against the sides of your head as well as the pleather ones. Test it yourself. Put one of each kind on each cup, then listen to some music music with extended/lower bass notes/tones. Anyway, I replaced my worn out stock pads, with another pleather set from eBay (only $2 for oval 7506 replacements), after that the lower bass response returned. I'm 100% happy again.
Thanks, have you seen what original pads looks like? I bought one, bit expensive compared to competitors- but the material looks really cheap like wrinkled thin skin, foam is not thick and diameter not 1:1 with the plastic rim where it wraps. 🤔 . I beginning to doubt if really genuine pad.
I did this 5 years ago with my 18 year old pair of 7506's. Pads still looks like new. Remember 750'6s are used as monitors and DJ headphones, they aren't made to listen to or make music with.
i agree with you but if you got some flac áudios for listening its stunning amazing...i got for casual things and play games...its awersome,im loving it
i presume these will work with the sony 7520 monitors, too, given they share the same design/measurement? how does the velour change the sound vs the oem synthetic oem ones by sony...those standard sony ones get hot real fast on my ears.
I see here about the signifiant change of sound. Have any of you noticed that the Beyerdynamic ear pad has holes on the backside of the pad ? They absolutely change the sound besides just the pad covering the driver. get the factory pads from Sony and don't mess with these cans as they have been awesome for so long why mess with them?
can you send me The link for The beyerdynamic pads for 7506? thanks.. i want to know which one you like most of these 2 headset? 7506 or cd900st? i got The 7506 and im trully stunned with The sound quality... i had some problems with his little noises on structure but i am adalting myself and it for my head everytime, when i find The right position it dont make noise, only The cable makes a little noises sometimes but its not disconforting me
Highly not recommended to change with velour pads on 7506, V6 and CD900ST ( unless you want to lose signature detail and mid-range ) use only OEM, aftermarket synthetic "pleathers" or at least hybrid type if you can find any.
+metring073 I absolutely agree here. Ordered myself a pair of these Beyerdynamic velour pads as replacement for my old and worn out mdr-v6 pads... completely disappointed... these otherwise brilliant headphones sound completely stupid with those velour pads... as you have mentioned, the midrange is completely gone. I am now considering buying the "soft skin" version of these pads, the Beyerdynamic edt 250s pads, let's see maybe they do the job...
+Artur Pagoni There is a genuine sheep skin ear pads called Auray that fits V6, 7506, CD900ST. Also there is an offbeat "gel-filled" ear pads called Remote Audio HN-7506!
www.amazon.com/Velour-Earcushions-Technica-Mdr7506-Headphones/dp/B0081SO0RM you mean this one? this one o have on my pulse elite PlayStation and after 3 years i think it dont have The same effect
Good price.. but Aurays are genuine sheepskin and very soft/comfortable. Really worth getting. ( www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/888545-REG/Auray_eps_mdr7506_Genuine_Sheepskin_Leather_Earpads.html )
I think you should cut out the foams of the original Sony's pads and use them than using the Beyer's one. The sound quality changes a lot when you change the foams. I did the same thing above.
Bernard Dermaux Hi there - there re others you can try - from Senheiser 280 Pro and Shure headphones...they have the same shape - and (it seems) same size...but im not shure it is soft as much as the Original Sony.....
MAN, HOW MANY VIDEOS DO I NEED TO COME AND HIGHJACK AND BEG FOR THE REVIEW OF THE Audio Technica ATH-AX5is !!??? Just do that already, nobody cares about this ear pad tutorial
vengadorsky, I just bought a set of pads for my Sony-7506... because this vid showed how easy it is to replace them. Glad I won't have to replace my 7506's.

Alex R not shure if they’re audiophile rated. But they sound great.
Were better than the mdr V7 ?

After a while, what do you think of the earpad swap? Was it worth it? I love my Sony cans but the pads are starting to flake off.
I did this pad change due to my original pads falling apart. I appreciate the change in feel.

Can confirm the better sound upgrade with the pads. I don't entirely get why though.
MDR 7606 are made for flat sound, that's the purpose of it and i prefer buying the same pads.
Congrats, while I do agree that the velour ones are more comfy over the original pleather ones (ie, less sweaty with extended listening sessions), you also lost some of the lower bass response, because velour pads don't seal against the sides of your head as well as the pleather ones. Mike, do you still recommend these earpads for the 7506?
Excellent video. I just got those pads and installed them, thanks to your video! Thanks again for posting.
My inner foam ring disintegrated I bought my headphones in 1987
Are the Beyerdynamic pads much better than alternatives like Brain Wavz?
Hi Mike, tnx for your tips, I've just installed velur pads on my 7506. Sweating out while putting the first one :) Everything fits. Best Regards! F.
Beyerdynamic Ear Pads- which ones please, thank you.
You forgot to mention how the velour pads change the soundstage for the worse. Try sheepskin memfoam. Proper bass response and noise isolation.
Will earpads made for the AudioTechnica ATH-M50x fit on these?
I did this mod, the sound was ruined, I took them off, I may try again using the original foam pieces that will need to be cut off the original pads.
I have a set of MDR 7504 They seem smaller and (Mini) Is the installation the same, can I get replacement pads?
I did this, thanks to this video. it works quite well. Actually has better isolation than it had before
awesome! Thanks for watching.

Many musicians use both these, Pink Floyd, Kiss and Foo Fighters to name a few.
Good Guy Mike, always looking out for his subscribers first. :)
That cd900-st looks amazing!!! I wish it was a semi open :(
I used oneodio A70 replacement pads, Works great and you can get them on amazon $14.00
i presume these will work with the sony 7520 monitors, too, given they share the same design/measurement?

ROFL.... pull the foam off the back of the pads that came with your MDRs youll see the same holes. if those holes were there youd sweat a lot more.
can you send me The link for The beyerdynamic pads for 7506? thanks.. i want to know which one you like most of these 2 headset? 7506 or cd900st? i got The 7506 and im trully stunned with The sound quality... i had some problems with his little noises on structure but i am adalting myself and it for my head everytime, when i find The right position it dont make noise, only The cable makes a little noises sometimes but its not disconforting me
I did this mod and the sound quality and clarity isn't as good anymore.
Comfort is top notch though.
agreed!
Change out your foam pads. That's the reason.
Highly not recommended to change with velour pads on 7506, V6 and CD900ST ( unless you want to lose signature detail and mid-range ) use only OEM, aftermarket synthetic "pleathers" or at least hybrid type if you can find any.

+metring073 well... thanks mate, but you should've given me one option only, cause now i want to try them both ))

Hello buddy ive got Sony MDR - XB500 XTRA BASS does this will work for it ?
i just changed the earpads and they sound a little bit diferent now D:
Do you have a link for genuine cd900st pads?
Do you have a link to the Beyerdynamic earpads?
Velour:
Vah-loor'
Nice vid - thanks!
Yeah but are they made in japan?
3:24 how to find the g-spot
Great Video!, Those Sony Mdr-cd900st are in my wish list!
Have you ever bought the sheepskin genuine leather pads
I think I have those somewhere in the house. Haven't installed them yet.
The Sony earpads have foam built in so you'll need some kind of foam to keep it sounding the same.
I think you should cut out the foams of the original Sony's pads and use them than using the Beyer's one. The sound quality changes a lot when you change the foams.
I did the same thing above.
***** I think the Beyer pads change the sound too much. I went back to OEM Sony pads.
***** so does the holes on the backside of the ear ring, Cmon you should know this.
HOW DOES IT FEEL, THOUGH?
i like the softer pads as i sweat in other type.
Nice biodynamic airpads. :-)
The audio tecnica m50x pads also fits ! theyre better the original sony....try out !
Absolutely ! You get more clean bass wich is good. Thx for the advice !!!
Bernard Dermaux

how to replace ear pad for sony headphone mdr xb450
2:01
thanks, this is really helpful
Thanks!
My Pair just got stolen ;(
Audio46 Headphones - Headphone Superstore whaaa?
Do the replacement pads have a model number? Or a link to where to buy them in the UK
I live in the UK and just got mine from here www.thomann.de/gb/beyerdynamic_dt_250_ohrpolster.htm
i ones i got were the "Beyerdynamic EDT250V Headphone Ear Pads Black" from amazon. Looks to be the ones he's using as well
Ben Auld thanks for the link
mine are on their way
cloth pads soak up sweat.
also these pads are too shallow
What's an air pad he keeps referring too?
Ear pads... ;)
Nice.
Instead of changing the pads just buy the DT250 Beyer's, much better headphone.
The V6 is not identical to the 7506, they sound totally different. V6 is more dynamic, 7506 has deeper sub-bass.
The part numbers are the same in both models except for the cable and plug.
v nice!
